Six weeks out…

My trainer says I’m "on target" with my training schedule. I pumped out three sets of 230 lb reverse-grip benches for seven reps, which was good, but tiring - it feels like an aerobic workout! Next I did three sets of three-board reverse-grip presses, 255X2, 270X2 (the second rep was sloppy) and 280X2 (also second rep sloppy). But, did it!

Next week we go back to standard grip, up the weight to 240 lbs and lower the reps to 6. Then two-board presses, don’t know the weights yet, but should be heavier than this session. Felt amazingly good afterwards, not too beat up at all. Good sign, I guess.

Seven weeks out…

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Keeping to the plan and just pumping it out. Did two one-board reps (almost three) with 275 today (standard grip) about equivalent to a 285 1RM. I’m feeling stronger, and have managed to get past most of my pains and strains with no new injuries (please let’s keep it that way!). Can’t wait to do 285 off the chest! Maybe next week, though it will be reverse-grip, so we shall see.

I’m also making good progress with my back, reaching shrugs off the rack with 555 pounds for two reps. That takes it out of me, but I can go farther…
