Won the Miss Physique section!

November 5, 2008

How thrilled am I? I won the Miss physique section of the contest I entered. My sons and husband were in the audience to cheer me on and give me some support. I felt wonderful onstage posing, although I looked much better at the judging than I did at the evening show. It was the week after my 53rd birthday.  I did not pig out afterwards, I just stuck to my normal healthy diet. I had two weeks off the heavy training but now I am back on the heavy weights and light cardio to try and build some more muscle size whilst keeping my body fat going down.  Thanks to all for your encouragement and good wishes. This has spurred me on to even greater things and there is no end of motivation in the gym for me.

Starting to feel contest ready!

August 21, 2008

I am starting to feel contest ready at seven weeks out from my competition. I am training hard and fast in the gym, and the diet is working great. I work out for seven continuous days this week, then have the following week completely off the gym . I will be doing body conditioning , posing and cardio every day of that week, but no weights. All part of the big plan.

When I go back after the break I hit the weights hard on a new  programme. It will kill me but get me ripped for the contest. Watch this space!

Can’t believe how fast the time is passing!

August 8, 2008

I can’t believe that I will be only nine weeks from the contest on Saturday. The time has flown. What with working nights with our rock and roll show, training five mornings a week at the gym and a generally busy life then it has been a hectic summer.

The training and diet are going well for me. I am carb cycling, with four very low days and one refeed. It works for me and I am seeing amazing changes to my body, as well as losing body fat the muscle looks full and hard still. Good at this stage after dieting for so long.

I am really enjoying being a bodybuilder this time, there is something very enjoyable about being a very muscular 52 year old female.

Eleven weeks to go on contest countdown

July 25, 2008

It is eleven weeks tomorrow to my contest in Doncaster. We have managed to book return ticket to fly over to the uk from Greece. I feel very excited about the contest and not nervous.

Things have been going very well with the contest diet. I have been carb cycling and it has worked very well for me. I haven’t been hungry, haven’t been bored and haven’t been tired on the diet. I am actually enjoying it!

The training is also going well. I moved onto my new programme and it really is a killer. last week my legs and shoulders were so sore that I could not go to the kickboxing class. Instead I went to the gym and tried to ease off some of the soreness and stiffness from the previous days of training. It worked. I swam a couple of times over the weekend and went dancing.

The new advances in training knowledge and nutrition have really helped me get to where I want to be. My bodyweight and bodyfat levels are still falling steadily. I am currently at the ideal weight for my height, but will be going lower for the contest. After the contest I am stepping up the kickboxing classes and will continue training hard for more muscle but I will be around the weight I am now. I feel superb.

Never thought it would be this good…

July 11, 2008

Five months into my training, and six weeks into my pre contest cutting diet, and things are looking great. I have been following the Burn the fat, feed the muscle diet plan, a killer workout schedule at my gym and extra cardio, with kickboxing now twice a week.

A few days ago I was discussing my new programme plan with my coach. I want to hit my quads hard and have more definition in my legs I told him. Are you sure he asked, and he laughed. I asked why he was laughing and he told me I would see in a couple of days.

I did see what he meant in a couple of days. All my leg muscles are now clearly defined with deep cuts appearing between seperate muscles, and striations beginning in my glutes. Striations?  Thirteen weeks out from my first contest for 23 years? Amazing.

I am thrilled with how I look. I am keeping the muscle I built before I started cutting and I am now looking very defined. Its very strange to look more muscular when your body fat is going down, but that is how it works.

I am taking it surely and slowly with the cutting diet, I had problems before with dieting too hard and losing the muscle, but not this time. I have chosen some posing music, have the new bikini and will start to practise posing soon.

An experienced competitive bodybuilder who is also a friend is going to push me through my workout for the last six weeks and help me with the posing. 23 years is a long time to be off the bodybuilding stage, but all I want is to be up there looking awesome.

The plastic trophy does not matter - I will take my body home for keeps….

Just entered my first contest for 23 years!

June 27, 2008

I have just confirmed my entry to a bodybuilding contest in the UK in October. It will be my first for 23 years…

Do I feel ready to pose in a tiny bikini in front of hundreds of people at the age of 52? You bet I do.

I have left it till now to judge just how I look and how the diet and training are working. They are working better than I could have dreamed of. I will tweak them as the contest draws nearer, but at the moment they are working really well for me.  I am nearing contest shape and the contest is over 15 weeks away. I am more muscular than I have ever been before and the bodyfat is leaving me at last. I am starting to look leaner and all my abs are showing.  I am managing to retain muscle while losing bodyfat. Thanks to everyone for your support, it has really helped me achieve my goals and kept up my motivation.

It’s working!

June 21, 2008

Three days ago my coach at the gym suddenly came over to me and said "Whatever you are doing, don’t stop it or change it, just carry on as you are, training and dieting"

I just carried on training, but when I asked him later he just said "Wait a few days and you will see."

This morning I can see what he saw three days ago. The pre contest diet and training schedule are working in synergy together, and I am starting to look very defined -all over- and for the first time ever all the muscle is showing in all body parts evenly. For the first time in my life I have a clear set of six pack abs which do not need tensing to show.

In the past I always panicked and dieted too hard, and lost most of the muscle I had worked so hard to gain. This time I look as muscular as I want to look, the body fat is leaving at a steady rate and I look the best I have ever looked. I still have till mid October before the contest takes place. At this rate I am going to look awesome….

Had a bad day- but still sticking with it…

June 14, 2008

Had a really tough day today, believe it or not on my day off the gym! Don’t know whether it is lack of carbs (on a low day of a four day low, low, low , high cycle) or just being tired and aching from overworking but I have found it hard going today doing anything or trying to think positive….

Sods law that everyone is stopping me and commenting on how healthy and slim I look!

I work a four day split on weights with extra cardio each day, and go to kickboxing once or twice a week. Last night I did extra weights at the gym before the kickboxing. Hard work, but I loved every minute of it.

My husband treated me to a surprise supper out and I stuck to the precontest diet. We then went down to see our friends who run bars and I managed to get extra work for next week. The money will come in very handy for us! We do a rock and roll show with karaoke and I also perform as Tina Turner (albeit a muscular one now!).

Still, we are going out tonight for a break, although I will be sticking to water as usual. I can still have fun without a drink. Come to think of  it, writing this has really made me feel better, and I am eager to get back to the gym on Monday morning…. Thanks guys!

Time to be brave!

May 5, 2008

I have been afraid of having my photo taken for so long, but here goes. At 52 it is a scarey thing to do! I am 12 weeks into training and 10 kg lighter than before. I am pleased with my progress so far, and have a long way to go. Off to the beach to get a tan….
