Unleashing the Real You

January 18, 2009

As I sit here this Sunday morning taking my recovery day, thinking about my goals and what i still have to acheive, I am reminded of my favortie book. I would recommend this book to almost anybody who is a dreamer. It is not a fitness or nutrition book, it is a book about how to set goals and reach those goals. the book is "Unleash the Warrior Within" by Richard J. Machowicz and it has helped me to knock down many barriers in my life that seemed insurmountable. Richard is an Ex- Navy Seal and takes you on a journey into how to acguire a target (setting goals) deciding what targets are important and what is a distraction. He then demonstartes how to plan the attack and systematically knock the targets down. I would highly recommend this book for anyone on this site. For so many years I was never able to decide what I really wanted, thus I never was able to complete anything. I bounced back and forth but was unable to focus my efforts on one goal. This book has inspired me and motivated me to always keep my goals in prespective and how to prioritize the events in my life. May you find continued success in your personal journey.

12 Inches From The Dream

January 17, 2009

Most people have dreams and for those on this site that is better health, fitness, appearance or all of the above. We sit back and come up with the perfect plan to make the transformation, but for a lot of people the dream ends there. "Next week I’ll… I’m gonna do this… etc." common phrases, but not much power and for all to many it dies on the vine, until next year when we think it again. We are only 12 inches from realizing the dream, it doesn’t seem that far, but may take a lifetime to get there. it took me over 20 years to make the first couple of inches of the journey.

The journey starts in the mind, we think it. Sometimes we take the first couple of inches to the mouth, we talk about getting in shape. We may share what we plan to do, hoping our friends will hold us accountable for actually doing it. Unfortunately, a lot of times they try to talk us out of it! The journey somtimes ends at the mouth, we talk the talk, but not walk the walk. Those still on the journey take another couple of inches to the throat. We start exercising and eating right, somtimes we continue the journey sometimes we try this for a couple of weeks get discouraged a quit.

This brings me to my main point. The dream starts in the mind, but until it travels twelve inches to the heart, you won’t find success. once you put the dream in your heart, there is nothing that will stop you. The people you see that have been successful models, body builders or sports stars, all have one thing in common. They want it bad enough that nothing else matters, they have put it in their heart to be successful. I hope any one who reads this, finds success in reaching their dreams.

A great place to start

January 14, 2009

Finally got my Blog to start working. I want to talk about how I have found success; you see I was the fat kid all my life. I was the one that had that desire to be fit, but never found the will to make the change. I tried many times but always failed at my attempts. October of 2006 I had something happen in my life that made me start questioning why I was in the shape I was in. I had to dig deep but then it finally clicked. If I wanted to be an athlete, model or body builder, I had to eat, think, train and talk like the person I wanted to be. So how do you do that, first you have to discover what you want the end result to be, then find someone who had attained that level and then emulate what they do on a continual day in day out basis. While it sounds simple, it takes COMMITMENT to keep on the path. I had to make it a matter of Life and Death. For about the first 3 months I bounced back and forth trying to find the right way to eat and the right way to work out. I finally discover Body For Life and took the 12 week challenge. I lost 35 lbs and 12% bodyfat on my first 12 week phase, but the bigger change was that I created a pattern that will last the rest of my life. I’m fixed, I eat, train, talk and think like the fit individual I wanted to be. True there are many challenges along the way, but once you make it through those challenges you can look back on that journey and like yourself for having made it. But the journey is never over, because I never plan to go back, and want to push on to even higher levels of fitness. This year 09 my goal is to be under 10% bodyfat. Two years ago I would never have considered that possible. I hope those that read this also find that level of commitment because the key is not some new diet fad, some magic pill, some new exercise or some new program. It is much deeper, it is making that commitment to yourself and keeping that commitment.
