Tendinitis - Feel like cutting off my right ankle off
Well things are going well so far. Been extremely motivated, but one thing has stalled me: tendinitis. I’ve been reading around the forums about ways to treat this condition. Unfortunately, the doctor, says the same thing I’ve been reading on the forums, which is the healing process is long. Dam…. I use to walk, at first, on the treadmill. I then attempted to increase the level (what a stupid move on my part). I attempted to jog and sprint in intervals on the tread, and then tendinitis occurred the next day. Ever since (about 3 weeks ago) it has improved, but the pain is still there, and I STILL can’t get on tread. I currently am using a recumbent bike for my cardio. It’s working, but I would like to get back on the tread. I guess this is more of a diary posting. Lol. I’m hoping others can give their tips of improving the healing process of tendinitis. God bless.

Do you mean Achilles tendinitis? If so, I’ve got it too, and I strongly recommend taking your time and being cautious. I tried to run through it all last spring and summer, and it finally got so bad in August I had to shut down running altogether for months. If you are not careful you can get a chronic injury that’s very hard to make go away. Try to do cardio that doesn’t stress the tendon and gradually ramp up stretching with some exercise to make the muscles stronger. You might consider physical therapy. I’ve had it for the last two and a half months and it’s helped.

Here is what I’ev experienced. I don’t have tedonitis, but rather tendonosis. They are not the same. Mine is tricep tendonosis. What I found that works and seems to be all the rage is concentric part of the muscle’s movement. On this it would be the same as walking down stairs. Maybe there are some exercises you could do this with? On my tri it’s like on db bp, not going up but coming down that I have to focus on. The best thing that I found for the immflamation is ultra-sound therapy. Plan on about 3x a week. Also do a search for tendonosis here bodybuilding.com I’ve had mine for about 6 months and I still am not over all of it. I’d say about 90% Also consider using some sort of instrument to massage the tendon, do it deep, do it hard. Yes, it hurts. but in a couple of days it’ll be better. On the massage you need something like a toy top (yep the things that spin) so you can do the deep tissue massage on the tendon. Some people say take a month’s break…That helped mine, but it didn’t heal it. It seems that the same excercise that hurt the tendon also helps it albeit you must be careful and start slow.
Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help!!
Good Luck

Thanks for the replies. Indeed, I was also warned to find other activities that place less strain/stress on my tendon. Sorry I forgot to mention, yes, it’s the Achilles tendon. I’m going to consider the swimming that you suggested. Fortunately, the military post here has an indoor pool. Never thought about swimming for cardio. Lol. Hmm interesting on the massage suggestion. Heheh I’ll try and buy a spin top around here, and try that method. I am willing to try anything that decreases the pain. I understand the healing part is a long process, it’s the pain that I’m worried about. I don’t want to be fully stalled from exercising (heck I’m already motivated), but I’m willing to try alternatives that will help benefit my exercise needs AND healing of my tendon. I’ll talk with my doctor a bit more on possible physical therapy. Thank you tdinbw and Pheidippides for your suggestions and sharing your experiences. Are there maybe any foods or supplements that you could maybe suggest to help the process with healing or the pain? So far I’ve read glucosamine on the forums. I’ll ask the doctor in the meantime, but I’d like to know from people that actually had the same or similar medical conditions. Thanks again. God bless.
EDIT: I meant glucosamine not glutamine. Sorry for typo. Lol.
