Good to be back…

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

I kinda had to take most of last week off - Monday I decided to give Crossfit a try and gave it my best shot - which turned out to be somewhat of a mistake - there were some misunderstandings and I didn’t know to pace myself on the first few sets (not knowing there were 10 of them!!!!!).  The next day was a little sore, but I took it easy by going to Tai Chi practice and then a *very* light jog later that night with a friend.  The day after that DOMS hit as never before - and doing things like brushing my teeth and hair became quite an issue.  Everything was cool except for my triceps - which hurt VERY badly just standing there and then would not tolerate me bending my arms at all (eccentric contractions anyone? haha).  This finally eased off completely on Sunday.

Being me, I decided to make the most of the situation (what was I going to do, mope?) and learn all about DOMS, muscle strain, injury recovery, etc.  I also must admit I did use the "healing" excuse to eat a little out of bounds - but nothing too crazy, just stuff like extra tilapia, 2 ostrich burger patties instead of one, a giant plate of chicken marsala (ok that was crazy), etc.  Managed to put on an extra pound - hopefully not all fat.  But now, its back to the plan, but with more info and experience.

Also I now know a little more about exercise intensity in terms of my ability and you can BET that I’m going to ramp things up a little so I can go in there and kick some ass next time (I’m saving up for some 1 on 1 Crossfit stuff).

WOAH! That facial redness remedy is really working!

Friday, October 12th, 2007

For the heck of it on my last order of vitamins from here, I decided to give the Fade Out Facial Redness Remedy a try - I have had these 2 pesky red blotches on my face since the teen years that just wouldn’t go away - they’re mainly a result of irriation from dust masks at the warehouse and the fact that I have relatively sensitive skin.  After 3 days of using it, I’m seeing a big difference in something thats been bothering me for over 10 years.  Heck, my boyfriend even noticed.   Looks like I don’t have to save up for those Murad facial redness treatments after all!  More $$ to spend on other stuff - like kettlebells or a new pair of inline skates…

Prayer of the Rollerboys

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

Ok, so after my usual work (shipping, manuf., inventory) at the warehouse, an hour of tai chi practice and building 2 end tables (need paint/decoration and btw my new saw ROCKS..), I decide to go for a little bit of skating with Crownvic. This ends up being more of an adventure (to which I remark - "oh crap, I remember this afterschool special…") when two of her "Urban Skate" buddies show up. Almost 11 miles later over highly questionable terrain my already battered skates need wheel rotation, a new brake pad, and yeah, I won’t forget to take my glucosamine today. It was a lot of fun, harrowing at times (holy crap, a sand pit!) but glad I did it. Next time I do it though, I’ll make sure that I’ve had more to eat - I was running on the last bit of lunch (literally over a pound of veggie fare from a new deli in DeLand), a smoothie and a cocoavia bar. In other words, next to nothing compared to what I usually eat. I got home and was in state of near-bonk finding things that normally shouldn’t be funny to be hilarious (Axis describing how to hard boil eggs made me nearly hysterical). I shoveled down a whole mango and some peanut butter toast in an attempt to get my mind back. I’m still a little loopy today, but nothing I can’t solve (yay huge breakfast wrap…)

All of this reminds me…. I really miss the early 1990s sometimes… be patient because it loads slowly… but totally worth it:

“…but only if she’s 5′3″ “

Monday, October 1st, 2007

Seems a lot of Sir Mix A Lot’s big booty classic applies to me, oh well.  Looking to change that somewhat.

In other news, its super cool to see that there are a lot of what has been called "petite" (5′4" and under) women on here, I used to think that I was some kind of short weirdo.  WHERE WERE YOU GIRLS WHEN I WAS GROWING UP??!!!?  If there’d been more than just me being a little short growing up then so much of the picking on I got would have been diluted, or well, given that a lot of you gals look pretty tough then maybe we wouldn’t have gotten picked on at all.   It used to be a major issue - I don’t know what was making all those other kids so freaking tall.  No one gives me crap about my height anymore, but I guess that should be expected at age 30…

Still studying hard for the ACE personal trainer test - the anatomy section is proving to be challenging, but after I do some self-quizzing and memorizing then I shouldn’t have much to worry about - part of this is just remembering how the heck to study again - college graduation feels like it was a million years ago!
