Something I’ve forgotten…

Pushin’ weight, even your own body weight, means being mentally prepared to do it. For example, I’ve been in a funk for the past week, and went to the gym. Thought I was gonna be cool, right? Blow off all the steam I had pent up inside me. I did the benchpress for 10 reps and was done. My heart was NO WHERE in it! It sucked. In the past, I’ve worked out to let off steam. But as I’ve gotten older, putting my heart into something means so much more.

Now, before I go work out, I meditate for 15 minutes prior. It’s helped big time, even if I don’ completely clear my mind of all the negative shit going on. I take it out on the weights like I did before, and my workouts have been better these past few days. 10% physical, 90% mental is what I remembered someone telling me. Glad I remembered. :)

Yeah, I’ve heard the mental aspect is a big deal, too.

I’ve also read that visualizing your exercises prior to hitting the gym is a good way to get psyched. Dunno. Will have to give that a go.

Hey, I replied in Chad’s blog to your one question. Don’t know if any of the following will be useful, but thought I’d offer my two cents:

@DreMalone: I ordered Animal Snak (30g protein and 304 calories) from BB.com and they taste great. Good for the skinny bastard here. Also orderd Met-RX Protein Plus which I’ve purchased at a few local gas ‘n go places, convenience stores. They taste good. And even the standard PowerBar (9g protein and 230 calories) taste good and come in a variety of flavors.

Got two Igloo coolers - one the size of a typical lunch box and the other the size of a small microwave oven - that I put bottles of frozen water in along with Healthy Choice dinners, tuna in tupperware containers, my supplements (probably a waste of money, but, hey), and shaker bottles filled with ON Whey, BSN True Mass, as well as carrying a separate Tupperware container of instant oatmeal.

None of it tastes like last week’s leftovers to me, but I’m not a picky eater or shake drinker. ;)
