How Many Knees?

My inquiry is, "To those out there, in "Bodyspace" land, who have had a torn ACL and perhaps subsequent surgery, what has been your experiences thus far?"

Just today, I have haphazardly come across a few members here with knee surgical tratment - past, present and, or future.   When I say, "future", I mean planned or scheduled.  By no means am I claiming to be a clairvoyant.

Anyway, I am 3 months post Reconstructive ACL surgery and have significant hopes for competition years 2007/2008.  It has been a challenging, ongoing struggle.  However, each passing day yields healing progress.  Negative, I am not sulking or giving up on competing again.  I am just curious to hear YOUR stories.

Cheers!

Had knee surgury back in 94, tore my ACL, lateral miniscusus (sp?) and a few other things. Doc told me I would only get to 85% and that I would not do any more routines. (this was before figure) I told him to suck a lemon and he was full of crap. I tweaked it again a few years ago, but the bottom line is, once you have had a knee injury, the focus is on protecting the knee. Do all your movements forward and avoid side to side at all cost. Some days your knee will coorporate some days it will not. Such is life. Keep with your goals and you will get there. ICE, ICE and more ICE will be your best friend. You can do it, there are so many exercises you can do these days that do not put pressure on the knees. OK that’s my long boring knee story.

    Hi Dawn,
I just wanted to write and say WOW I am blown away by your physique…which you earned with your unbelievable dedication to your goals. Good Luck competing this year. I will be watching; and hopefully following in your footsteps in the coming years.
    Take Care,

Thanks for the encouragement. I guess all this ice here in Dallas is happening for a reason…to re-hab my knee - Lol. I will continue to stick it through. I have no other choice. It is definitely a setback, but NOT the end.

Hi, I have now a while to read your blog and I want to wish you good luck. It remains me my own story. I felt down from horse and horse felt over me and I had ripped liagments in my left forearm. Because there was some other damage I was paralysed (three fingers+wrist) - what could be for while or for ever (nobody knew that),,,,,,,
It took me two years to get back to regullar training and another year to next competition.
Now I am OK and my hand moving without any restrictions. I know this is not knee injury.
I admire how disciplined you are, because I was in deep depressions that time and was not in the gym for one year almost.
    Keep it up girl.
    Cheers

    Greetings Dtrek…
I am also a post ACL’er, although more recent. I had mine done 6 weeks ago. Slow but steady progress… I also started keeping a Blog, although I haven’t been as serious or intense about it as you have! My goal is a 5K sometime in the Spring, and to get back to doing what I want, when I want — which is why I lift weights in the first place! I can’t run yet, but I’ve been walking forward and back on the treadmill, and also on the stairmaster, which is finely starting to get my quad back into some semblance of a shape!

Good luck with your continued progress, and feel free to check out my progress at my BodyBlog…
