Rest and recovery. What do you do?
Thursday, April 9th, 2009Thursdays are abs and cardio days. But I’ve been tired all day. I’m sure it has to do with the fact I’ve been in the gym the last 5 days and weight training 4 of those days with hitting a personal best each day. I’m tired. Fridays are my rest day and I work half a day tomorrow.
So I decided to make today a rest day and hit the gym in the afternoon tomorrow for abs and cardio.
I’ve been strictly controlling my eating for over a week now and have noticed some good changes. Two people told me this week I was getting smaller. The strict diet, the longer cardio and the added supplements are working. But today I was HUNGRY and tired. I knew my body needed a big meal and rest.
Went to my favorite restaurant in Atlanta (its a vegan spot with GREAT food) and bought a great meal. Came home, ate and dropped in the bed about 7:30 p.m. I woke up at 11:35 p.m. My little nap turned into a 4 hour sleep session. Oh yea I was very tired.
Last Friday I went to a meet n greet event at my cousin’s dance studio. She had vendors there such as a massage therapist, chiropractor, and people who sell holistic body care products. I started thinking about needing to create a recovery program for myself.
I love working out, enjoy being in the gym six days a week and lifting five days a week has been wonderful. I’m happy about it but today has taught me I need an organized down time. Getting that free massage last week showed me my muscles could use some TLC besides just getting to bed early. My off day from the gym is Friday and I’ll have to create some kind of program for myself before hitting the gym on Saturday when I hit chest and back.
What do you do for rest and recovery? I’m looking for some ideas.
Time for a protein shake before I head back to bed.
