Second 5K Knoxville Expo

June 19, 2009

Ran in my second 5k run back on May 23. I improved my time by 30 seconds over the first one 23.29. I found the race to be difficult this time. Something wasn’t right about my body that morning.  I felt tired before I even started. I’m still not sure what caused that feeling. But I made it and finished 52 out of 437. The training for these races is why I do them. I’m a goal driven guy and it helps me stay focused.

Success at Last!

April 28, 2009

I finally did it. I ran three miles on the treadmill under 20 minutes. I have been working on this goal over the past few months. Last week I tried it and came up a little short. So, this week I did the math on it and determined that I had to run at 9 mph for 12 laps. I turned the treadmill up to 12 for the last 1/2 lap. Time was 19:58 :) Next goal will be to run 5K under 20:00 minutes. I’m running in the Knoxville EXPO on May 23. Wish me luck!

First 5K

March 31, 2009

Well I did it!

But, first I must say that I don’t consider myself a runner type guy. I run because I want to be as fit as possible and I love the challenge of trying something new. I mainly run on the treadmill two or three times a week usually three miles at a time. I started running three miles about a year ago because it took about 25 to 30 minutes. I wanted to keep my heart rate up for about that time. I wasn’t thinking about thats how long a 5k race was.

I found the race to be harder than I was expecting because of the hills and the weather. It was very cold and windy. The cold weather was hurting my lungs a great deal. Plus hills and its harder to run without the treadmill helping pace yourself.

However, I’m happy with the results of my first 5K. There was 1428 people in the race and I finished 66 overall and for my age (46) group I finished third. My time was 23.54. I was hoping to run it between 20.00 - 21.00 maybe next time.

Overall I enjoyed the race and plan to try another one soon.

Watch out Boston Marathon!

New Track Record!

December 22, 2008

I have been working on running three miles on the treadmill. I have been running 2 or 3 times per week. I like the time it takes to run three miles it keeps my heart rate high for over 20 minutes.  First time I did it months ago I ran it in about 30 minutes. I have slowly reduced my time. Over the past month or so I have been running it in about 23 to 24 minutes. I started a little completion with couple guys (younger guys) in gym and Wow! times have been falling. I ran my best time this morning 12-22-08, which was 20:50. Beating the current reocrd of 21:10 and beating my record of 22:18. Very excited about the new record :) However, was about dead when finished. I’m sure one of the other guys will beat it soon. However, I’m king for the day.

First Blog Ever!

September 4, 2008

This is my first blog. It comes on the eve of my forty sixth birthday. I’m happy to say that I’m in the best shape of my life.  Well except for when I played college football 28 years ago. I feel like I’m 20 something now and loving it.  Over the past year I have changed from just lifting weights to doing the entire fitness package. Cardio, weight training and most importantly diet. The diet thing I owe to my wife. She has taught the importance of clean eating. Wow! What a difference it has made. We both have been influenced by Body for Life and Eating Clean by Tosca Reno. I’m excited about what the future holds for my fitness because I still have a long way to go and a lot more goals to meet. Stay Fit and Stay Young.
