On The Road Again….
August 23, 2009Well, here I am again; Somewhere, Iraq. Here for another year with the mighty 3-73 CAV, 82nd Airborne Division. Not much has changed, except I think that sand dune use to be a little more to the right…just kidding.
Last deployment I decided to start a profile here on BB.com. I weighed 235 lbs due to lack of real physical exercise from a knee injury that I sustained on an Airborne Operation just before the deployment. That was back in 2006. As I kept my profile updated with progress pics and encouragement from my friends here on BB, I went from the flabby 235 to 217 when I redeployed back to Ft Bragg, NC in July 2008. Once I got home, to my own disappointment, I stopped posting and lost touch with my BB friends. To you all, I am truly sorry.
If you have looked at my profile, the only thing that I have updated is my weight chart. I have gone from 217 lbs to 188lbs as of Aug 2009. How did that happen? With the inspiration of my wife’s success, I became a paying member of WeightWatchers. That was on 3 January 2009. Since starting that, I have dropped 29 lbs. My activity level has increased considerably and my knee problems have practically ceased. I still have some arthritis in them, but I think that is mostly from jumping out of aircraft for the last 14 yrs of my Army career.
My goal this deployment is to continue losing weight using the principles I learned in WeightWatchers and continuing my workout regimne that I started. I’m not lifting like I did last deployment as that was part of my weight gain problem. I will be keeping myself slim and trim using the TRX system, crossfit and other various cardio workouts. There will be some weightlifting, but mostly to increase strength and endurance.
So, with all of that, I am ready to start this journey. I have my rucksack full of tools and my mind full of knowledge to make it over the mountain. If you are wondering, I will get the rest of my profile updated as I get settled in my new Iraq home; progress pics, measurements, etc. Hope you visit from time to time to see how I’m doing and all advice and encouragement are welcomed.
