Week 110 — I just don’t get some people

I was witness to a rather incredible WTF moment at work this week.  A female coworker came in the other morning grumbling about how she had been to the doctor for a physical and he classified her as "severely overweight" and she was all mad about that.  "I wouldn’t have minded if he had said ‘morbidly obese,’ but that ’severely overweight’ just p*sses me off," quoth she.  I am sitting there thinking, "no matter how you state it, dear, you’re too fat" … but I kept my mouth shut.  She ranted for a while and then wandered off.  I sat there and said nothing, still not believing what I was hearing.  Never at any point in her rant did I hear anything like, "well, I guess it’s time I do something about my weight."

I guess I just don’t get women, at least the ones I work with, and their approach to weight control.  We have a number of large women who I have overhead at various times talking about diets and gym use and so on and it’s just bizarre what I hear.  "Oh, I can’t go to that gym, there’s too many guys there and I don’t want them ogling me."  My silent response: ‘I wouldn’t worry about it, love, no one would want to…’  And then there’s the endless diets.  This week or this month they’re trying whatever the latest fad is.  Then the "Biggest Loser Club" gets formed and they all sign up and weigh in for several weeks, someone is crowned the winner and they all go back to their former habits.  Or the sign-up sheet goes around for Weight Watchers to come in, and they go through the program and some drop some weight and then program ends and they all go back to where they were.  Any one of these things would be OK, I guess, if someone would make the requisite lifestyle change, but alas, no one does and then you get the situation I witnessed this week with the one essentially splitting hairs about how fat she really is and how it’s reported on her physical.  Geez.

Meanwhile, in my own little world I keep trying to watch what and how often I eat, and lifting 4-5 nights a week.  Doesn’t take much, folks, just the commitment to do it and to follow through on it.  But I am preaching to the choir in this forum.

I got looking at my stats this week and am thinking maybe I have managed to put on some muscle weight the last few months.  My weight has been up a few pounds since the summer which I was originally attributing to my erratic lifting and diet in the summer months, and I think it was at first, but I see that my BF% pinches have gone down some since the summer but the weight has remained relatively even.  Ergo, that would suggest that I have lost some fat and added some muscle.  I hope so.

The added muscle needs to be a reality, so I’ll keep liftin’.

That is why diet pills make so much money. Everyone is lookin for the miracle drug. Some women will do cardio til no end, but not change their eating habits. I’ve watch women starve themselves thnkng that’s the answer. I’ve tried to xplain, ur body is like a car engine the more gas u give it the higher the revs.
