Initial Assessment

Tuesday, April 24th, 2007

I had my initial assment on Monday. Mo put me through a series of exercises to determine my fitness level; lots of high reps and cardio. Apparently I did OK, particularly for someone in their early 60’s. Based on the assessment I will be receiving my customized routine along with dietary and other guidlines designed to help me reach my twin goals of maintaining/improving my overall fitness and gain strength. I will post my routine when I receive it.

P.S. Kudos to Monique Hayes for setting the U.S. 425-pound women’s deadlift record in the 124-pound class at the Quest American Invitational Powerlifting Championships last weekend!

Monique pulling 425 pounds!

Into her hands…

Thursday, April 19th, 2007

Ok. Now I’m really serious! I had to admit to myself that I just can’t do what needs to be done without some form of structure, and someone to help keep me on track. So, I have switched gyms and hired a personal trainer.

The gym has more of a "hard core" mindset (no ferns, juce bar, sauna, or aerobics classes), with serious members of all types, plus a number of amateur and pro bodybuilders and power lifters (both men and women). Everyone there is very friendly and supportive.

I am also very fortunate to have discovered a wonderful trainer! A record-holding powerlifter and pro body builder, Monique (Mo) is extremly knowledgable and professional.  I am in very competant hands, and can’t wait to see progress!
