One Sixty-One and Done?

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008

This past Thursday morn I stepped on the scale and saw 161. Having survived a party at work followed by an office Happy Hour, I was mighty proud to see my weight still down. Now that I’ve gone out of town for Thanksgiving and consumed plenty of empty carbs, I know I’ve gone up at least two pounds, but I am not discouraged. I’ve got at least 30 days before the end of the year and my Quarterly Report due date. I look forward to the next month of clean eating, hard lifting, and enjoying getting healthier!

Craving carbs- again!

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

Somehow, despite pizza, beer, goop covered pasta, missed gym sessions and lots of time indoors, I’ve managed to maintain 162 as my bodyweight. The biggest challenge to my losing more weight (other than the coming cold weather) is the fact I am now craving carbs. All the weekend partying I’ve been doing plus the lack of sunlight/warmth is making me want to raid a bakery! Here’s hoping I can at least get back to the gym regularly, if not return to clean eating and more biking/rowing.

Half a Workout

Friday, November 7th, 2008

My Friend Al is right to say getting to the gym is an accomplishment. Lately my life has been very busy and I am having to review what’s most important. Night before last I got less than six hours sleep and even that was not free of interruption. So, when I felt tired yesterday eve, I decided to skip Aikido and get some more rest. Did end up going to the gym for a "make-up" session on Chest & Bis (from Wed). Only had about 1/2 an hour of mental energy in me, so I just worked intensly.

Well, this Blog is mainly a way of getting word to all my Friends that I am okay, just far busier than normal. I look forward to chatting more with each and everyone of you as I get more accustomed to my new schedule.

Best!

Beautiful things I’ve seen/experienced

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Brief rain on winding Highway 1 between Cape Canaveral and Titusville with golden sunshine on all the lush grasses and tall trees (if you’re a photog or motorcyclist, you will quickly understand)

A curvy, tree-covered road through lush greens between Laura Walter Park and Okefenokee Swamp Park. (take this on a bike or in a convertible)

Fields of peanuts with golden sunlight on the lush soil, cotton plants covered in white, dozens of peach and pecan trees in peoples yards (Georgia is VERY worth seeing).

In my head

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

All alone, all alone; on this long and winding road; in the cold, in the cold; just a dog without a bone; still I roll, still I roll; with the Sun to guide my path; going home, going home; where my head will rest at last…

Power

Thursday, October 16th, 2008

(With thanks to FitBit & Flobots)      Power, I have it and it feels good, especially when I use it to make positive change in my Reality: Come lunch time, instead of riding or stretching, I will sometimes go down to the Town Lake Animal Shelter to visit with the dogs held there. Some of the canines are up for adoption, but about 2/3 are "in observation." Of these, a good number will be transferred to the "safe & petable" side of the facility, but some will get "retired." Whether it’s because they are found to be overly aggressive, carry illness, or have injury deemed "not worth treating," these poor pups will never know another home.

My first few visits to Town Lake Animal Shelter, I spent most of my time talking to and petting the dogs on the adoptable side of the complex. It’s nice to be able to walk, play with, and feed treats to pets you don’t have to clean up after. Since I was looking to Adopt, it also made sense to spend time "grading" the available candidates. Pretty soon though, the barks and whines coming from the "observation" wings of the shelter drew my attention.

Going over to the "no touching" kennels, I immediately noticed a difference. It wasn’t so much in the nature of the pets, it was in their appearance and surroundings. Though the many staff members and official volunteers do their best, pets far outnumber people and not all needs are met equally. The kennels in the adoption area are generally cleaner, get better sunlight, and their occupants seem a bit better groomed. Also, dogs that are sick, injured, or recovering are kept in the "no touch" area, furthering the more "gloomy" attitude I perceive there.

I don’t have a blue Staff shirt, or a yellow Volunteer shirt, but the dogs seem to know me. Maybe it’s that they smell the treats in my pockets, maybe (flattering myself?) they know my voice, and maybe it’s just that they appreciate someone coming by to give them some attention, many of my "temporary" friends wag their tails, jump up, and even emit short barks as they hear me calling out my approach to them. Dogs are dogs, they give Love without question and they need it back. I am glad to visit with all of my four legged friends and feed each of them a treat while sharing some Love.

Similar to the above, "I am human and I need to be Loved." (thanks Morrissey) Last night I saw a young woman whom I haven’t spoken to in a couple of months. It’s been many years since I first asked her out and even longer since I first met her. Both the lady and I have changed a lot through the years, especially me in the last 16 months. Anyways, I complimented my friend on her latest hairstyle and she lit up like a halogen bulb. Whether it’s because of my improved appearance, the fact that I was feeling positive, or just that I gave her attention, it was obvious my friend was very drawn to me. Since I am not at a stage where I feel getting into a new relationship would be of mutual benefit, there was no way I could take it further than being nice. So, I complimented the lady again on her hairstyle, I asked if she’d been "working out" (yes), I noticed her earings, and I told my friend I’d look forward to seeing her looking even happier and doing even better next time we meet!

I don’t wake up thinking "how am I going to make the world a better place today?" I do get out of bed and make time during my day to open doors, to compliment people, to help those I can and to overall improve my Reality by using my Power to do things that I deem good because they make me and others feel good!

Best!
