My personal best - squats

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Ok, not that my legs need a ton of work, but today I squatted 205 for 6 reps!!!  Yippee!!!!  My best EVER!!!  I have a herniated disk in my low back (L5S1), so I’ve always been extra cautious when I squat and therefore I don’t think I push myself as hard with this particular exercise.  But…look out…I’m on a roll baby!!!

Yea! :)

The Arnold countdown…

Friday, January 18th, 2008

Well I’m officially 6 weeks out until the Arnold classic and I CAN’T WAIT!!!  :)   I’m working at the Beast sports booth this year and I am so excited to be apart of the Expo with such a terrific company.  I must say it’s been tough dieting knowing I’m not doing a show for a while, but then again I’m working at the freakin’ Arnold Classic!!!  Oh yea…I mentioned that already. :)   If you live in Columbus like I do you totally understand what a big deal this event is….it’s like waiting for Christmas…but better!!!

Happy Friday!

All I want for Christmas…

Sunday, December 23rd, 2007

Being a Columbus, Ohio native I have dreamed of working a booth at the Arnold Classic, an event I attend every year, religiously.  I realize working my way up in the ranks of the NPC, especially this past year with the National shows I did, will help get my name and face out there, but I also needed to have patience.  I competed in the Arnold amateur last year and that was monumental for me, but yet it wasn’t the same as being apart of all the excitement the Expo has to bring.   Marketing myself with my own website and this wonderful tool Bodyspace has finally paid off.   All I want for Christmas is to work a booth at the Arnold and I’m happy to say I will be working at the Beast Sports Supplement Booth!!!  I’M SO EXCITED!!!  Please stop by and say hello if you’re in town for this awesome Sports Festival weekend.  I believe this year is the 25th anniversary….how cool is that?  I’m all smiles!

Happy holidays!

My site is done…my site is done!! YIPPEE!

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

I busted my a** to get my own website published and it’s finally done!  Yea!!!!!!!!!!!!  I’m in my "off season" right now and knew if it didn’t happen during this time, it may be another year.  I wanted to design it myself so I could control it and more importantly, really express who I am.  I hope this helps get my name out there…I love the sport and being in front of the camera and I believe my site reflects this.  I really want to work a booth at the Arnold this year, so if anyone’s looking…so am I!  :)   If you have time, please stop by and check it out:  www.hollyfitness.com

I’m sooo tired….It’s 1:00am

Good night,

A week goes fast…

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Well, it’s been a week since I competed in the North American Championships and I was back in the gym 4 days after my show.  I just can’t keep away.  I feel I have much work to do and I’m ready to get the ball rolling!!  Not to mention I’ve been very "free" with my diet and that starts to go to my head, so I train to compensate.  I actually miss egg whites and oatmeal!!  I think when you eat clean for so long and you eat some "junk" it just doesn’t taste as good as I remember…well, except the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, that tasted GREAT!  For the past year I have worked hard on building my shoulders and they have come a long way, but I really feel I need more work on my back.  Specifically width.  I have such a hard time feeling my lats for some reason.  I did get some really great advice on the forum and I’m going to try some different techniques, and so I’m excited about that.  We’ll see how it goes.  My next show will be Jr. Nationals in June of 2008.  I’ve got sooo much time to play!  I’m sure I’ll be chompin’ at the bit to get back on stage, I’ve never had this long of a break, but it will be good for my physique…so we’ll see what happens.

Cheers,

H

This is the part I like…

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

My show is in 5 days and I’ve started implementing some nice, clean, complex carbs back into my diet consistantly since yesterday and I LOVE IT!  I do not do a super compensation when I start carb loading, my body doesn’t respond.  I take a good 6-7 days and start to slowly bring carbs back in and start healing.  I was so used to that flat, depleted look…it’s nice to see a little fullness coming back!  Yee haw!!  It’s amazing what a little carbs can do for your mental outlook!  I feel good for this show.  I’m about 2-3lbs. leaner than I was at Nationals and that was my goal, so we’ll see how it fairs out.  I’ve done the best I can do, so now I will sit back and enjoy the ride.

Blah…

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

I am typically always happy and upbeat but I sure feel like I’ve been run over by a truck this morning.  I’m 9 days out from my show and after doing a triple yesterday I can’t get rid of my headache, my back is so sore from all the cardio and I feel….well…numb.  I hate this part.  I feel detached from everything.  I will start implementing carbs and taking my workouts down a notch this weekend, so that in itself is encouraging.  I just gotta get through today.  How depressing is this blog????  Nothin’ to it but to do it-I gotta keep perspective.

Last week to kick it

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

Ok.  I’m two weeks out and this is my last week to kick it and then it’s all about eating and healing.  I feel this last phase of dieting coming to a close and I have so many mixed feelings.  Am I starting to look to "stringy"?  My physique (meso/ecto) can go that way  easily, as it did at the Arnold this year, and I wasn’t happy with that look.  I’m sure it’s because I’m so depleted and run down, but that doesn’t stop my brain from constantly thinking "is this what the judges are looking for?"  Training and cardio both hurt at this point.  My muscles are so sore and just can’t seem to heal, it’s like a constant feeling of "lactic acid" when I lift.  But, I know it’s coming to an end and I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.  So now I’m off for another session of cardio.  Happy Sunday.

;)

Triple cardio session

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Today was a low carb triple cardio session.  45 min. at 5:30am, 30 min. at noon and I just did my last 45 min. session.  Good lord…my legs are numb.  I cycle carbs, so tomorrow I get some sweet potatoes and brown rice…I can’t wait!!! Bring it!
