It will be a while before I start discussing my training; I have to get my head turned around to figure out why I’m going to start training, again. Because, the original reason was to get big; it was all centered on me, how I perceived myself and how I wanted others to see me. In a sense, my self-worth was going to revolve around how big my muscles were.
And, since bodybuilding was physical; and since I was in my late teens/early 20’s; all I thought about was sex. The more attractive (the bigger the muscles) I was, the easier it was going to be for me to get laid. And, I was right.
Well, here I am, years later. My perspective is a little different. I need another reason to lift. Or, I need more reasons to lift. It took a while, but I was an elite athlete during my 40’s; I was a jock in my 30’s. All my weight training served whatever sport I was playing/involved in. Now, I only have time for one physical activity and I’m drawn to lifting &/or "Body Building Lite".
Isn’t "Body Building" pure vanity? It’s ultimate goal physically beautiful body. Is it a sport? Who decides when you reach that goal? I love freestyle and collegiate wrestling; just love it. That’s about as basic one could get in competitive sports. No equipment, nothing to give you an added advantage against your opponent; all one uses is one’s brain and body to compete.
The attraction for getting back to the gym is #1 I love it; #2 its hard to break the equipment; #3 I can do it when I want; #4 you have to be persistant and devoted to the effort before you see results; #5 you know you’re alive after a good workout; #6 at a good gym, its a social activity; #7 I use the gym’s soap, water and towels, so when I’m done, I’m done for the day and ready for dinner.
