The Subconscious Mind

I didn’t realize how powerful the subconscious mind was until I heard something last weekend that made so much sense, and maybe some of you out there would agree with this. Our subconscious mind is like a Captain. Even though the Captain can’t see it’s destination directly infront of them, they still know where they need go and how to get there. Now, lets say subconsciously in your mind you are always thinking to yourself, I am fat, or I will never be able to transform my body into the body that I want, so on and so forth. So, one day you decide to start working out, eating better, and actually feeling better about yourself too. Working out, eating healthy, and feeling good about yourself is basically wind, rough waves, or turbulance for the Captain and now the Captain has to get back on track so that he can keep his destination. Your subconscious mind kicks in and takes over, redirecting you back to believing that you won’t have the body of your dreams, which makes your efforts at the gym start to fade, your willpower to eat clean goes away, and before you know it you’ve fallen off the wagon! Next thing you know, the Captain has reached destination sucessfully. So, now that we know how this all works we have to try to change the way I subconscious mind thinks and make the Captain change it’s destination completely. Make goals and stick to them. Go over them everyday. Make small goals, medium goals, big goals all the time and write them down. Force yourself to think the way you want to be. Soon enough, it will become habit. Have faith and be strong!!

Great post, Terra. I find that altering your mindset can also help when you’re ill - convince yourself you are healthy and you’ll feel a lot better! Now…time to tell my captain to steer this vessel straight towards the ‘Damn-Heavy-Squat Penisula!’ Hope everything is good with your training (now that you’ve recovered from the flu).
