This one’s for Gpa

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Went to the funeral today for my gpa.. it was kind of enlightening more than sad.. I was glad he’s moved on to a better place and liked the loving atmosphere I was in… I dedicated today’s workout to him… and here’s the numbers on my working sets!

Pullups: 3 sets of 8 reps slow.. one set wide, one middle, and one narrow for warmup

T-Bar Rows: 230×11 (tried to hold the weight at the top for a half a sec before doing next rep)

Machine Rows: 290×9 (slow controlled reps)

Deadlift: 410×10 (I was very pleased with this!) and it was good form too!

Shrugs: 435×11 (did faster paced reps)  ** Did 225lbs for slow controlled front shrugs (12 reps) and held for 2 seconds at the top of each rep… then did behind shrugs with 185lbs for 2 sets of 12 ( very slow)

I was pleased with today’s workout despite the conditions… Gpa would be proud ;)

TRAIN HARD!

Chest/Shoulders

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

Due to being sick, I haven’t done chest/shoulders for 10 days :( I did them today and saw no improvements except in dips… So I’ll save myself the 10 minutes and just tell you what I did for dips…

Weighted Dips: Body + 90lbs and belt… for 10 reps.  I felt amazing on those… why nothing else improved is beyond me.. maybe it’s because I’m still partly sick.. and not completely over it..

I do know that my calves aren’t bulking up as fast as I want them to… So I’ve decided to do them 3 days a week.. and push the set amount up to 10 sets per day instead of my usual 7.. Going to add in 3 sets of one legged calf raises so I can really pound them.

I will most likely be gone over the weekend down to the lake one last time before I get too busy with school and work life… So I wont be posting much then.. ** also next week will be my light week since I havent done one in about 2 months or so now.. So i’ll just be doing 50% of failure working weight on all my exercises and focusing on perfecting form/ reparing muscle for the weeks to come.

Have a good one everyone!

Pushing through my losses: Legs

Monday, August 20th, 2007

So through the pain and sorrow of the loss of my gpa and the personal life stress…  and being sick all weekend.. i decided to see how I could do on legs today… All of my numbers went up EXCEPT my barbell squats… I think I started them out too heavy… but anyway.. here’s the numbers!

Barbell Squats: 365×8 (that’s 4th set.. then I went down to 225lbs and did 12 VERY deep slow repped squats)

Sled Squats: 770×10 (5lbs higher than last week and just as many reps)

Front Squats: 210×10 (also 5lbs higher than last week and more reps, i coulda pushed out one more)

DB Lunges: 70’s in each hand… for 2 sets @ 13/8 reps… for some reason my first set keeps going up but my second set is always 8 reps… hmm…

~Calves~

Standing Calf Raises: 185lbs for 3 sets @ 14/12/11 reps

Sled Calf Raises: 340lbs for 3 sets @ 13/12/11 reps

Freemotion Superset: 400/360/300lbs for 20/30/40 reps (no rest)

I did 30 crunches , 20 weighted side crunches (50lb db) , and 30-60 toe raises after each calf set!

OVerall it was a great workout and I still feel like I have energy right now!! My legs beg to differ though ;)

On a side note… Thank you EVERYONE for helping me through this hard time

Train hard!!!

Stress = enemy

Monday, August 20th, 2007

With having personal life struggles and college starting back up ( :( :( :( ) and being sick… training the last few days obviously has been put to a halt… My grandpa passed away last night too… Of course that can’t stop me from doing what I love to do… So after classes today I’m going to see how I feel (physically) and try to push in a hard leg day…

Hope everyone is having better training than me!

Brian

blah

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

I’ve taken today and yesterday off of lifting due to getting a sore throat/nasal congestion crap… I’m hoping it’ll be better by tomorrow so I can do legs and blast them again.

Arm day :)

Friday, August 17th, 2007

So, my forearms didn’t give me as much grief as they usually do on arm day… which is good!  My triceps really didn’t improve too much… I lowered the weight to get my form corrected on most tricep stuff.. biceps still went up though!  Anyway, here are the numbers on my 4th set of each exercise… enjoy.

Ez-Bar Wide Grip Curl: 120×10

Ez-Bar Close Grip Bench: 225×9.5 (required help on last rep)

Hammer Curls(DB): 70’s in hand x 12 reps

Skullcrushers (EZbar): 125×8 (triceps were starting to give out at this point of the workout and forearms getting weak)

Close grip Cable Curls: 170×12 (going up next week)

French Curls(tri): 115×8

!~Forearms~!

Supinated wrist curls: 20lbs x 3 sets to failure

Pronated wrist curls: 40lbs x 3 sets to failure

Did 40 reps of high cable curls at the end with light weight and also did superset cable rope pushdowns for 40 reps on triceps to get the blood flowing at the end of the workout.

 Train hard!!

Back/Traps + Pics

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

So today I did back and traps.. Very good workout for being pretty early in the morning! Also.. I know I’ve been putting off getting progress pictures up.. and I’m working on that.. I’m going to talk to my g/f today sometime about it and see if she has a decent camera that will take some good pictures.. and I’m going to find a self tanner so I can have some color when I take the pictures LOL :)   ANYWAY… here’s today’s workout for those that care. (only working sets)

Pullups(body): 14/13 on a bit wider grip… 3rd set was narrow overhand for 9 reps.  All sets were overhand.

T-Bar Rows: 230×11

Machine Row: 300×8 (good perfect form, I was slacking form last week)

Deadlifts(only slight bend in knee): 405×11

Barbell Shrugs: 430×11 (faster paced reps) and then took 15 sec break and did 12 reps with 90’s in my hands.

** I think I broke all my previous back/trap workout’s records… WHich is good, my personalized routine seems to be working very well.. and on a side note, my legs are far from contest ready, but I’m noticing a lot more shape in my calves all around, and my quads are starting to fill out better!

Train hard!

Bodyspace losing sight of actual point

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

First off… This isn’t meant to bash anyone in particular or piss anyone off… I’m just going to get out what I believe some people on the forums always overlook..
I see a lot of more viewed pages of people that are either 1.  Extremely cut and skinny/ or of women that just try to impress all the men on this site with their near naked bodies…  THis site is for improving general health and progressing in fitness/bodybuilding.
Secondly, I get sick of seeing people on bodyspace leave comments to people that have like 4% bodyfat, saying they look huge… when they’re just ripped… and In fact, arent even that big.. And then I see people asking them for advice when it really isn’t too complicated.  Yes, it is a good accomplishment to be ripped, but it is often confused with actual size.  There is a difference between being very cut and very big.  It also takes a lot of hard work, and years of training to be big, when it just takes proper dieting to become cut to a % of BF you want.  (depending on how big you are starting off, you may have to diet longer, which makes it progressively harder)

But I’m just ranting and saying.. .We should all look farther into what we comment.  Don’t just look at looks, appreciate those that work hard on a daily basis and encourage everyone.  It’s hard to explain where I’m coming from with all of this.. but it all sparked when I went to one of the top 8 guy’s profiles (the one with 4% bf)  and read some comments on his pictures… just made me sick..
That is all ;)
