Crap Pushers Letter

I thought I had this posted here, but I didn’t so here it is…  I wrote this after having many experiences over the years with all sorts of people trying to get me to eat their crap.  Coworkers, family members, and neighbors are the worst.  And the letter is not directed towards anyone who just politely offers something nice to eat,… people will always be offering food and it’s just customary.  It is directed to the people who don’t accept a polite ‘no thank you’ and they keep pushing and pushing and questioning your choices :)

Hello There!

Were you trying to push someone who has taken on the challenge of a fitness goal,  into eating some crap?   This person has set out on a mission to get herself in the best shape of her life. This requires eating some food that doesn’t taste as great as what you are offering  and it is very difficult and challenging to say no. It is a very very difficult sacrifice to make in  giving up all the more delicious tasting foods in pursuit of a fit body and it becomes even more difficult when people like you constantly question what she is eating and and keep offering her more crappy food to eat. The crappy food you are offering may taste so delicious but the very sad and unfortunate truth is that it makes our  bodies look like total shit. I wish it weren’t the case, but it is true.

Even if this person doesn’t need to lose any weight, the crappy food will STILL make her/his body look like shit so it’s not only  about gaining or losing weight, it’s about staying fit.   Here is a person  trying to accomplish a very difficult goal of getting and staying in great shape, and you come along and try to throw her/him off course. How about giving her a little support instead ? This process is very challenging.

If you want to eat  crap  go right ahead,.. we all make our own choices but there is no need to try and drag others down with you.   Or maybe you just don’t realize that eating crap makes you look like crap (many people don’t know that) and you think it is just genetics or aging that causes us to  have dangling lard all over our bodies?   It doesn’t have to be that way.    Start eating right as well, and you will soon see how nice you will start to look and feel and you will see that it is worth giving up the crap.   There is no doubt that it SUCKS saying no all the time to the pizzas, the cookies, the cakes, the ice cream and such. It really does SUCK.

As delicious as all the crappy foods can be,   they don’t come close to being as fun as it is to walk around in a lean, hard, tight body and look good in any piece of clothing. The right food  will give you this look and feeling…foods such as plain chicken, oatmeal, fish, and vegetables. It’s a hard pill to swallow in giving up all the goodies  but once you accept the facts you can make the best of it. How would you like to go clothes shopping and have everything look good on you? It is completely possible if you’ll stop eating all the crap and make the right choices each day.

So there you have it. That is why you were reported  as a “crap pusher”.      Eating right and exercising is very hard work but very worthwhile mission and you are welcome to join in on the ‘fun’!   If you don’t want to, no big deal but please stop pushing the crap on others and just keep it to yourself.

Should should be ammended into the constitution. Might as well w/ the rise in child hood obesity. You’re my rockstar, CT!

  2. Prettyboy1 Says:

Good stuff. You know what I really hate even more than this though? People who preach fitness, but then you you see that they are fat people eating pizza, sitting behind a computer all day!

I know a few, and they irritate me!

  3. TriFitSteph Says:

This is applicable to pretty much all the good habits people try to maintain and others try to steer you away from, like not drinking or getting a decent amount of sleep in or anything else. People who push their crap bug me hell out of me!!!

  4. crg39 Says:

My friend CSullivan and I have printed your "Crap Pushers" letter and given it to some of the people we love who INSIST that we try their home made "goodies". At first they are kinda stunned but it does seem to work. They have at least slowed down trying. Thanks for the tool and all the inspiration you give everyone.

  5. Jahzeel Says:

    Hi,

    OMG, you look amazing

    how do you do it?

  6. MilesJ Says:

    Great post, CT!

  7. luis_mofo Says:

Spot on, spot on again CB.
By the by, I am a fan of your blogs, I’ve red them a few times for inspiration and ideas. I am currently trying to lean out for the summer on guess what: chicken and tuna.
    All the best.
    Luis.

  8. luis_mofo Says:

    I mean CT, sorry.

  9. MarkusWolf Says:

I hear you on the crap food pushing. As the offspring of German immigrants, I come from a long line of crap pushers. Lots of lard and sausage in my youth, with demands to eat until I was in pain and ready to spit like an over-ripe melon! If I refused to gorge there was wailing from Grandma and Mom and shouting from Dad. Refusing food was equating with rejection of love. It wasn’t just my family, the whole community was like that. When I moved away and learned what healthy food was, I lost 20 lbs within a couple of years. But you are right, most people find it easier to judge anyone focused on fitness as "nuts" rather than take a hard look at their own habits. One thing I notice that works is to tell the old ladies pushing cookies at you that you are allergic to wheat and processed sugar. They’ll wrinkle up their nose like they don’t believe you, but it shuts them up faster!

  10. KUJoe Says:

This is a great post!! I grew up in the same family/community as MarkusWolf! Cookies and ice cream were rewards for being good and working hard.
My big thing is how terrible and weak I feel after eating crappy food. That’s what motivates me!

  11. PenteKing Says:

CT, although you and I have never met in person, we have traded enough correspondence to the point where I feel as though we are friends. I like having you in my life because it’s motivational posts like this that keep me on the straight and narrow.
    You are my inspiration.

  12. curt_james Says:

Read this over on Bunklers, but it’s well worth a second, third, fourth read. And more!

  13. mistycloud Says:

Thanks! I am not huge and in clothes look fine to the common eye. But the important part is I see myself as unsatisfactory. I want to be happy with myself I am not worried about everyone else. When I try to eat good some might say I have eating disorder or distorted self image and I start to feel guilty and fall into the cake and cookies. They have the image distortion if they think body lbs= fit. IT DOESN’T!!

  14. michael Says:

well put ct. u can tune a piano but u cant tuna fish. i dont know what that means but everytime my friends talk smack and try to get me to eat crap i just poke them in the eye with one of my abs. ;) do u eat tuna in a can while cutting or too much sodium. i would not eat it later in a cutting diet but how about early on. say first six weeks or so.

  15. gixxerchick Says:

here here CT!!! This leter is nw printed out nd put on my desk at wor for ‘those’ morning teas we have where I sit there happily eating my diet jelly (oops I mean low-joule jello in america that is!)

  16. DoinIt Says:

You are amazing! I get crap pushed my way most days. My whole life I have let people push it into my face, and ive taken the bait… but no more. I love seeing all of the transformations here. It is so encouraging to know that I am not alone. I am four weeks into this new lifestyle and have lost 6 1/2 inches!!! I feel great and its really thanks to people like you! WOW!

  17. sixzebra Says:

I’m considering printing this out and posting it at work!

  18. kundeleni Says:

Would have had to have your letter when my husband offered me an eclair. heh heh…

    Eleni

  19. armoured_amazon Says:

So true! ‘Allergies’ are always the best excuse to say No. If I say I’m dieting, people always exclaim "you don’t need to be on a diet!" like weight reduction to be a skinny minny is the only reason to eat well.

  20. davies2 Says:

Thank you for writing this. I get so frustrated sometimes and I crack under their pressure b/c otherwise i feel ostracized. It gets to the point where i have almost wanted to cry before b/c my dad will make fun of me for ordering a salad or a friend will call me anorexic or something. I know it is out of jealousy tho. They are just about ready to sit down and chow down a greasy fatty burger and then they look at you and feel guilty, and its like you ruined their experience or something. they take their shame and displace it on you…

  21. cr4zyh3ad Says:

    Thanks alot for this !!

  22. duhbullu Says:

    i f-ing love you.

  23. trailbreaker Says:

This is so true CT!! You are such a BADASS!!

  24. CatchaFire Says:

Too True! Thank you for your letter. Some people came straight to my mind. Friends that barbecue think I’m strange because I won’t have one of their hot dogs like I’m unAmerican or something. My inlaws take offense because I won’t have any white french bread at their dinners and don’t have seconds of the main course. I’m working on losing the fat from when I used to have seconds, and white bread, etc. Don’t try and drag me back.

  25. cfit82 Says:

I so know what you mean. I have never been what you would call "fat". I have been chubby and skinny fat, but never fat fat. And ever time I infom people I am watching what I eat, they practically accuse me of having anorexia!!! It’s like, if I am not willing to be ignorant and allow myself to get fat and sloppy, I have a problem.
They are the ones with the problem. They are thretend by your doing something different, it make them question what they are doing, and by turning them down, they feel that you are telling them what they are doing is wrong.
I just continue eating my salad with fruit with 4 ozs of lean meat and a bit of oil, and feel good about the fact that I no longer give a crap what other people think.
    Good Letter!

  26. JWunder Says:

amen! you took the words right out of my mouth :)

  27. AMD64 Says:

Hi CT I you are so right !

  28. fitnsgal Says:

I am sooo glad someone said it straight forward, it is so true.

  29. Kalia Says:

Thanks…this letter made me feel better because I love to eat and am constantly fighting not to. Love IT!

  30. senshine Says:

    loved the letter!

  31. runninmom Says:

I want to copy this letter and send it to 90 percent of the people I know…Thanks for the pick me up so I can keep up the good fight!!

  32. kasha Says:

it’s a conspiracy. they’re jealous of your willpower and want to bring you down to their level because it justifies their own bad behaviour.

    good luck CT.

  33. herod Says:

Australia is the obesity capital of the world now…per capita population…because crap food is cheap, easy to come by and takes no effort to prepare? Well I disagree that healthy food is expensive and hard to prepare….a tin of tuna, two slices of high fibre bread…some fresh tomatoe…and lettuce…..okay I know tuna isn’t everyone’s favourite….this is just an example….why is it so hard…further rant:::::::on the road it is easy to either take food with you prepared at home…or buy a wholemeal bread loaf, some low fat cheese and you’re away……buying Macca’s seems to be easier….

  34. jsmircich Says:

Beautiful. I bring in a cooler everyday and it took quite some time for people to understand. Now they offer and seem ok when I say no thanks. Now, if i could only get my family to get it ;)

  35. Torben Wiberg Says:

    Hi…

    great !!!

    Totally what I’m feeling!!

  38. robertterry Says:

lol you really belive in eating righ huh.

  39. Rachel Rigg Says:

Too true! I say ban junk and fast food!

  40. reverendx Says:

Agree So Much I love the way you put it. I it just that they want to drag a person down and keep them there with them. In a so called"comfort zone" I think.

  41. Decosta Says:

    Amen Sista :p.

IT’s the same with the booze pushers, go on have a drink. No thanks, 1) I’m driving 2) I can have fun without drinking and 3) Not a big fan of the taste.

But yes, I agree. It takes quite the strong character to say no to the constant pressure of crappy food.

  42. dp pares Says:

    so true, you rock!

  43. teresa martin Says:

this is GREAT! I am printing it out and giving it to everyone I work with!!!! thanks CT

  44. akuzyk75 Says:

I totally agree! My family and I were in Atlantic City for dinner and I had grilled chicken and steamed broccoli and my mom was telling me to splurge and I wouldn’t. She said yesterday that her burger wasn’t as good as she hoped it to be and didn’t feel good. The best feeling is that I made the right choice and fun events don’t have to revolve around food and you can still enjoy your time there.

  45. AspenSnowman Says:

I couldnt agree more with your "Crap Pushers" rant… I dont mind being offered food or being re-offered food too much, its when people (who mostly look terrible) start to judge my choices because they dont understand the lifestyle or my goals. The WORST is at happy hour with the guys and everyone is making fun of you for having a club soda instead of a cocktail. Or if everyone is ordering an appetizer, and you veto the nachos or queso dip, hahah! Anyway, I just wanted to get that off my chest. It doesnt bother me that much anymore, I’ve learned to use it as motivation and fuel for the journey. Besides, the tables always turn when you’re at the pool or on the beach…then the same people who constantly give you $hit are always asking advice when they see how ripped you are…kind of ironic, dont you think? Great original rant….I like it! -T-

i have my own blog can i use this article and reference you?

  49. sirlleemo Says:

This was a awesome post, and so very true.
Coming from the south eating a little of everything was always customary. If someone brings you a cake they baked you eat it, if there is a funeral you eat afterwards, its almost like everything revolves around eating. And its not till you make a life change from it that you notice how it affects you and those around you.
Thanks for this post i enjoyed.

  50. robinsonmi9906 Says:

I’d love to give this to my mom but I’m pretty sure she’d have a heart attack- thanks to eating crap :-P

  51. Andy Says:

You made several references to how eating well can make you "look great", but you said nothing about how eating healthy can actually make a person HEALTHIER!

  52. Jessiehen Says:

Awesome post, blew me away, it was like you were reading my mind! I find it so hard sometimes, being a police officer it is a major challenge fitting my meals into a busy day with overtime not to mention my work mates giving it to me about my tuna and veges, anyways thanks alot awesome post just what i needed to keep me going! Cheers

  55. Blacksterbmw Says:

I totally agree with you, it is a hard pill to swallow but thats what seperates us from them.

  56. KellyKel74 Says:

I love this letter! I have it posted in my house and also in my office. Beware of crap pushers- they’re EVERYWHERE!

  57. girl8 Says:

the worst is potlucks……I’m always showing up with a veggie tray now….I bring the veggie dip for the crap eaters that insist they "can’t eat it without ranch" blaaaaa what EV!!

but I eat um RAW!!! and UNTAMED!!!!

  58. Man_O Says:

You shoot the stuff straight and on target! I love it!

  59. KarenPhil Says:

I’m married to a crap pusher. I gained 40 lbs since being with him! One time he inhaled 5 double cheese burgers (I had none) & then promptly asked me why I let him & if I’m trying to kill him! So now I only cook healthy stuff & that seems to be working. Go figure.

  60. chinafleet Says:

I like your way of thinking chickentuna! I know exactly where your coming from, being in the navy- its sooo hard to steer clear of the ’stodgy food’ and alcohol but reading about people like you gives me great determination and just makes me work even harder to acheiving my goals so, thankyou!

  61. gerigineka Says:

You go girl!! love your comments on crap pushers…I personally think quite a few of those pushing crap on others is because they are jealous/envious and would love to see you down all that greasy, fat producing food! women especially can be very catty that way

Awesome Blog on Crap Pushers.! I am posting this on my wall at work. People there know I’m trying to get into the best shape of my life and they bring in Ice cream, Cupcakes , Pizza and then ask why I’m not eating it — I tell them why and I get the oh just have one, have a bite, take just a little.
Sometimes I feel as if they are trying to sabotage me!!

  64. My220x Says:

Thanks for the letter I may use it sometimes.

  65. theshoupguy Says:

    Amen to that, CT.
If only those crap pushers knew what it was like… *sigh*

  66. smiles1979 Says:

THANKS so much for posting this letter…it was funny to read b/c (as I’m sure I’m not the only one…) I have MANY ‘crap pushers’ in my life and just wanted to say, thanks! :D

    Keep going….! :D
Sorry to hear about your tuna incident too from your page..though it’s funny you have that incorporated in your screen name.’

You just hit the nail on the head- in my culture if u say no to food they take offence, its always been a battle with family but now iv become stubborn wonderwoman so they just have to get used to it- the pushers won’t live as long lol so maybe we may not have to put up with them for long !
    ur an inspiration…thanks :-)

  71. 1lizardjoe Says:

Good post CT!! I work in a office and the girls are nice but they are always bringing in crap and "pushing" it ,the sad part for me is that I give in alot. It would help though if I wasn’t tempted and it helps knowing that even though you are slammin, you still want to eat the crap too,Thanks

omg!! thank you soooo much!!! finally SOMEBODY understands the annoyance of having people trying to FORCEFEED u garbage!!! happens 24/7 to me when im around friends/family and YES neighbors can be terrible too!!! lol atleast theres a blog-site such as this one where we can all relate and vent about annoying occurrences such as these!!!

keep up the great work! you’re a true inspiration!!! :)

  74. aoginski Says:

Man that was awesome! You’re an inspiration. I’m so glad you wrote that, I might have my husband read it so he’ll stop offering me cookies and ice cream and buying pizza EVERY TIME I try to better myself. **** I think I’ll just print and put it on the frig.

  75. flbabyk Says:

Hahaaaaaa…. Yesss!! Preach it, sisterrrr!!! It’s really too bad that we are the "fortunate minority" who understand the body / food connection. Sadly, Americans are fed with messages that you can look great and still be a glutton. It’s really sad. Do you think that supermodel is really swallowing that cupcake she’s advertising? Hellllllllz noo!! I fought this concept for a long time, myself… believing that I could "have my cake, and eat it too", but everytime I did, the flab soon followed and all of a sudden I couldn’t fit into my jeans. Yes, acceptance that there is no shortcut, fat free potato chip, or magic cookie is the key… and there will always be pushers. (I prefer to call them haters, it makes it easier to stick to what I’m doing right) In order to look different from the mediocre bodies, you have to act different from the mediocre bodies. Great post! Oh, and this one’s for NC! Raise up ;) - Kristen from Fayetteville

I have so much trouble refusing food and i looove offerig food to people because my mom grew up durign teh pol pot regime where they had to steal food and food is like a luxury in my family and you are always eating and you should not refuse or you should always offer. This will help me alot with grocery shopping today. Thanks lil mogul in directing me to this.

Amen!Amen!Amen! Eat crap…feel like crap. Good thing I read this, I was thinking twice about ordering a baconator! Your blog saved me

  79. cocoagoddess Says:

OMG! You are SOOOOOO right! For a few years everyone thought I was crazy for being really annoyed about this. I was beginning to think I was too, but now I see I’m not alone.

I was really fit about 4 years ago and I took a new corporate job. Ugh…the "Donut Fridays" ("the Donuts are here!"), QE close and ordering dinner in, being singled out cause I didn’t attend happy hours, people picking at my plate and my food becoming a fkn discussion topic for the lunch hour. Geesh! I found women to do it moreso than men in my experience. But I did date a guy that incessently picked at my food too. Since he wasn’t a coworker I ripped him a new one. Ugh! Like you said, I wasn’t annoyed at people offering food to me, it was the persistent questioning and bashing. All of a sudden everybody’s a fkn’ nutritionist critiquing MY blackened salmon over their damn deep-fried donut. I guess I could take advice from a fit person, but even then, I just don’t think that type of unsolicited advice is appropriate in that forum. That’s like me telling someone, "Now, you know how much saturated fat is in that ice cream cone?". I didn’t know I was making a statement with my little ole boiled chicken and cabbage. Just wanna eat, man.
It would be different if I walked around and told them how unhealthy their hot dog was or greasy pizza was, or if I got on them about going to the vending machine 8 times a day and stampeding down the halls for leftover birthday cake. But I didn’t, I don’t and I won’t. It’s their life and their choice.
OH OH and the kicker for me is people like this try to sound so "sincerely concerned" as if I’m anorexic or bulemic or something. I feel like saying, "Pay my rent. Pay my car note. Pay my student loans off. That’s a VERY real problem in my life everytime I’ve got to pay that ****. Still concerned?"
I know I’m ranting, but you really tapped on something that is so irritating to me personally.

Food is the center of a lot of people’s lives across cultures–a beautiful thing, I love food– get it. I guess the problem is that most have gotten to the point where people live to eat instead of eating to live. Especially in this country. I lived in Europe for 3 months and I could spot other Americans a mile away cause we are generally loud and fat. Not many countries eat as excessively as we do. Even in Italy, where carbs and gelato are king, you take what you are going to eat and keep coming back til you are full. Coming from personal experience, the crap in the food these days makes people feel lathargic and sedintary which in turn makes them fat.

The only thing I can really come up with to explain this odd behavior is that somehow my healthy choices magnified their unhealthy choices to them. Instead of asking out of curiosity about my plate, they’d rather go on and on bashing my plate and justifying theirs because they are unhappy about their life.

Bottom line: People like that are full of ****–literally–and they know it. That’s why they have the need to keep reiterating their unsolicited, substanceless, opinions. I know I’m getting way too deep on this subject, but this is a phenomenon to me.

Luckily, my family has always been supportive for me, but for people out there with loved ones doing this, I’ve found confronting them about it on the spot very helpful. Explain to them how important your lifestyle change is to you. Most don’t really know how serious it is to you or how hard it is for you. Most don’t know how they come off either. However, if they don’t get it, then **** ‘em.

Anyways, thanks for blogging about this. Seeing as there are 80+ comments on this, it’s just good to know that I’m not in the Twilight Zone.

    Deuces!

  83. MichaelRS Says:

    Right on.
What else is there to say?

  84. littlesimone Says:

The most frustrating crap pushers, I think, are the ones within ones own family! So-called well-meaning people that just want to offer you a little taste of what you’re missing as though that’s going to help you in some way. What it truly comes down to is that crap pushers can’t stand people that make healthy choices so they have to derail them in order to feel good about themselves. For people like me that have sworn off sugar because, let’s face it, it’s POISON, it can be downright evil to have someone in my face saying, "Come on…just one. One won’t hurt!" Seriously! When that happens my response is, "Would you say that to a heroin addict Come on…just one hit. One hit won’t hurt!" Crap pushers ARE crap personified. Good on ya!!

  85. cmcgarity13 Says:

Guys are just as bad at this. I work with some F’ing FAT guys that are just one or to HoHo’s away from a massive heart attack. I try to clue them in but they just pick and make fun. I think for now it is because I am just getting started but they’ll see. Then who will have the last FU. Congrats on all your hard work.

  86. Carerman Says:

I think that people who are not real happy with their own appearance tend to do this alot. I think that in some cases they just need it put to them like that. I would have to agree that guys are also guilty of doing this and they aren’t going to get off easy. I think that we all need to come together to curb these "pushers" to be pushing themselves to the gym
