Like talking to a brick wall,LOL
So many people i talk to about losing weight always tell me that they don’t wanna lift weight(this is guys and girls) cause they wanna get skinny first then build up muscle. I have a friend at work that every time i try to get him to come workout all he wants to do is cardio, now he’s a heavier guy about 280lbs. I tell him hey lets hit the weights to build up the muscle and in turn you’ll lose more weight casue more muscle means higher metabolism which mean burning fat faster, but he says i wanna lose the weight first(get skinny) then build up muscle. I’m to the point now that i just say "ok"LOL.

I hear you. One of my friends and I always joke about it. Unfortunately, it’s especially true with women, but the men believe this also. Although they generally say, ‘I know I should lift, but it’s hard’. No $#!+!!!!! If it was easy, everybody would be in shape!
It’s hard work now because we don’t live in manual labor times. We don’t have to haul water, tend the fields, chop down trees, go fishing or hunting if we wanted meat. Our metabolisms could support eating a lot of calories because we were burning alot of calories. Now, we can shop for food online and in some cases, have the grocer deliver them to your doorstep.
We as Americans are killing ourselves and don’t seem to care. OK, off my soapbox! In closing; I agree with your observations 200%! Lift Hard or go HOME!

Yeah, I think the preconceived notion is that only cardio will get you thin, but resistance training both works faster and smarter, since it builds lean muscle while doing cardio (if you work out right). Oh well… only people who do a little research will know this, and most people can’t be bothered.

I’m guilty of this…I guess because I feel like I’m already "short and stout" and the concept just doesn’t seem to "fit". But I’ve been lifting weights every day regardless of what my deep seeded thoughts are, and trust me, it takes a lot of patience to do it this way because I know I’d be getting smaller quicker with less weight lifting (but the flipside is…it wouldn’t last as long).
See…some of us are listening!
