Ok, not really drama, it just sounded like a funny title. Lately I noticed that I look like I’m slumping a little - and last night at the club I kept correcting my own slightly slouchy posture… Did some hard staring and a little research today and it seems I have been neglecting my posterior deltoids!! I did some bent over lateral raises, some bent over "L-Raises" (Thanks, Negrita Jayde!), and some rear dumbbell raises - already looks/feels like I’m working in the right direction… it’ll be easy enough to add these into my little split plan…
Speaking of the split plan - I can finally honestly say that I like "legs day" and that I’ve got a hilarious new goal… I want to be able to do a significant # of reps (5-10) on the leg press machine of a weight equal to my rather large boyfriend. Its a funny goal, but kinda fun - I joked with him last night that if he starts losing weight, then he’ll make it easier for me, so he’s helping both of us. Right now I can do 3 sets of 13-14 reps at 200lbs, he weighs about 270 so… yeah, I have some work to do, but I don’t think it will be impossible.

So, last night, for the first time in over a year, my boyfriend decided to go to the workout room and lift some weights. Previously he had only been doing cardio - and I found out why - about a year ago a trainer (during his free "trial session") told him that he just needed to do gobs and gobs of cardio to lose weight (he’s fairly large, especially around the middle) and not to worry about lifting anything. GAAAAAAAH!!!!!!! I didn’t find out about this until last night! The good news is, he had been talking to a friend at work who was about his size 6 months ago, then began a program of lifting and moderately higher intensity cardio (elliptical machine), reasonable eating etc. and is now a nice healthy weight and feeling better. After talking with this friend several times about his workout/success, he came to me last night and said, can you show me how those elliptical things work, and I’m going to lift a little too. Granted, he did NOT like the elliptical machine, but kept at it for a fair 5 minutes, vowing to up the time gradually. He then used mediumheavy weight on several upper body machines for 2 sets of 12 reps each — he experienced a little "ow, I haven’t done that in a really long time" but came away with a sense of accomplishment. This morning when he work up, he still have that sense of accomplishment AND a little more energy - most importantly I think he feels like this is something he can do that will make a difference in his health and appearance. Boy howdy can he complain though…. some of it is at least funny - during shoulder presses he says stuff like "AAAAAA!! Thats it!!! I’m saving up for lipsuction!!!" to which I reply, NO you may NOT borrow my shop-vac!

So yesterday was "leg/butt" day, which in the past either hasn’t existed, or was something that was more of an afterthought. The irony of this of course is that I’ve always had a problem with my (relatively) large booty, not so much with the size, but with the shape/texture of the skin around it. That is starting to change (hurrah!!!!!!) as I get my bodyfat down where it needs to be, BUTT I still have a very pronounced gluteal fold area that makes me look like I have a hanging down butt and small roll of fat at the top of my thigh. This is always bugged the crap out of me since it makes bathing suits (and various underthings) look HORRIBLE.
So, now we have "leg/butt" day and I’m starting to dig it - finally. Before it always felt like chore since I wouldn’t see the same type of fun and nearly instant results I’ve usually seen with upper body stuff. Now I’m starting to see that these somewhat heavier legs/butt are SERIOUS power sources that can move big heavy stuff around (well, relative to my body weight that is). Thanks to Mindi911’s recommended book "Supervixen" by Negrita Jayde I’ve designed a workout specific to my shaping problem areas that is also very satisfying to do. Its fun to put a stack of 45lb plates down on the machines and just get it going!
The other amusing thing about this day is that I typically use all the fun/awesome equipment at Stetson Univ. (I’m up there for business several times a week anyway) and get to work out with a bunch of college kids, and college athletes who are full of energy and enthusiasm. Most of them think I’m a student (which is cool since I graduated a whole 9 years ago) and I’ve noticed some of the younger frat guy types checking me out, then whispering to each other in astonished tones about the sort of workout I’m doing. So hilarious!!!!! On some sparsely populated days, its cool to be one of the "hot girls at the gym". These guys have no idea that I may be as many as 10 years older than them. Good times! Just wait till we all hit the pool this summer.

Because its hard for me to find clothes that fit properly - mostly due to the large booty and my comparatively small waist - I decided to make a dressform to help with sewing - since thats a hobby I enjoy - and since it is pretty much necessary anymore. What is it with mainstream clothing for women seeming like they’re cut for pre-teen boys?? Last time I checked, women were supposed to have some curves. Anyway, I’ll save that rant for another post. So… using a modified form of these directions I now have a silvery duct-tape representation (even the right height!) of myself that is reasonably accurate (off by 1/4" to 1/2" here and there). Which of course prompts the following reaction - WOW! IS MY BUTT REALLY THAT BIG??!?!!!? No wonder I can’t find pants that fit which aren’t technically palazzo pants, army-navy full cut bdus, or buying large and nipping in the waist by a few inches. Yeash. No wonder things were out of control when I was a bit overweight -not so much a badunkadunk but a badunka-WHOMP! Needless to say I’m working on it - not so much from a size issue, but of a shape issue and also that’s where the last little bits of the dreaded cellulite are hiding…. must DESTROY!
