Argh! Is there any day that ISN’T a cheat day in my house??

Monday, May 26th, 2008

Yes, I cheated BADLY yesterday. It was like every day that I hadn’t ate any crap suddenly came flooding back at me and for some reason I had the feeling that I was being cheated by not being able to cheat so I CHEATED. Not cheated, but CHEATED. Does that bother me? Yeah, just a bit. I thought that I was kind of over WANTING the crappy foods that I know aren’t good for me, that I would be able to at least stave off any temptation long enough to suck down a protein shake or meal replacement. But, much to my annoyance, I’m not over the cravings for hot dogs and ice cream and soda and pretzels and candy.

That’s why I drove 180 miles to get a treadmill. HA HA! Take that, Cheat Monster! I was able to put in 30 minutes of cardio last night after my binge, and I am currently working on adding another 30 minutes as soon as I add this blog. And an intense cardio session it will be, for the binge was a big one.

But on to a new day and a new way of eating (again)! I shall vanquish the Cheat Monster for at least 24 hours, then go from there! There will be corpses of Cheat Monsters littering my home as I demolish one every 24 hours until this contest is over! And then it will probably be time for a little clean up, you know, a little bag and tag, and then on with the destruction!

My goal of being a lean, mean cut machine for the Bill Grant contest WILL  be realized, no matter how many monsters I shall have to squash with my big, meaty fists during the midnight snack runs!

Hoo-raah!!

8-24-08 Another morning at the gym

Saturday, May 24th, 2008

I had a great workout this morning.  I had tons of energy and was in a rush because of the gym hours in the morning and my work schedule on Saturday.    I stuck to the program my BodySpace.  The exception was the major increase on weight being used.  I guess I have just been in a "routine" when it comes to the weight and have not added.  Another thing I added is to completely focus on the muscles being worked in each exercise and MAN does that make a difference.  Tomorrow I will be doing upperbody and will be bringing my 14 year old son with me.  We have an on-going basketball challenge on Sundays.  I am pretty sure he whipped me lastweek so I am looking for revenge!  Have a Great weekend everyone!

5-23-08 Cardio and Abs plus a day of relaxation

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

Today is kindof a relax day from the rest of the week.  I did start the day with 30 minutes of cardio on the Eliptical machine and burned some calories there.  I went on to workout  abs. After that I headed home slept for an additional 30 minutes.  I was awakened by my youngest son, who is two, saying, "Dad, Oatmeal please".  He likes to get his carbs in early you see (my wife and I have trained him well).  He is such a cute kid!

Here he is on the treadmill:

Never to young to workout!

The rest of the day we plan on just relaxing and then going back to the gym tonight with all 4 kids for what is know as "Movie Night".  On every Friday night our gym lets the kids watch a movie that they project the wall at the pool. I do not think anyone watches the movie but the kids have tons of fun on their rafts splashing around being kids.

I may or may not do additional cardio this evening.  Well I am off to relaxing!

What husbands should love about working out with their wives and then some!

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

After a great workout this morning and fun day at home with the family, my wife, kids and I headed off to the gym.  Since I worked out this morning I wanted to help Michele with her "leg day".  She did an awesome job considering I know I embarrassed/annoyed her on more than one occasion.

You know what I’m talkin’ about…when you’re in a playful mood and you know you’re not going to have to concentrate. Doing things like talking to her while in the middle of a set, secretly adding weight to the machine, flexing in the mirror when EVERYONE was looking, talking about people loudly while they were standing right next to us, ect… You know, the usual stuff that seems to embarrass women for who knows WHAT reason.

Who knows why they're embarrassed by that stuff.

I got to thinking about those things that annoy the bejeebers outta me while working out and thought I would list the TOP 5 pet peeves I have.  I am going to exclude the one my wife does (clanking the weights) because we already covered that. I’ve already counselled her on NOT DOING IT AGAIN while I am in the gym with her and I trust that she will OBEY my orders. All the above do not count either because I said so.

YOU WILL OBEY MY ORDERS, GRUNT!

So, here are the top 5 I trust you WILL NOT do when visiting my gym…at least not while I’m there so I don’t have to go sargent on your buttocks! (see above cause that’s what I look like when I have to):

5. Talking/texting  on cellphone while doing cardio.

4. Talking on cellphone or texting while using a machine.

3. Making any weight machine or bench a personal gym couch and/or end table.

2. Naked dude talking to you in the locker room. (DUDE!!!)

1. Being THAT GUY! (every gym has at least one) (but it definately is NOT me) (just in case you were wondering).

Yeah, THAT GUY! You know who you are!

8-22-08 Updated Pic for week 14 0f 16.. Plus Killer Workout DUDES!!

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

I just wanted to share that I had one of my most intense training sessions today.  I was pumped and motivated. It rubbed off on the guys in the gym that were training around me .  Since I have been going the the gym I have been keeping to myself, only talking to a few of the guys now and then.  Today was different.. a few of the "regulars" came up to me and told me that I am their inspiration.  I thought they were just messing around but upon further conversation they were serious.  It really made my day!

We all began to talk and encourage eachother as we continued our workouts.  EVERYONE of us put forth a more intense workout and the energy level was INSANE!  It  made me think of what it must have been when all the Legends where training together in Venice( the Pumping Iron Days).

I do not have much more to say except I hope that this energy level in the morning continues over the next couple of weeks.  Each of us that have our own goals and are well on our way to accomplishing them. It was upper body day and an KILLER workout!

Anyone know who Bill Grant is?

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

This morning was different than my “normal” routine.  Today was strictly a cardio day and I did it from home.  It was really nice because I was able to get an extra hours sleep from the regular schedule I have been keeping.  I worked out on the treadmill for 20 minutes sticking to the HIIT program as layed out by Bill Phillips (Former CEO of EAS). I am going to add an additional 20 minutes of cardio each evening from home to my current workout up until the 6th. I emailed Bill Grant (Mr. America/Mr World and Muscle Beach Hall of Fame) about changing the program that he had suggested, which I have been following, to this:

Day 1: Back and Chest
Day 2: Legs
Day 3: Shoulders/Arms/Forearms
Day 4: Off
            Day 5: Repeat

Bill  liked the breakup of the routine with the suggestion that I take 2 days of rest instead of just the one for maximum recovery OR  take every other day off.  I hold what he says in VERY high esteem so I am going to take him up on the advice of lifting every other day.

But for now, I’m only going to be changing my diet (to less cheating basically) until the final weigh in for this “Biggest Loser” contest.

Tomorrow I’ll be doing lower body, basically sticking with what I’ve been doing. I’ll be updating my pics in the near future, too. Maybe I’ll model my new treadmill…if you’re lucky.

5-19-08 Upperbody Abs and Cardio OH MY….

Monday, May 19th, 2008

This morning’s workout was another good one as I pushed myself to a new level. I worked Upperbody and  finished with HIIT cardio for 20 minutes.   I am pretty sure that I am going to add additional cardio to my routine over the next couple of weeks with the treadmill we now have.

Everyone in the family LOVES the new treadmill( I can’t get on the darn thing between my wife and 4 kids I have not shot!)  I am glad to see all the excitement around it and hope that it becomes a good friend of the family over the next couple years.

Welp, I do not have much more to share this evening I am exhausted and about to go relax, watch a movie and rest up for tomorrow mornings EXTREME CARDIO day. ( Oh yeah I said EXTREME!!!!)  Read my blog tomorrow to find out what in the world "EXTREME CARDIO" is.  … to be continued……………………………..

5-18-08 New Member to Our Family!! Plus Great Leg workout!

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

I would have to describe today in one word: AWESOME!

First, I got to SLEEP IN. I didn’t have to go to the gym until 7:45 this morning, which is about three hours later then when I normally go in. Don’t judge me! The gym doesn’t open until 8:00 A.M. on Sunday, so I have a really good excuse as to my extra sleep.

Secondly, my leg work-out R-O-C-K-E-D. I do what I normally do (see previous blog entry), but I blew my leg muscles until I thought they were going to pop right off of the tendon. Yeah, ouch.

Third, I came home to my beautiful wife, my wonderfully transformed house and my hyper-glorious kids and had breakfast with them.

Fourth, I got a FREE TREADMILL! Yeah, I had to drive 180 miles to get it, ride in a van with three kids and a pouty wife (she was kinda pissed about the drive and the gas) but believe me, it was worth it! It’s a two year old HealthTrainer by Keys Fitness. It rocks. It’s for free. Can’t beat free with a stick!

Now, I’m off to do cardio…IN MY LIVING ROOM! Booooo-ya!
