5×5 Day 2

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Did my second day of 5×5 routine today… The more I think about it, the less I want to do it… Idk if it’s the Purple Wraath and White Flood, or just the routine, but I have TONS of energy after my workout today and it just felt like it was too light and didn’t work me hard at all… Maybe I didn’t start the weight high enough.  The second thing I DONT like is the fact that it ignores assisted movements and bodyparts.  I know it’s working with primary movements to build overall mass, but at some point, the assisting movers are going to start to become unsymmetrical (if that’s a word.)

SO……. I’ve decided to take one off day and go back into an 8-10 rep scheme / isolating body part routine… I am, however, going to use acclimation sets and do ONLY the last set of each exercise I’m doing to failure… that way I don’t overtrain, but I still tear the muscle accordingly.  I will be starting all of this on Thursday!  Keep reading back :)

On a good note for the day… I shrugged  430lbs 8 times with perfect form.  Woot!

Keep training hard!

Day1 Brian’s 5×5 Routine + new stack

Sunday, July 29th, 2007

Day 1 of my 5×5 routine… Also started White Flood (still older version) for pre workout and Purple Wraath during workout..

First day is a bit lighter due to getting used to the workout… Not to mention my body is going to be taxed in the next four days, hitting the same body parts 3 times a week.

Squats: 165×5, 205×5, 245×5, 285×5, 325×5

T-bar Rows: 105×5, 130×5, 160×5, 185×5, 210×5

Bench Press: 135×5, 170×5, 200×5, 235×5, 275×5

Assistant Exercises…

Hypers: 60lb DB in hands to chest…  2 sets of 8 reps

Calves:

   Strt. Leg Standing Calf Raise: 160lbs  @ 3sets for 12/12/12 reps

   Sled Calf Raises: 320lbs @ 3 sets for 13/13/13 reps

   Freemotion Calf:  superset…  400/320/240lbs @ 1 superset for 20/30/40 reps (no rest)

Felt like a good workout :) Only decently taxing exercise was bench.  I may have to lower the starting weight a little, depending on how my chest does on Tuesday.   Keep checking in!

New Routine

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

In case none of you read my workout log… I’m taking 3 days off of lifting to let my body fully repair and then on Sunday I am starting a new 5×5 routine that will hopefully jump me over my plateau I’ve hit… And I need to find a camera that works to take update pictures on… hopefully I can do that this weekend also..

** other news… Starting White Flood/Purple Wraath on Sunday

Back/Traps Day

Sunday, July 22nd, 2007

So today was supposed to be my second day off of recouperation before I did chest/shoulders tomorrow… BUT… I decided two days in a row off is just too much so I went in and did back/traps since my triceps are still sore from my arm/calf workout!  Lower back was a bit sore still but it still went well… here’s today’s numbers… no sets were taken to complete failure.   ** All sets had 2 minute breaks between them **

Body Pull-Ups: 3 sets  ||  14/8/8 reps (slow controlled)

Machine Pulldowns: 250lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  14/12/11 reps

T-Bar Rows:  bar+205lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  14/12/12 reps

Rack Deadlifts: 405/355*  ||  3 sets  ||  First two were with 405:  12/10 reps   *Set 3: 8 reps

Front BB Shrugs: 295lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  14/12/10

Behind BB Shrugs: (no straps) 210lbs  ||  14/13/13  (very slow controlled)

Then some high rep cooldown stuff…

Hope training is going well for everyone.. :)

Arms/Calves

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Today was a pretty good workout despite what the rest of the week has been like! I Continued to take 1.5-2 min breaks between each set for a change of pace and did the 8-12 rep range… The workout is as follows…

EZ-Bar Curls: 110lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  12/10/9 reps

Close-Grip EZ:  195lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  11/9/7 reps

DB Curls: 45’s in each hand  ||  3 sets  ||  12/14/9 reps

Skullcrushers: 115lbs  ||  3 sets   ||  12/7/11*                * Did 105lbs on the last set due to fatigue

Standing Calf Raise: 150lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  12/10/9 reps   (Fully contracted… slow controlled reps, Very hard to do correctly.)

Sled Calf Raises: 320lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  12/11/10 reps   (also slow)

Freemotion Calf Superset: 400/320/240lbs  ||  1 superset  ||  20/30/40 reps

Also did 3 high rep sets of rope pushdowns and EZGrip Curls at the end to keep the blood flowing in arms.  Great workout!  Tomorrow off and then back to chest and shoulders if tri’s arent sore!

Leg Day

Thursday, July 19th, 2007

Figured I’d put up the numbers from today’s workout… Changing everything up so nothing was to failure… and at the end I started getting really nauseous, so I had to lower the weight on my lunges…

Barbell Squats: 295lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  12/11/9 reps

Strt. Leg Deadlifts: 295lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  12/12/12 reps

Leg Extensions: 260lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  12/11/8 reps

Leg Curls: 215lbs  ||  3 sets  ||  12/12/12 reps  (easy)

Lunges: 40lb DB’s  each hand  ||  3 sets   || 12/12/12 reps  (easy)

Went to about 1-2 reps from failure on everything cept lunges and curls…  2morrow.. arms / calves! woo!

World Class Physique changes

Tuesday, July 17th, 2007

So… After watching some world physique dvds, I decided to try some new routine stuff.. Instead of doing this triphase thing.. I’m going to up the reps from what I’ve been doing and go for an 8-12 rep range(12 on the first set, more than 8 on the third.)

 Today I did Back and Traps… And it was a very good workout! It wasn’t to the highest intensity, but I was helping my brother learn to lift with correct form so that threw my focus off… and I was testing out my form as well with new exercises and reps… But overall it felt like a great workout!  (By the way, I LOVEEeeeee using an olympic bar and rowing one end of it with 45’s stacked on.. it feels like it works really well.)

Good luck training everyone! Pictures coming at the end of this week!

Not even gonna bother posting my lifting stats today.. I did chest and shoulders… my arms were sore from a workout I did 4 days ago… and my endurance today was completely shitty… my arms were giving out after the second set so I had to lower the weight on everything substancially… not to mention I’m doing 8-12 reps on all my stuff now… and only have a 1.5min break… neither to which my body is used to… so yeah… 2morrow is another day. Hopefully it’s good.

Funny Story

Sunday, July 15th, 2007

So you know you’re a hardcore lifter when you and your friend are with a bunch of people, canoeing on a river, and people you pass by laugh at you because you both are drinking a half gallon of milk and amino water instead of beer… It was hilarious… and they were making fun of me and him while we just laughed because they were fat and we aren’t! mwhahahaha… thats my story.

Offff day! :)

Friday, July 13th, 2007

Time for my 2 day break before I start week two of my new program.. Next week is 4 sets per exercise instead of 3.  Hope I can force these all out!  Have a good one everyone!
