Working Steadily.

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

I’ve been hitting the workouts steady, and apparently making steady progress. Last Monday my trainer had me try some negative benches for about the first time since my rotator cuff injury six months ago. I was surprised at how light the 250lb bar felt, and with no pain! I could have gone higher, but my trainer wanted to be careful. However, he thinks I should be back at the 300lb bar within two weeks. Then I can begin making some real progress. I can’t wait!

Moving up some more…

Friday, April 11th, 2008

My last two week’s workouts have been OK, but spotty. My main trainer’s father passed last Friday, so he was unavailable for the week, and I had to put in my own version of his workouts for shoulders/tri’s and back/chest. I cheated a bit and upped the weights some. Lucky I didn’t hurt myself; the workouts actually felt pretty good.

Lower body was also good, and I am carefully approaching my 1,000 lb leg press. I did about six good, deep reps with 18 plates (all the machine can hold) which, at around 810 lbs plus the carrier at 50 lbs, is 860 lbs. I feel confident in doing 20 plates which, including the sled, is about 950 lbs - if I can figure out how to load the extra weight.

I also had to do my own bicep workout last Friday, as my lady trainer was in L.A. for a photo shoot. I did the same as before, upping the weights a bit with no difficulties, leading me to really look forward to today’s trainer-assisted workout. When we started, I was pleased to find her loading up the preacher curl with some decent weights. She started me out with 100 lbs, with which I did for an easy ten reps; then she loaded on 125 lbs, which I did for a good eight reps. Next she put on 145, which I did, but had to stop at the second rep, even though I had the strength, when I felt my left biceps strain sort of weirdly - I didn’t want to create an injury. The top of my top outer bicep felt over-stretched, though not really painful, and I was able to complete the workout with lighter weights.

But wow! I was both surprised and pleased to have managed the 145 lb preacher curls! That is nearing my goal! I look forward to letting my bicep rest a week, and then attempting it again!
