Pre-Hab Activities

Sunday, October 8th, 2006
So, in the past 2 weeks, I have had a significantly reduced level of exercise.  Instead of climbing stairs for 30 intense minutes, I’ve been getting in te pool to “Hydrocycle” - bicycling in the water.  This activity, albeit “unique” has its benefits: mild resistance is provided by the water…cool temperature of the water is soothing to my knee.  I am still maintaining strength of my upper body.  Today, I worked biceps, triceps, and delts for 60 minutes.  I followed this up with a Pilates class desgned for those stricken by Multiple Sclerosis.  With all the dealings with my injured knee, I “forgot” that I have a chronic, debilitating illness.  Whatever…it’s all relative…as I never forget to “Appreciate the Negative.”

Road to Recovery

Wednesday, September 20th, 2006
As some of you may already know, last week, I competely tore the ACL of my left knee.  This occurred just days before my much anticipated competing in the North American Championships’ Figure Pro Qualifier in Cleveland, OH.  I have scheduled the start of my 4 week “Pre-Hab” - habilitation of the knee before I go under the knife.  I start Monday, so I will be sure to keep you all updated.  Besides, I’m sure I’ll need to let off some steam. Wow, I’d pay to be ABLE to do a lunge with moderate comfort.

AGONY of Defeat

Tuesday, September 19th, 2006
Well, my 2006 NPC Figure competition year ended prematurely.  The evening (9/13) that I was packing for my trip to Cleveland, OH for the North American Championship (9.16/06), I busted my knee.  It’s confirmed that I tore the ACL and other rather extensive damage.  Irony - hours before, I worked LEGS.  Yes, lunges, hack squats, etc.
So, I have an appt. with a specialist to discuss the “future” expectations and plans for my injured knee.    I guess this really throws a mokey wrench in my initial plan to build, build, build leg muscle this upcoming “off-season” before the ‘07 Jr. USA Championship.
Any words of advice from others  who may have had a similar injury?
