Blend and prepare to nom nom nom through a straw**

So I was going through my book collection and found an OLD body composition data sheet… back when I was vegetarian with an ******* boyfriend who hated food and tried to hide my vitamins. Interestingly enough I also tried to remember what I lifted around then and found that I am now lifting 3-4 TIMES more than back then as well - and at similar rep ranges. Here’s the then and now:
Then (27 years old) - 118lbs, 18% bodyfat
Now (31 years old) 126lbs, 17% bodyfat
I have nearly 8 more lbs of lean now… WOOWOO!!!!!!

From my Mom’s side of the family comes the dreaded booty, the "ba-dunk-a-dunk-WHUMP" as I sometimes call it. Sometimes the object of jokes in our family, or a really easy way to spot us in crowds… I was always embarrassed by mine as a teenager and was almost horrified to find out years after high school that it had had its own little "fan club" within my group of male friends: "Those pleated skirts you wore DROVE US CRAZY!!!!" It wasn’t that it was an ugly butt, its just that it was large and apple like and well, I was/am relatively small. So, when you’re high school me, about 5′1", 110lbs clothed its a fairly obvious booty! I remember "trying everything" to make it just a little bit smaller, even going so far as veganism and 10 day modified fasts (with cardio!) none of these things worked - they only made it sadly sag a little… which was WORSE! About 6 months ago, I started to think about the lower body workouts I had done in the past and reflected that the kettlebell squats, deadlifts etc. had been helping - but not as much as I wanted them to… I have an extreme booty, so I need EXTREME results! HAHA. Seriously though, through the forums I came to one where someone was mentioning similar problems and within that thread Mindi911 recommended Supervixen by Negrita Jayde - which I went and purchased through Amazon, no pun intended. Over the past couple of months I have been doing a fairly intense lower body workout at least twice a week and well.. FINALLY after over 15 years I am seeing significant results. As we are sitting here right now I am confident enough to go to the beach and NOT swim wearing a pair of shorts over my bathingsuit. This will be a first for many years - woowoo! Anyway my relationship to the booty has improved because now, after lifting with it I see it less as an immovable obstacle and more of a power source. Through my reading and studying of the personal training materials I’ve discovered that the glutes are one of the largest and strongest muscles in the body - I can really believe that now! Who knows, in the next few months I might be actually PROUD of my booty… crazy stuff!!!

The "that doesn’t look very feminine" nay-sayers have shown their heads. Whatever. I like how I look, so they can piss off.

I had to do some errands up by the university this past Friday (upper body day) and decided to just go ahead and do my workout at the university gym for a change - normally I just do legs day up there because of my schedule. Anyway - they have tons of free weights etc. and I got to change up the workout, add in some stuff AND because a really cool bodybuilder and his awesome girlfriend were working out at the same time, we all took turns spotting each other and sharing encouragement. It was SO COOL. I had just been doing a horizontal chest press machine on my usual day and was curious as to how this would translate to a regular good ol’ bench press. I used to have access to a bench etc. all the time, but never ever was able to get past 70lbs or so on it (I was also eating crap at the time and not training as much as I am now). Because it had been so long, I just started by putting 2 10lb plates on each side for a total of 85lbs - which wasn’t too much of a problem. Because of my new friends I was able to throw 2 25lb plates on there and go to town for 3 more sets of 6-7 each - which is the best I’ve done so far. I finally had enough data to fill out a couple of the lifting stats on this site, darn it! Now I’m just bummed that I don’t have access to that gym ALL WEEK and a regular workout partner. Someday….
In other news, I went out to the club again this past Thursday and its pretty amusing that my "new look" is really starting to make some waves - maybe it will encourage people to get more active - that would be super cool.
Disney (EPCOT) is having a special Women’s 5k for heart health awareness etc. next month - my good friend/neighbor and I might decide to do it - she’s more of a runner than I am, but sometimes we jog together for fun. I just think it would be super fun to go running around through EPCOT, and its for a good cause- besides, 3.11 miles isn’t all that far.

From the last post? Well, I got a wild hair yesterday and on my 3rd set of leg presses on this:

strange machine at the university gym decided to throw on an extra 45lb plate and "just see" how many I could do - of the "boyfriend’s bodyweight goal" (270). I did 10!!! GO ME!!!! The best part was that one of my gym buddies walked in the door during the last few reps and started cheering me on, what a great surprise. Glad it was the last set though, whew!! Then, because I’m a geek, I decided that since I was able to squeeze out 10 reps, I should calculate the 1 rep max (even though this was on the last set, I know… not so accurate, but still fun to practice the math), which came out to about 360lbs…. which is almost 3 times my bodyweight (2.92 times 123lbs). Anyway… not sure how this all translates given the strange nature of that leg press machine - it is the only one they have, so yeah… not a lot to compare it to. I might get another gym membership for a week/month trial or whatnot just to switch things up and see how it translates. Have you used that type of leg press machine? It’s made by Hoist, if that helps.
