We just finished up a few days of practicing for an operational readiness inspection, it’s where they test us and see if we are ready and now how to "Fly Fight and Win". You know playing war. With most inspection it really doesn’t have anything to do with fighting a real war, just some made up one that no one will ever fight. Anyways, we always do some in house exercises like counter sniper, IEDs’, patrols to work in the real type of things that we do so we can make sure we stay sharp and ready for the real stuff.
All in all it went well, the weather was great for July, only in the 70’s which made wearing the chemical gear and gas masks, it could have been a lot worse. We made it thru the crap the whole base wanted us to do, Alarm Conditions and MOPP levels. Put the gas mask on, take it off, put it on, take it off.
We kicked some ass on the enemy, and won sent them running and crying for their mommies or whoever they go cry to. Gave some their wish and let them be martyrs……the down side is no time for the workouts or cardio, but probably managed something running around all the time. Does anyone know how many calories are in an MRE?

The kids are finally out of school and haven’t even started driving anyone crazy yet, I’m sure it will come. Got them all signed up for reading for the summer so hopefully they retain some smarts this summer. Really they are great kids and all super smart, they asked to go to the library to get the books. I even get to read to them sometimes. Soccer is keeping everyone busy at least for a few more weeks. We will be at the State finals this weekend. Some good soccer and a little rest maybe. The weather is suppose to be great so I’m looking forward to it.
Workouts and cardio have been great, it’s warmed up enough and am getting in about 3 miles each run. Really starting to like it, something I thought I never would. Been lifing good and feeling good also. Still haven’t lost the weight I wanted to, the diet (like everyone else) isn’t were it should be, I go a couple of days doing good, then something happens. This week we took our 7 yr old out to Red Robin for dinner. (It’s something we do for all of them). The burger was good but paid for the heart burn for two days. Guess the body was trying to tell me something.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, be safe and keep hitting those workouts.

Well what I’ve been waiting for is finally here….warm weather; it hit the upper 80’s today and was a fantastic morning to run. What a great way to start the day. I managed to get a pretty good leg work out in this afternoon (slow day at work) so all in all it was a good day. Especially with a 4 day weekend. Nothing much planned, just yard work and maybe try and catch the new Star Trek movie. Heard it was good, so I’m going to try and drag one of the kids along with me.
I’m trying to drop a few pounds, but it’s not coming off as quickly as I like. The nights this week have been busy as hell and it has played some havoc on the diet. I was able to get back on track today, grilled some chicken and had a big salad to go with it. Tuna for lunch and eggs this morning for breakfast, wish it was easy to eat that way every day. Going to try and watch what I eat and drink this weekend, should be easier with nothing much planned, should be plenty of time to work out.
With school winding down and the peak of soccer season, it’s hectic every day. Oh well, love spending time with them, just wish it wasn’t on the run. They are all doing well so far, got one heading to the finals in State and at least 2 other on the way. My college daughter is home and healing nicely from surgery from arthroscopic surgery; she should be back on her feet in a few days and back to soccer in a few weeks. She is kinida funny on the vicodin.
Hope everyone has a great weekend, remember why we have it. Fun and games is great but remember those that have fallen before us so we could have the freedoms that we have today.

On the road again this week to St Louis, not a bad place to be, just not a lot of time to explore it. I’ve been able to get some great cardio in; I’ve run every day this week, 2.5 miles yesterday and today. It’s 80 out and a great afternoon for a run. A little dinner tonight, class tomorrow and then back home to Indiana to the family. I know it is always tougher on them when I’m gone. The wife runs her butt off trying to get everyone where they have to be. She does a great job! I get stuck with 12 hour days and lonely nights. The workouts do help; I do usually get 2 in a day. Usually weights in the AM and running in the PM. This website helps some, at least it some adult conversation every now and then. It seems that while I usually teach adults, they can be so childish sometimes. A few weeks ago, I had to hammer on an officer because he was being stupid in class, just wouldn’t let a topic rest and was making a fool of himself and was wrong. Finally had to pull him aside and tell him to be quiet or leave. Guess I’m loosing patients as I get older.
I’m cutting back on the carbs to drop some fat, would like to know if anyone has had much luck that way. I know I can loose weight, but want to make sure it is the fat and not the muscle. I’m beginning to see a little definition, hopefully will have some new pics up soon. Probably won’t be too impressive, but time will tell. The cardio is helping a lot as is the no tobacco, can’t believe how much energy I have with having a dip in all the time, still miss it sometimes, but I know I’m better off without it.
Thanks for all the kind words and support and if you are traveling yourself, be safe. Thanks

I’m on my way back home again to Indiana (I think there’s a song in there somewhere) and it was a pretty frustrating week as the workouts go. The hotel had a 2 treadmills, so I did hit them 2 days in a row, but they where down for maintenance the last two days, they did have a stairstepper kind of something so I managed cardio every day. That was good, but there was no weights, didin’t expect anything at the hotel. Most bases have a gym or something, but this one was under construction, they said it will be nice, but didn’t help me much, so other than push ups and sit ups, zilch. I did manage to eat pretty good, so hopefully that will balance things out a little. I’ll look forward to hitting them hard either tonight or this weekend at home and then next week at work.
It’s off to soccer games on Saturday and Sunday, not very productive, but I enjoy watching the kids on the field. They always seem to amaze me how good they get. I’m off work on Monday and then back on Tuesday. I’ll be on the road again the follwoing week to St Louis. So hopefully that week will be better.
I’ve heard that some of the other road warriors use different kinds of bands or eqiupment when they travel, I’d be interested in hearing what has worked best for those. Hope you all hand in there and be safe. Thanks

This has been a pretty good week, both with the workouts and the eating. I managed to run a few times this week and hit the weights everyday. I like the feeling of hitting it twice a day, it’s a great rush. Just trying to gear up for working this weekend. Still trying to bulk some, so I hope the few added pounds means that it is working.
I’m on the road to South Carolina next week, despite the 12 hours days, I should manage some good cardio, the hotel says it has a fitness center, this usually means a treadmill and a bike, but maybe I’ll be surprised. Maybe the base will have something. Sometimes they do, but don’t like people hitting them during non duty hours. I’ll be traveling by myself, so the tempation to party won’t be there, I enjoy relaxing in the hotel room, don’t have to fight with anyone for the remote and it is quiet. I don’t get much of that at home.
Thanks for all the support and be safe.

Spring break is over, other than not doing anything it was a pretty relaxing week. I always enjoy when I can spend time with my kids. They did start to get on each others nerves late in the week, but that is to be expected, the weather wasn’t good for them to get out and play. The wife finished up the painting and we got the kitchen put back together, I played musical chairs with bedroom furniture, I still can’t believe how much “junk” my girls had in their room. Took us most of the day but we got it cleaned up.
This weekend was filled with soccer, my daughter plays in college and she has 3 games, all at home. Looking forward to seeing her play again they just added a new forward and my daughter plays midfield, it will be fun to see how well they can connect.
I changed my workouts to go along with adding NO-Explode. I’ve upped my sets to 5 and keeping the reps to 8-10; still doing 4-5 different sets and one body part per day. I’ve been doubling up on shoulders/back and working in abs. It’s only been a week, but it seems to make a difference. I really feel it a couple of days later and like the soreness. Don’t know if it’s the new supplement or the change in routine, but time will tell.
I also managed to run outside on 4 days this week, it’s finally warming up and I enjoy the time alone to think and work out the stress, it’s still a way to freakin cold and can’t wait for it to finally get warmer. Woke up to snow on the ground this morning….
Thanks again to all of you and be safe.

It’s good to be back home and back into the wonderful Indiana weather. While we didn’t see any snow over the week end, it might have well as have, we had rain and thunderstorms. Like they say, if you don’t like the weather in Indiana, wait a few minutes and it will change. I’m home from work this week to spend some time with the kids as they are on spring break. Not much going on, just taking it easy. We worked on painting today, the wife did most of it, seemed like she was having fun, so I left her alone. I managed to hit the weights and helped the girls sort out shoes. I still can’t believe how many pairs they had and how many they couldn’t find the matches for. We had fun doing it and made some room in their closet.
I’ve been trying to increase my cardio with running a few miles at least 3 times a week. It’s tough with the weather, but have managed at least twice so far, it looks promising for tomorrow. The weights have been frustrating, just doesn’t seem like I’ve made much progress. I’ll keep hitting them, I’ve gone to 5 sets with 6-10 reps. We’ll see if it helps.
I start with some NO-Explode, this is the second day, work outs didn’t seem like much, but I am sore, so hopefully it is working. Just need to eat a little cleaner than I have been. It’s been a big breakfast everyday, lunch has been good, but dinner has been my down fall. We went out for Mexican food tonight, decided on fajitas, could have done worse. Each day I’ll try to do a little better.
It’s been 16 days since I quit smokeless tobacco and I think the worst is over, the weekend I almost gave in, but didn’t. I can thank my girls for that one. Thanks to everyone and be safe.

Only one more day in beautiful southern Maryland and its back home. Even tho’ I had to eat out a lot I think I managed to do well. The hotel has a free breakfast so at least I could select eggs to eat. Lot of scrambled eggs and some fruit. I also managed to keep the alcohol intake to a manageable level…something’s just go hand in hand with traveling. The hotel has a great work out area and I did legs after getting in on Sunday followed by some cardio, did a couple miles run on Tuesday and will do chest tomorrow morning before finishing up and then catching my flight. Hopefully Indiana has warmed up’d enough to get my morning cardio in.
I haven’t had a chew (tobacco) for over a week and it’s been really tough…especially when flying, but I’m sticking with it. I like the feel of more energy and not relying on the nicotine in the afternoons…..I didn’t remember how much it really dragged me down. I feel my workouts have been better too.
Can’t wait to see the family..I always miss them when I’m gone, sometimes I think they get along too well without me. I know they don’t but then that is why they are such great troopers. Strong independent little blessings. It’s probably toughest on the wife as she has to make sure everyone gets to where they need to be…she always does such a great job.
Thanks again for all the encouragement and advice.

Another week down and only had one cheat on the tobacco. Been clean since Sunday though and am starting to feel the benefits of it. Little more energy and little more motivation. I think I’m over the hump. It hit the 70’s this week, but back down into the 30’s. I got a couple of good runs in, but then I caught a cold. I think I got it from one of my daughters….bless her heart, she’s not feeling any better than I am. We’ll tough it out together. I’m still going to get a work out in today, just won’t be to great of one.
I have a 3 day weekend before I take off for DC for a few days. Should be a good time, hard work, but I’ll probably drink way too may beers. The hotel has a great work out so maybe I can balance that out a little bit. I’ll be back my the middle of the week, then work a couple of days and then spring break.
Thanks to everyone for their motivation and encouragment
