Too Smooth…

Tuesday, October 6th, 2009

NO I’m not talking about a move I just made on the dance floor, or the kind if you’re single and are trying to pick up the ladies…I’m talking about NOT lean enough for the show. I did it, I knew it, but that was it, that was the way I was going in to this show.

Early this year I lost over three months of training to a hernia and also lost all the size I had worked so hard to put on since last October. I had really made some great gains during that bulking phase until the hernia.

Once I was able to train again I started working, and I do mean WORKING…. pounding the weights, eating clean food, taking my vitamins & minerals, protein powders, supplements, etc to put back on all the size I had lost during the time I couldn’t train. As the days grew closer to showtime & I was getting leaner, I could see I wasn’t going to be lean enough. But did I want to start sacrificing muscle to get leaner? I knew that If I hit it hard enough to fully lean out for the show I’d be giving up some of the hard earned muscle I had worked to put back on. There just wasn’t enough time.

Well to make a long story short, I came in bigger than last year, with even better symetry, but I just wasn’t lean enough. This was the first time ever I had not made the final call out. It was a hard thing to swallow, but I made the decision and now had to live with it.

Being the supreme optimist that I am, I just took that finish and said " It will NEVER happen again." Yesterday was day #1 for the spring show in Vancouver. The same show I won in 2008. So now it’s time to get busy, get back to building, and when cut time comes, I’ll get started and go all the way…. I WILL be super lean at the next show and every other show from here on out.

I can’t thank all my supporters out there enough. I’ve gotten tons of encouragement from everyone on this site, as well as all my clients and friends at he gym and work. 2010 will be a new year that I am so looking forward to. Again thanks to everyone, and in the upcoming months I hope to show you great progress.

Thank you everyone….

Post Op Visit

Sunday, April 26th, 2009

Well, I’m done seeing the Doc. He’s given me the OK to start cardio, so yesterday I did my first hour on the treadmill. I’ll start the bike later this week. I can’t put much tension on it, but if I can ride without pushing hard, it will allow me to start teaching my classes again. Yeah… I really miss not getting to push my clients to help them reach their goals.

Good news though, since I can’t lift my wife has inlisted my services to start training her. She now knows what INTENSITY is all about. It helps her to appreciate all the work I go thru, and the reason I’m so spent directly after finishing a workout, and why I HAVE to eat…

By this time next week I’ll be sitting on a beach in Florida with my wife, son, daughter in law and of course our precious grand daughter… A week of fun, sun, DisneyWorld, and just enjoying family time together.

It’s all good, and I’m so looking forward to when I can start lifting again.

Hernia Update 4/23/09

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

One Week and One day after surgery. I got to drive today, yeah…. Doc wouldn’t let me drive for a week, sorry but it sucks having to get chaufered around everywhere. And everything I CAN’T do, it will just about drive a guy nuts… But I’m following the Doc’s rules to a tee… So when he says "GO" I’ll be primed and ready.

I go in to see him tomorrow for my post op summery. Hopefully he’ll tell me I can at least start doing cardio. With no lifting till June, I’m going to have to lean out now, get close and then hold that condition, build for two months, then continue to diet down for the final 8 weeks up to compitition. Oct. 3rd is the Washington State IronMan and I plan on competing and coming in even better than last year. Not sure if I can do it with this little of time, but I’m sure going for it.

Well, I’ll let you know how it goes after the Doc visit tomorrow. Keep it real and remember Consistancy is the KEY….

1 Day After Surgery

Thursday, April 16th, 2009

Well, operation went fine yesterday. I did teach my last cardio class the night before, so I’m guessing that’s why my weight was as low as it was. ( guess I hadn’t fully hydrated back yet. ) Morning of surgery weighed in at 198.8. That’s the first time in 09 that I’ve been under 200lbs. This morning ( day after surgery ) I weighed 205.8….What’s that all about???Is that mesh they put in made of IRON???? I don’t know if it’s all the fluids or what, but it will be interesting to see what I weigh tomorrow morning. I did take a final set up pics to post as pre-op pics. You can see I had already lost some size in the 2 1/2 weeks that I hadn’t lifted. But did lean out a bit as I was able to do cardio.

Pre-Op status

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

This is the Sunday before my hernia surgury. It’s been two weeks since I’ve been able to lift. Have still be doing cardio, but no lifting. Weight is down to 201. Wednesday is my surgury and I’ve been told it will be six weeks after that before I can lift again. I’m somewhat concerned about the amount of lean mass I’ll loose during that time. I’ll continue to eat clean, and do cardio as soon as possible after operation. But I’m looking at approx June 1st before I’ll be able to start lifting again. Not sure how this will effect my October contest, but we’ll just have to cross that bridge when we get there. That would realisticly only give me a month to six weeks to add mass back on before having to start diet for contest. Any imput on keeping as much lean mass would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone.
