Stay away from anything other than the real thing. All of the margarines, anything hydrogenated, fractionated is BAD! The body can handle butter, can digest it and can burn it. If you want to switch to something. Try extra virgin olive oil with one clove of garlic, and a sprig of rosemary shoved in the bottle. A few drops on the plate and you can dip your toast into it, controlling the amount of fat. If you want to go with butter. Try this… Take a stick of butter, rip off only half of the wax paper, giving you a clean place to hold the stick of butter. Use this to "paint brush" your toast fresh out of the toaster. You actually are using less than ¼ teaspoon of butter and spreading the entire piece of toast, giving just enough taste.

The spread I use is free of hydrogenated oils, I agree they can cause heart problems.
