Nine weeks out…
Thursday, February 26th, 2009I’m now nine weeks out from my RAW bench meet in Kennesaw, GA. My trainers have me on an “old school” progressive resistance program of three week groups of two sets (like one set of regular benches, one set of three-board presses) of five sets starting out with ten reps. Sets will consist of regular benches, board presses, band presses, and reverse grip benches, etc. I will be increasing my working weight by five pounds each week while decreasing the reps by one each week, culminating at a 290 press for one rep the week prior to the meet. I’ll take the last week off for recovery. At the meet I’ll go for 290 as a “known” quantity, then strike for 300. Sort of confusing, but it’s all written down.
I started out today with 205 as my working weight with sets of ten reps, then worked up to a three-board press at 255 for three reps. Doing 10 reps like that is almost a cardio workout! Gets the heart pounding, but feels good. I’m surprised how not sore I have been after my workouts. I guess I’m finally getting somewhat used to the strain. Hope that’s a good sign!
