Hey, Canadians, eh?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Just hoping all my fellow Canadians on here are having a SUPER C Day!  And that the weather is nice wherever you are, it’s sucking here right now, cloudy, gloomy and drizzling at times.  Anyhoo, have a good one and be safe!

Trying different workouts

Sunday, June 29th, 2008

Yes, I’ve tried many types of workouts and routines and found that I couldn’t commit to only one type.  Started doing Crossfit just after I started working out in my garage and I found after doing these workouts since April that I like to mix these workouts with my rings, bodybuilding type workouts and powerlifting, and i never seem to do the same workout twice, i try to but i always throw in something different or sub one exercise for another, if I don’t then boredom sets in and it always has, i must have ‘workout A.D.D.’ or something. lol…Can’t you tell from the run-on sentence?   I’ve tried the P90x system, Crossfit, the 5×5 workout, the NY city Ballet workout(yes i have,no wonder they have killer legs!),Taebo and kickboxing and heck I’m sure there will be more too.  Why not try new things with our workouts, even if we find that one type is not enough?   Unfortunately i quit kickboxing sessions as i thought at the time we we’re moving away, well that was back in early April and now we are moving in the fall so i feel like i can’t go back, like it’s too late and all the other students are so far ahead.  Yes, I’m embarrassed about it and wish i could, i hate to think of where i would be now with all the sessions  that were missed.   I won’t forget about what i did learn and like to think that after our move i’d like to join again after moving.  Well can’t rejoin at the same place because we’ll be approx. 650 miles away! lol  What kind of workouts have you followed and did you like and stick to them?

Some of the customers i get! Geez…..

Well working at a GNC for the last 11 years has always been entertaining to say the least.  I had two ladies come in and they looked like they were around my age but you know these days it’s hard to tell.  They asked me, "Give me the magic pill" and i asked then, "For what do you need it?"(I knew it was for fat loss)and that’s what they wanted it for.  I get a little annoyed sometimes and told them straight up but without haughtiness what they needed to do because i’m sick and tired of this, it’s not really anybody’s fault but they’re not aware of what it takes so someone needs to tell them!  I told them it takes eating five to six small meals a day(I know someone who eats seven meals a day!),staying hydrated and exercising.  With that said one of them replies,"Oh I don’t like to eat that much and oh I don’t want to get a big and muscular".  I told them I like to eat…..a lot and with this type of eating you rarely ever go hungry, who doesn’t want that right?   Then I stressed that they shouldn’t joke around about their health since they have to take care of themselves because no one else will.  With that they said "Thanks" and couldn’t leave the store fast enough.  I felt bad(a little)because I knew what it was like to once not know where the heck to start or what to read and was so frustrated.  Thanks to the Powers that be for the first MUSCLEMAG that I bought back in ‘92!  It changed my life!  ?Wish I still had the copy…….

Just for kicks, this is my bro and I as kids, we never stopped, not for two seconds and it didn’t matter what the weather.  We would be outside for hours.

Been doin’ something new

Monday, May 19th, 2008

Well i recall reading someone else’s blog about the Crossfit site and then read about it in a Muscle and Fitness mag so i must say that i was intrigued by it.  Decided to try it out on April 17 and it was amazing, i haven’t been bored since.  My workouts no longer consist of only just weight training but i’m using the rings more with powerlifts and odd exercises that i dare not do at the gym.  Speaking of the gym i haven’t been there for about two months and have zero desire to return now that i have my private space, my garage.  Everything i need is in there but would really love to have more k-bells and a heavy medicine ball or two.   That’s going to be put on hold for a bit since we are moving at the end of the summer.   Check out Crossfit for a new routine if you are bored with your current one.

The answer to Mr. Grey’s question…..

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

Oh boy, the ring training is super tough!  I took some classes at my gym in this and the instructor who is ripped like no one else was very knowledgeable and experienced in gymnastics for all of her life.  I feel that going with a qualified instructor is the best way to learn about this as one could seriously hurt themselves doing this unsupervised.   Working with the rings will tear apart the core like nothing else.  You’ll work even the tiniest stabilizers that you never thought you had.   If someone is interested then you should check to see if your local gym offers any of these classes to get started and go for 6 or more sessions.  It’s soooo worth it and man or woman will build up a different kind of strength that when you train you will notice how much easier it is to lift the heavier weights.  For the benefit of using the rings it was best to cut back on heavier training and focus on just getting the best form possible.  Being lighter helps with lifting yourself off of the floor for different exercises.   I dropped almost 10 pounds in three weeks but i was also doing a 30 day cleanse, avoiding ‘low fat’ foods and cutting out anything that contained sucralose, aspartame or any other artificial sugar.  Ten pounds of giggle in only three weeks!  That’s never happened to me before until i changed EVERYTHING!   I got super serious about this as my back blew out as well.   It took some physical hurt to wisen myself up and i hate to think of that.  It angers me that it happened.

Working out whenever i can is a must now and my schedule is legs on one day, rings the next if not too sore, legs day after and day after that might be rings or back day with weights.  I’m increasing my cardio to 30 minutes when time permits after each weight training session and next will be adding rope jumping at the end of my rings sessions for 25 to 30 minutes.   If i’m too sore a day after whatever training then i take a day off.    So if your interested in the rings after you’ve gone through several sessions they can be purchased at ringtraining.com and i recommend getting the dvd as well.  I warn you that if you try it, you will not be able to get out of bed, you might as well take a day or two off from everything else as you WILL be aching like a banshee!  I couldn’t sit upright in bed for four days and my better half had to roll me out of bed so i could get myself ready for work.  Well i hope i didn’t bore you with all of this and that you did get some new info.  If anyone had experience in ring training then leave your reply as i would appreciate any advice and comments.

I’m a bottomless pit!

Monday, April 7th, 2008

I got bored today at work since my boss left at three and i didn’t have much to do.  I read and read some more and started to eat my supper, then an hour later had cheese and crackers(i never eat these)but they were at hand so in the mouth they went.  Thought that would end my hunger but i was still hungry.  Seeked out a protein shake then two protein bars and i thought enough already!  I’m going to self sabotage my goals!  I think it may have been dehydration so i guzzled tons of water and felt so much better.  Did 40 minutes of ring training in my garage this morning and it felt so good to be back in my territory where no one can be in my face.  In my garage i can do anything like even work out in my undies!(note to self, buy mini blinds for garage window)  Tomorrow is leg day and gonna bust a gasket if i don’t make it!

Week three of goals

Sunday, April 6th, 2008

So this is week three and now i’m at a standstill with my weight.  It’s stuck at 150 but i know this is only a little obstacle in my quest for abs and leg definition.  My diet has been exceptional and the workouts more than just regular.

meh…..

Well had a short shift at work today and i don’t like those ones.  I’d rather work 9 to 5 or 1 to 9 and have the ball rollling.  Leaving just when it gets busy throws me off.  Then, along with my brother we went to granny’s, ate some nasty food and now feeling guilty that i have to hit the gym in a bit to burn it off.   Had my BLAST drink and i’m ready to kick ass in the gym!

My car is burried and i need to go to the gym!

Tuesday, April 1st, 2008

I’m so glad i plugged the car in(keep the oil warm) because i woke up to find it literally burried under snow!  What the hell is Mum Nature letting Old Man Winter have his way?  It’s spring damnit!  Oh and i’m so freakin’ sick of hearing people at the store saying, "Oh I don’t want to get all huge so i’ll want to wait until i burn some fat before i touch the weights".  Can i punch these people in the face?  OK that’s mean but come on….I’m just tired of it.

Hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend

Sunday, March 23rd, 2008

What I thought would be a so-so day turned into a great day.  Went for a run which usually takes me an hour but because i had a dinner date with one of my galpals i had run it in 45 minutes!  I was pumped.  For supper had a beautiful and delicious steak and potato meal with dessert(which i should have passed on)lol but that’s what happens when i’m with my friends.  We don’t care how much we eat when we are together, heck if i wasn’t at the restaurant we would’ve licked our plates as the food was so damned good! Nasty, i know.

Anyway, going lighter on the weights has definitely helped me with my cardio and fat loss.   Don’t get me wrong as i haven’t lost the intensity for the weight training sessions that’s for sure.     I just wanted to run and run and run…..the sun was so bright and warm that now i crave those summer days when the sun shines on my skin and the smell of the woods and the scenic trails and…………summer!
