Wii Fit
So, the Wii Fit tells me my BMI is 26 something, which means I’m in the overweight category. However, my bodyfat % is 16. something. I am 5′7" and weigh 164 lbs. I don’t think I’m overweight. Sure, I’m not stick thin, but I’m athletic. Geesh, the Wii Fit totally lowered my self esteem! It even changed my Mii to look tubby!!! It gave my Mii a gut! Yeah, we joked around about it, but I think the Wii Fit should take into consideration more things than just the BMI. It doesn’t know my measurements or what kind of workouts I do at the gym. All it goes by is the time you spend playing the games on it, or if you enter in the mins of light, moderate, or hard activity. It is a fun game though and I guess it’s totally worth it for sedentary children and adults who do nothing but play video games all day. I just wanted to vent about how it called me a cow!! haha.

According to my BMI I am "Moderately Obese" In fact I am closer to grotesquely obese than I am overweight! If you have ever seen a gym in person before, through BMI out the window!

This is interesting as my daughter just got one for her birthday.. I had better check it out. I don’t want her self-esteem to go to hell. Thanks, Tim

Ok honestly I just had this same conversation with friends of mine. Thier kid..who is not overweight started to get a complex after the wii said he was overweight. I sat the little lad down. I have been a huge fan of the wii as well as the wii fit…although I haven’t been able to find either around here to buy. Someone told me that this info is screwed up. The wii’s formula for BMI comes form the UK I think. I can’t rememebr the exact aruement but it made sense to me.
All this to tell you your progress looks amazing. Screw the wii.

Haha, cheer up… with bf of 16%, you’re in good shape! Don’t listen to that Wii. You’re definately not overweight. Best of luck on your goals!

BMI is a formula that was developed when soldiers were coming back from WWI or maybe it was WWII, I can’t remember exactly. Anyways, it only takes into consideration your height and weight and there is a scale to determine in what category you are. It does not take into consideration your bodyfat.
If you are fit, then your BMI will be pretty accurate. However, if you look at keeping your bodyfat % low and increase muscle mass, then your BMI will be worthless.
Personally, I say just monitor your own weight and bodyfat and use the WiiFit for fun.
Also, my WiiFit said I was overweight also, which is funny, because I am trying to gain weight, but in muscle mass.
