Loosing Footing!

Ok… so I last competed on April 19th and it has been about 6 weeks into the "off season" and it SUCKS!  I am really struggling.  I lost my trainer/nutritionist (its his competitive season) until July and I thought I would be able to handle it as I have WEEKS of meal plans to pull from (from precontest training) and have all my notes from my previous training sessions.  BUT… it is obvious that I am no good without help!  I lack motivation to push through the tough points in training and my discipline in eating clean has been void or at best half assed.

My weight has climbed to an embarrassing 145 from 128 and I feel exhausted constantly and just frankly unfit.  I struggle with needing to pull it together for my clients but all I want to do is either hide from society or focus solely on "fixing" my situation … which leads to frustration because then I am only slapped with the reality that I CAN NOT DO THIS ALONE!

Since my trainer/nutritionist is my husband it is a sore subject if I broach the idea of hiring someone to help me get through this time while he competes - so I feel stuck and he thinks I am selfish.

Has anyone else gone through this?  I don"t compete again until Nov but at this rate I will be lucky if I step on stage next year!  I am so bummed.

Wondering if finding a training partner would help?

Most days, I have to manufacture some type of motivation to get into the gym. I can usually trick myself into looking forward to a lift if I purchase something new for the gym (new bar attachment, new gloves, new anything!); try a new exercise or variation on an old one; try a new superset; new rest pattern; anything! I don’t compete, so can’t completely relate to your particular stress. I CAN relate to the gym blah, however. Best of luck!

Thanks so much! Just knowing that anyone else gets it helps!

I understand where you’re coming from. I see a trainer 3 times a week and he really motivates me. After I finish a session with him I write out what I exercises I did so I have a record, & can refer back to it if I’m ever on my own. But for some reason, when he’s away I never think to go back & grab session to work from. I feel so lost when he’s not around. I find it ironic, bceause working out gives me confidence to do stuff on my own but I need him. Have you considered talking to your husband about how you feel? Good luck & stay strong. You can do it.

Hi Sondra, I know what you mean about this! I have only done one comp though and afterwards was able to maintain my drop in weight but found it slowly creep up again, I got quite depressed and didn’t want to go out and train other people because I didn’t look or feel as good. To anyone else I guess I look fit and toned but to me I looked and felt horrid! When we know how we looked before its hard to stay positive about the change and creep up of fat!!! As my hubby always says I have to be objective about things because they are not so black and white. I’m learning to accept it a little bit more. He isn’t into training like your husband so he only watches by the sidelines but, the fact that your husband is so close might be why you need someone who is not emotionally attached - ultimately your happiness and satisfaction is paramount, do what works for you :)
