So I’m dug in for the last few weeks before the Indianapolis, and then two weeks after that, the Jr. Nationals. Money’s been tight, but thinking about everything I’ve had to overcome to get this far just makes me hungrier for a win. I am going to take my weight class at the Indianapolis, there is no doubt in my mind about that.

So far, I’ve dieted following Layne norton’s principles on contest prep. Basically, that means HIIT cardio, keeping a low to moderate amount of healthy carbs in the diet, low to moderate healthy fats and moderate protein. last year i did a keto diet (Palumbo’s) the whole time, and by the end my body was fighting me every step of the way, and I had much less energy than this time. I’ve been timing my meals pretty instinctively, shooting for a bout three hours between meals, but going a little longer if my blood sugar is stable. Right now, I’ve just switched to a keto diet, and am sticking with it for two weeks, to shock my system and get rid of those last stubborn bits of fat. Then I intend to do a slow carb up over the week and a half before the Indy.

Training-wise, I’ve been doing a five day split, using a Charles Glass routine I’m fond of as a template. I frequently switch exercises out and add various techniques to the routine to keep it fresh. I’m currently doing cardio twice a day 6 days a week, but up until recently it had been once a day 5 times a week, and starting out just three. I stayed very lean in my offseason, so it only took small changes to get my body to start shedding fat and didn’t have to overdo my cardio. Right now I’m already leaner than I was for my show last year, and should be weighing in a couple pounds heavier, so I’m very pleased and confident.

The title is a quote from a Kai Greene interview I heard on No Bull Radio that I found very inspirational. "Give me 8 inches of daylight, and I’ll be unstoppable!" And like Kai, i feel like I’ve gotten my 8 inches of daylight, and I’m running with it.

So I’m a month out from the 2008 NPC Indianapolis, and I am way ahead of schedule. I will be showing definite improvements in all areas this time around, and I have no doubt that I am going to take my weight class at the very least. I’ll talk about the differences in how I dieted this time around as opposed to last time at a later point, but I certainly think a big help has been the gains I was able to make in my limited offseason while staying lean, and making the investment in solid supplement base to support both my offseason and prep. I’ll post some more of my basic info and outline my prep later, but for now I’m out.
