What a crazy year in the NFL! At the beginning of the season or even the playoffs there were not very many people that would have guessed it would be the Steelers and the Cards at the Bowl. Not to say the Steelers haven’t looked great this year coming out on top of the AFC North with a 12-4 record but the Cards definitely surprised some people making it to the Super Bowl. Well the count down is on and only 10 days till the Big Game.
Even if your not a looking forward to watching the Steelers and Cards don’t miss the Lingerie Bowl for halftime.
Lets see if the Cards can pull it off, not many people thought the Giants could do it last year.

Many people might be excited for the Super Bowl but the Real reason for everyone to watch is the Lingerie Bowl. It is going to be the 6th Lingerie Bowl and who isn’t going to want to watch that.
There are 11 days and just over 12 hours till the action begins. So those of you who can cheat on your healthy diet for a day get ready to grab a beer, some nachos, get your friends together where ever there is a Big Screen and get ready to wtch the Ladies Rumble at Halftime.
For more information check out the official Lingerie Bowl Website.

Look. I know Ladanian Tomlinson is getting kinda old (in running back years) but, really, are the Chargers gonna trade him in the offseason? He hasn’t been right the last 2 years. You have to give him a chance to be the LT of old. It’s a business, of course, but for heaven’s sake this is the face of your franchise, San Diego. Whatever happened to the years where a player would play his whole career with the same team? I’m disappointed along with LT. It’s ridiculous that the team doesn’t have the same loyalty that LT seems to have. He IS San Diego football! Favre as a Jet. Montana as a Chief. Emmitt as a Cardinal. Seau as a Patriot. PLEASE NOT LT IN ANYTHING BUT A BOLTS UNI!

Check out this halftime BB.com/BodySpace interview with Crystal Matthews for the Bodybuilding.com sponsorship of seven college football bowl games through the Nevada sports network. This package included game broadcasts in major US metropolitan areas, XM and Sirius satellite radio, and Armed Forces radio with a combined estimated reach of over 50 million listeners.
You can listen to the halftime interview here: BodySpace News Blog
In addition to Crystal’s halftime interview at the 2009 Humanitarian Bowl (Maryland versus Nevada game), the package included several 30 second BB.com spots and multiple broadcast sponsorship tags. Awesome!

The Giants just couldn’t do it this weekend losing to the Eagles 23 - 11, in fact since Plaxico shot himself in the thigh and got suspended for the season they have lost 4 out of the last 5 games.
Before he was suspended in December the Giants were 11 - 1 and well on their way to another possible Super Bowl. Now they ended the season 12 - 5.
He might not be the brightest guy but he is definitely a great receiver and the Giants needed him to pull off a win over the Eagles to say the least, he has 5 receiving TD’s against the Eagles in his career and a another 1 or 2 would have most likely given the Giants a win against the Eagles.
But then again who shoots himself in the thigh, You get what you ask for in this life and he was asking to be suspended!

James Harrison, LB, Pittsburgh Steelers totaled 16 sacks during the season, including three in Week 1 in the Steelers’ 38-17 win over the Houston Texans. In Week 11, Harrison had a sack, forced a fumble and recorded a safety in one play. Harrison made four tackles and returned an interception 33 yards in the Steelers’ 11-10 win over the San Diego Chargers. He led the Steelers’ defensive effort with nine tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles, both recovered by Pittsburgh, in the Steelers’ 33-10 win over the New England Patriots in Week 13.
Albert Haynesworth, DT, Tennessee Titans finished the season with a career-high 8.5 sacks. His seven quarterback pressures contributed to the Titans’ overall defensive effort. On Sept. 7, Haynesworth sealed the Titans’ 17-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars with his 9-yard sack of David Garrard on the final play of the game. In the Titans’ 30-17 win over the Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 28, Haynesworth recorded two sacks, six tackles and one pass defensed to propel the defensive effort.
Joey Porter, LB, Miami Dolphins led the AFC with 17.5 sacks for a total of 96 yards in losses, the highest single-season sack total by a Dolphins linebacker. Porter contributed 47 tackles and four forced fumbles to the defensive effort. Porter notched four multiple-sack games this season, and he now has 17 multiple-sack games in his career. In the Dolphins’ 38-13 win in Week 3 over the New England Patriots, Porter sacked QB Matt Cassel four times. Porter has the most sacks among linebackers since becoming a full-time starter in 2000 (81), and ranks fourth overall in sacks over those nine years (2000-2008).
Ed Reed, S, Baltimore Ravens had nine interceptions in 2008, including two returned for touchdowns. Reed set an NFL record with his 108-yard interception return for a touchdown in the Ravens’ 36-7 win over the Philadelphia Eagles on Nov. 23. Reed’s 264 interception return yards ranked second in the NFL. Reed recorded a staggering four multiple-INT games this season, and now has eight two-pick games for his career. The Ravens have never lost when Reed posts two INTs in a game. In addition to his two INTs for TDs, he had a 22-yard fumble recovery for a TD in Week 14 against Washington that spurred the Ravens’ 24-10 win.
DeMarcus Ware, LB, Dallas Cowboys established himself as one of the top pass-rushers in the league, collecting a league-best 53.5 sacks since 2005. With his 20 sacks in 2008, Ware became the first Cowboys defender to reach 20 in a season since sacks became an official statistic in 1982. Ware’s 2008 sack total also ties Derrick Thomas for the second most sacks in a season by a linebacker in league history. With at least one sack in each of the last three games of the 2007 season and the first seven games of the 2008 season, Ware tied Simon Fletcher for the league record of consecutive games with at least one sack (10). He tied his career-high with three sacks in a game three times this season. Ware added a career-high 110 tackles — his first 100-tackle season — to the Cowboys’ defensive effort. Ware’s six forced fumbles this season are the most in team history since 1984, the furthest back the stat can be researched.

Looks like Eric Mangini is gonna be coaching the Browns. After being let go by the Jets, Mangini reached an agreement with the Browns. This will be the Browns 4th coach in nine years, looks like they will have Mangini for 4 years at the Browns! Could some of it be Favre’s fault, the Jets started the season off with an 8-3 record but as Favre faded down the stretch they ended season 9-7.

I was born in San Diego’s Balboa Naval Hospital so naturally, I’m a big CHARGERS fan. With that being said, I almost gave up hope at 4-8. But, as luck would have it, the team was able to "barely" get past the Denver Broncos and make it to the playoffs. A few people around here (joe g, anne) let me know that by no means would the Chargers beat the Peyton-led Colts in the first round. I know that the Colts/Chargers series has always been a close one and that the second season is the only one that counted. Believe me, I was scared that Peyton had the ball in the 4th quarter. He’s beaten the Bolts plenty of times because they allowed him too much time at the end of games. Fortunately, Overtime in the NFL is a 50/50 shot and San Diego got the ball first. So, what do I think the chances are of a victory over the Steelers this Sunday. I’M CALLING IT NOW…20-16 BOLTS. No matter what the score is, it’s going to be a phenomenal game. You can bet on that!

Not many sports require one to run backwards as fast as most run forward, turn on a dime, react blindly, react powerfully, and have a short memory about getting beat, and an iron memory when it comes to game preparation and film study. The defensive back position, at any level of football, requires a vast array of skills and an advanced level of athleticism in order to dominate the opposition.
As we unfold this highly detailed plan, you will see that training must address all the needs of the DB. Explosive strength, flexibility, body awareness, and incredible catch up speed are just a few abilities we have to master. We believe that effective coordination training features diversity, variability, and a large number of movements. I also believe in challenging the players with exercises that are difficult yet appropriate for their current level of skill development, and that it is essential to reshape and vary the exercises after adaptation has occurred.
Building the foundation of this complex position takes time and patience. Throw in a tremendous work effort and positive attitude and you are well on your way to bering able to mirror some of the best wide receivers in the game. Starting off one has to dive into the world of science. Bio-motor ability means the following: Motor = Movement and bio = the tale of the biological significance of these abilities.
Bio-motor Abilities
* Strength
* Endurance
* Speed
* Coordination (least practiced)
* Flexibility
Sub-components
* Muscular endurance
* Speed endurance
* Agility
* Mobility
* Power
* Max Strength
* Anaerobic endurance/aerobic endurance
* Maximum speed
* Range of motion
The problem with most programs is they lack the wheel of development that makes a complete player. Our assault will start with the end in mind. As many football coaches do, I watch many hours of film in a week. As I review film on my DB’s, I can see the tremendous physical burden placed on them in one series alone. As I viewed my cut ups, one series unfolded like this. First and ten-defensive run support on an outside zone play.
My defensive back had to collide with the fullback to turn the runner inside (strength and power). Second and one, deep pass down the sideline to the fastest wide out on the team (speed and speed endurance). Third and one-break on a quick three-step slant and tackle the receiver with no support because we had nine in the box (explosion, strength, reactive ability, grip strength). As you can see, the athletic ability required is ridiculous! As we dive into the training of the defensive back, we have to make sure we address all the needs of the athlete.
Flexibility And Range Of Motion
There are some coaches out there who preach that squatting below parallel is of little relevance to a football player. Watch a game on Sunday, and you will quickly have a change of heart. A defensive back is twisted and torque into positions some would call yoga-like as he defends the whole field of play. Great players like Lester Hayes, Deion Sanders, and Charles Woodson all have incredible amounts of hip mobility. Watching Lester Hayes line up in his low press coverage stance immediately shows us that he has to call on hip flexibility that would make some people insanely jealous. The model has a built-in hip flexibility arsenal that is foolproof.
Exercises To Improve Your Range Of Motion
* Dynamic Hurdles: Ducking under and stepping over hurdles of various heights at different speeds and levels.
* Agility Drills: By performing agility ladder exercises and cone drills our defensive backs will be able to maneuver his hips into positions that are normally called on in a game. Looking closely at the exercises picked, you will see a huge sport-specific concept behind the foot patterns.
* Olympic Lifts: Their hybrid motions through a full range of motion.
* Specific Stretches: Static and dynamic.
