Going out with friends……help?
I have a problem of when I go out with my friends I CANNOT STAND TO WATCH PEOPLE EAT. Right now my goal is to get cut, it requires a lot of hard work, dedication and a good eye on diet. Of course the diet has to be hardest part. Anyways, I can’t watch people eat! It drives me nuts! The whole time in my head I have a little war whether to eat and have a good time or kinda mope and sit there and not do anything. Of course some of you are saying "why don’t you get something healthy?"….well some of the restaurants that we usually goto serve a lot of junk food and we would usually go late at night. I cannot justify spending $11 on a salad with a little piece of grilled chicken while my buddies are spending $5 and getting 30 chicken wings.
Anyways, I ask for your help! What do you guys do to fight off cravings while going out with friends? Alcohol is not a problem, I’m not really a drinker to begin with; but with food is another story. Any comments would be appriciated, thanks!

If you want to hang with your friends you either need to brung your own healthy food, or eat off the healthy side of the menu. Good luck finding something that works for you.

Eat before you go so you re not hungry.
Get your friends to go to a restaurant that has what they want and what you want….ie a steak house or something…they got have the crap and the good stuff generally

I went out with friends last night, but while they ordered dishes with sauces and fried this and that, I stuck to grilled veggies and shrimp and no beer and no dessert. It’s really hard to not eat bad food when we’re with friends, but you just have to do it. Bringing your own food is always a good idea. I can’t ever seem to do that so I just don’t eat. It sucks, but mostly my friends are understanding. Good luck!

If you can get thru a meal with friends eating lots of crap that looks good but don’t cave, that should win you a medal!!!

Sorry to comment twice but I thought of something else to add. I struggle with this also, and of course the easiest answer to the problem is not to go out with those friends who don’t share your commitment, but if that is not an option, you just have to fill up on good stuff before you go. Some options:
1. eat a protein bar, or 2
2. keep drinking water
3. sometimes, diet coke kills my appetite and it also keeps my energy up if I want to be up late
-Just some thoughts, you will find what works for you!

it looks like your in the zone, but honestly, you can’t impose your will on your friends. it seems like you’re not tempted, but you just want to correct THEIR eating habits. but, when you meet your friends out, things usually center around the grossest of food and cocktails.
i’m not really this way about food. i’ve had to limit my dinners to the friends who actually respect what i’m trying to accomplish. but, cocktails were another story for me. i used to be a party girl (thursday thru sunday) and most of my diets were liquid until i needed something to soak up the alcohol. i’ve limited the amount i drink since i stopped hard core partying about 2 years ago, but now when i go out (i still like to dance), i notice how much my friends and the people around me REALLY drink…and i’m like whoa! i used to be that drunk girl who barely knew her limit (LOL). it doesn’t bother me that they drink, but i’m not really tempted to drink more than my one or two usual glasses of wine.
