Some things I just need to say..

ok, I am so tired of people complaining about sh*t that at the end of the day really doesn’t matter…You know if you can’t be thankful for what you have now..what is the point of having more???

I appreciate everything and everyone in my life and anything above that is icing on the cake!! (mmm…cake..)

 Yah…sh*t happens, things go bad…BUT it can ALWAYS be worse!!! Happiness is not a place, it is an attitude and YOU decide if you are happy or not…no one else can do that for you…

So quit sweating the crap that doesn’t matter..and appreciate what you have…you will be amazed at how great your life really is….

The weights are saving me..

As some of you may know, my mother is stricken with Alzheimers. Got called urgently to my parent’s house last night and to preserve my Mom’s diginity, I won’t give you the gory details but it is apparent that my father can no longer take care of her in their home. I am afraid for his safety since she has become aggressive and it is truly too much for him to handle. The problem is she needs to go somewhere and get professional help but he is not ready to put her "away" as he calls it….By the time I left their house last night I was so drained from crying with my Dad and dealing with the whole situation. Layed awake all night thinking of what is to come…

Fast forward to this morning, alarm goes off at 5am, as always..Tuesday-spinning class…not today…Today I gotta lift. I went to the gym, Shoulders….I picked up all the weight I could handle today..one of the regulars even commented that I had demons in me today…I guess I did and I was going to make them pay! Barely could drive the car home….pulled into the driveway and just sat in the car and felt the fatigue and the burn….it’s saving me..it’s keeping me grounded and it’s giving me strength in more ways than one….I hope it is doing that for you!!!

Ok, so my gym is lame!!

My gym, who will remain nameless (fitworks), is so lame…never have enough attachments for the cable stations. Now the ones that they did have are starting to disappear…who steals cable attachments from their gym!!!

Anyhoo! I prefer to do standing leg work..instead of sitting down so I can keep my core engaged…BUT my gym had no cuffs for the cables…so I went and bought my own. Took it to the gym yesterday, was doing some leg extensions and leg curls..like to superset these two so I did not take the cuff off, just detached from the cable.

This guy comes over to me and says, in a snotty voice, "are you almost finished with that cuff?" and I said no, and walked away. He comes back over to me, and using the same snotty tone, says" well, when will you be?" I said I won’t, it’s mine, it belongs to me. Then..losing the snotty tone, he says, " can I use it when you are finished?"  I wanted to scream…Seriously! No! Do you want share my waterbottle too!!! I politely said no, I would rather not.

He walked away..went over to another guy working out and must have said something not flattering about me based on the look I got from both of them……Oh well, I guess I am not going to win the popular award at the gym today…instead of hating on me, maybe he should go b*tch to the management about the lack of equipment…or GO BUY YOUR OWN!!!! Peace!

I will take that as a compliment!!

Talking to some people I work with yesterday about working out…eating plans..ect. One of the girls says that she doesn’t think that women should lift heavy weight…wait for it…because they will get big muscles..(POW!THERE IT IS!!) Then she decided to point to me…Oooh, I can’t wait to see where this is going… AND she says that they get all veiny! Like in their forearms…WAIT!! Did she just say that I had big veins in my forearms!! Hells Ya!! I wanted to grab her chubby face and kiss her smack on the lips…Veins mean muscles baby!! Big veins means more muscle!!! You just made my day sister!!  I was on such a high for the rest of the day, I threw in some exra cardio…Now if I could just get that vein to pop on my bicep…she will be the first person I show…I mean I owe it to her..don’t I!?!?!

Seriously!! Give me a break!!

Had a bunch of neighbor women over my house last night for cards…hadn’t seen them in a while..everyone saying..wow..you look good, wish I had the time to work out and track my diet…SERIOUSLY!!!  WTF!!!!

Oh yah…beotch! I gotta plenty of time since I work a full-time job, have two kids, a husband, studying to be a CPT, and taking care of aging parents…hey don’t forget the dog, the cat, the laundry, the grocery, orthodontist…should I go on?????!!!!!!!!

You know where I found the time…5am!! I’ll pick you up on my way to the gym!!

Yah, I had to give some things up..like TV…wasn’t doing much for me anyway!!!

You want this, then shut up and put up! Sh*t worth havin’ ain’t free!!

 

ok…i’m better now..

Well, I will never do that again.

I eat the same thing for breakfast every morning. It is 1/2 cup of quick oats, 1 cup of eggbeaters or egg whites, microwave for 2-3 minutes, then I pour a 1/4 of a cup of sugar-free syrup over it. YUM! People at work call it my prison food..haters.

Saturday mornings, my husband and I play golf at various courses around town and prefer a very early tee time to beat the crowds and the heat. Last Saturday we were playing a course quite a distance from our house so had to leave even earlier than usual. No time for my prison food, I quickly ate a bowl of Total raisin bran and we were out the door.

MISTAKE!! By the time, we approached the first tee, I was a shakey mess! I let go of my club, put my hands out in front of me and showed my husband. He asked me why I was shaking so bad. I said , "No protein, too much carbs and too much sugar". It is amazing to me how dependant I am on my eating style. I have gotten to the point that any deviation from it causes me to fall apart.

Eating "clean" as they call it now, takes work, time, and preparation, but it works…so now I will just make sure I have time in the morning for my prison food, or else!!

 

Exercise Variations for Different Muscle Targets

LUNGE, never let your knees pass your toes:

More Quadriceps: Keep your feet closer together (taking a shorter step, front foot lines up with your other knee)

More Glutes: Take a longer step forward, both knees should be bent at a 45 degree angle. (offset your step if you are having problems with balance)

SQUAT ( keep your head up, looking forward, abdominals tight through the entire movement):

More Quadriceps: Barbell in front of you, overhand grip, elbows high in front of you.

More Glutes: Bar behind you, across your traps.

BRIDGE:

More Hamstrings: Dig you heels into the ground, toes up.

More glutes: Heels up, dig your toes in. 

STEP-UP:

More glutes:  Stand farther from the bench , push off with your leg straight

More quadriceps: Step closer to the bench, push through your bent leg. Can also use a higher bench.

CRUNCH( on a stability ball):

More upper abs: Hold at the top of the movement and pulse 10-15 reps. Can also use a weight plate or medicine ball.

More obliques: Hold elbows high, fingers resting on temples, alternate elbow to opposite knee.

Lower abs: Lie on your back on a bench, stability ball between your ankles, grasp the bench behind your head nad raise the ball to the ceiling by lifting your hips off the bench as your spine rolls up. slowly lower back to start.

Fat loss and not sure how I feel about it…

So I am losing fat and even dropped a whole size…cup size! Now don’t get me wrong, I was never winning any Dolly Parton look-a-like contests and didn’t want to anyway. Having giant ones would just get in the way of my golf swing and make me a spectacle on the treadmill, BUT not crazy about the fact of them going away all together…so to speak..

Oh, I could have them if I wanted to blow 8-10 grand!  You can’t sneeze on this site without hitting some silicone or saline and I’m not judging anyone.  For the ladies that compete, it is probably a plus if not a must..must..must increase my…  sorry couldn’t resist!

But going under the knife is not for me, I will just buy smaller bras and deal with it, least I can still work on my cleavage…pec style!!

Recipe for Flaxseed Muffins

Flaxseed, wheat, and bran muffins

High fiber, healthy breakfast muffin

INGREDIENTS
1 C.flaxseed ground
1 C whole wheat flour
1 C. Oat Bran
1 C. Brown sugar
2 tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp Baking Powder
1/2 tsp salt
2 tbsp. Cinnamon
1 1/2 C. shredded Carrots
2-3 Apples, cored and chopped up or shredded
1/2 C. Chopped nuts (optional)
1/2 c. Raisins (optional)
3/4 C. 2 % milk
2 Eggs, beaten
1 tsp. Vanilla

DIRECTIONS
Mix flour, flaxseed, bran, sugar and dry ingredients together. Shred carrots and apples and add these along with optional raisins and nuts to dry ingredients. Mix well. Stir together milk eggs and vanilla and stir this into batter until well moistened. Fill cupcake papers until 3.4 full and bake at 350* for 20 to 25 minutes.
Makes 24 med muffins.
( freeze them in ziplock bag, then just pull one out each morning and will be ready to eat 20 minutes later on the way to work! )

Using a new website

I recently met with a nutritionist, Dawn Weatherwax-Fall at www.sn2g.com.  It was very informative and I learned a lot about what I was doing wrong and what I need to improve on with my new goals. She gave me a new website to track my meals and see where my calories are going. The website is www.nutrihand.com and you can sign up for free or pay a small monthly fee to have greater use of the tools and resources. Meeting with Dawn really helped me with my lack of energy and helped me sort out the whole supplement topic. She has a Bodpod in her facility that gave me my bodyfat/lean mass ratios.  Money well-spent!!
