“Personal” in Personal Training.

Hey what’s up bodyspacers, got a quick question for you(personal trainers) that i need some advice on. How do you deal with people you are training that no matter what you just can’t get tem to be positive. I mean I’m training someone that it seems like right before they show up for there training session they think about how the can make the training session so difficult and negative. I mean it’s everything from body language to verbally just flat out saying no to pretty much anything that might be a little challenging and intense. As a trainer i know we aren’t gonna be like at time during the workout but i kinda take it personal that maybe i’m the one doing something wrong, but the crazy part is this person is getting great results and i can’t understand why the are still so negative about the on training session?

I’m not a trainer but i do deal with people and their shit attitudes and my theory is: If they pay their bill? then **** it. let them be miserable, your gettin paid if they are happy or sad.

I’m not a trainer either, and unfortunately, I have little time for people who are not positive in their attitude. Life is too short for that!

I have to agree with the comment above. If you can cope financially without the client you are talking about then give him/her an ultimatum. Explain to them that you’re the trainer and everything you’re telling them to do is for their own benefit. if they dont want to comply then tell them they’re going to have to find someone else. Its harsh but they’re clearly affecting you as a person and making you doubt yourself as a personal trainer so as is said above life is too short and you shouldnt have to put up with that sort of crap. Definately try and work it out by talking with them but if there’s no progress i say find someone who is willing to work for and with you to achieve their goals. Will

I am not a trainer, but I understand that each person is different. There are some that really want to change their lifestyle & others that just talk about it and fine all the excuses in the world on why they can’t change their habits. With the negative people, try and focus on baby steps…make small goals in order for the larger goal to feel so far away. Good luck.

Yes, finding what motivates one from another is a trick. But there are some attitudes that just shouldn’t be allowed during a session. Whatever exercise this clients hates… (and we all have one)… that’s what you put her on everytime that negative attitude comes out. Pretty soon, she’ll figure it out and shut up.
