New low…bodyfat wise!

Friday, August 31st, 2007

I am happy to say that with a lot of hard work, dedication and discipline along with continued support and a lot of comments that were both positive and reinforcing from everyone I have met here at Bodybuilding.com I am now down to 7.6% bodyfat.

Energized and helped my wife.

Saturday, August 18th, 2007

My wife has Lupus. She spent a long time being bounced from one doctor to the next and from one specialist to the next, being poked and prodded and having blood test after blood test taken and receiving almost every diagnosis under the sun. These diagnoses ranged from the flu all the way through the gamut up to and including, it’s all in your head and my personal favourite, “you are making it all up!” Finally after 2 whole years of these kinds of tests and comments she was finally and decisively diagnosed with Systemic Lupus and Fibromyalgia and told that she would have these diseases for the rest of her life.

It was an enormous blow as she had always been active and here she was barely able to get out of bed, having extremely painful joints and muscles, migraine type headaches and severe exhaustion. She would actually sleep for 12 hours at night and for at least 5 to 6 hours during the day and never felt rested. She was told that exercise would help but let’s face it; going to the gym was the furthest thing from her mind.

To make a long story short she ended up taking the Body for Life Challenge and you can read her story and see her amazing transformation here at Bodybuilding.com on her bodyspace at judimax but what I wanted to get to was the fantastic results she experienced by taking a supplement from Beverly International called Ultra 40.

As I wrote before, she was always tired and run down and had basically zero energy and even after getting into the best physical shape of her life she still had to fight through energy sapping fatigue. This continued until one day after I, being from the old school and relying on some old school methods found and ordered some desiccated liver tablets from Beverly International.  Older bodybuilders for years would swear by these pills and so I thought that I would give them a try and see how they might assist me in my quest for fitness. My wife seeing me taking them enquired about them and when I mentioned that they were a great form of vitamin B12 she asked if she could give them a try. Soon after taking them she started to experience more energy but we put that down to her diet and better weather and a couple of the supplements that she had been taking. After a while even though I had ordered more from the Bodybuilding.com store they did not arrive in time due to Canada Post and Canada Customs playing their usual make me wait game and we ran out, which meant that my wife had to stop having them in her diet. Within 4 days she started to feel lethargic and fatigued again but this time even more so than for the last while, and had a lot of trouble just finding the energy to go to the gym.

Then my order arrived and she started adding Ultra 40 to her diet again and within 3 days was feeling more energetic than she had since they had ran out. We analyzed what she had stopped taking and what she had added to her diet and it was only the Ultra 40 that stopped when she became fatigued and only Ultra 40 was added when she became more energized.

I just thought that I would share my wife’s story just in case you or someone you know could benefit from this supplement.

I will add my experience with Ultra 40 in due time but for now I wanted you to see what a difference they made to one woman who didn’t expect anything from them and got so very much.

I have included a description of and stories about Ultra 40 and you can all make up your own mind if you think that they could work for you.

Desiccated Liver

Everyone’s looking for an edge. Knowing about protein and aminos is common knowledge, but there’s another equally powerful, although less popular supplement, known as desiccated liver – and what is amazing is that strength, size, and endurance all typically increase after bodybuilders started adding a quality desiccated liver supplement to their diet. Liver tablets have been a mainstay of bodybuilding almost as long as the sport itself has existed. Stories from the old timers are filled with examples of phenomenal gains they made on liver tablets. This is still one of the most potent training aids a bodybuilder can use.
In 1951 Dr. B.H. Ershoff took three groups of lab rats and fed them controlled diets for a twelve-week period. Group one ate a basic diet fortified with vitamins and minerals. Group two ate as much as they wanted of the same diet plus B vitamins and brewer’s yeast. Group three ate the basic diet but had 10% desiccated liver added to their rations. Then the doctor placed the rats one by one into a drum of water, out of which they could not climb. Therefore, it was either swim or drown. The rats in group one swam an average of 13.2 minutes, Group Two, an average of 13.4 minutes. Two hours later when the experiment finally was concluded…Group Three rats were still swimming! Group 3 swam 10 times as long! No other supplement has even come close to liver for improving endurance. Over the years the reports of people whose strength, muscle mass and endurance have gone way up by using desiccated liver are countless.
Not all desiccated liver is what it says it is. When Beverly International set out to formulate their liver supplement, Ultra 40, they wanted to improve upon an already proven winner. They started with the “best of the best,” the highest grade AAA purified Argentinean liver concentrate. This was because the Argentine government does not allow their beef herds to be contaminated with DES steroids, growth hormone or pesticides. Back before steroids, bodybuilders were taking 7.5 or 10-grain tablets and swallowing 1000 tablets a week was very common, that’s over a 100 per a day! So they decided that the next logical move was to use technology to increase the potency packed into every tablet, because no-one wants to swallow 100 pills a day. Then they worked until they had a formula that contains only trace amounts of fat and cholesterol. What they created had forty five (45) times the nutritional value of whole beef liver and all the nutrients and enzymes of raw liver, plus all the essential amino acids to pack on muscle, but none of the toxins or fats found in whole beef, the natural protein source that serious bodybuilders relied on to build their bodies.
Ultra 40 is a first class source of utilizable bodybuilding protein, but much more. In fact, one of sports nutritional experts, Dr. Eric Serrano M.D., refers to it as “the world’s most perfect food.” From a supplemental standpoint, even the best food chemists in the world can’t duplicate the power of liver. A plethora of nutritional factors occur naturally in liver; high quality protein and amino acids, blood building heme iron (the form absorbed best by the body without toxic buildup) energy modulating B-vitamins including B-12 and Folic Acid, nucleic acids (RNA/ DNA) for proper amino acid utilization and cell growth, fat metabolizing lipotropics (choline and inositol), antioxidants Co Q10 and selenium, minerals such as phosphorous, copper, zinc, and GTF chromium (insulin regulator), anti-fatigue and growth factors such as cytochrome.
One of the reasons that Beverly International produces more bodybuilding champions is definitely the combination of taking Ultra 40 Tablets and Mass (our amino acid tablets) at each meal. The addition of only four Ultra 40 tablets and four Mass tablets per meal for five meals per day can make a tremendous difference in a person’s physique.
This simple-but-effective supplement program will add up to sixty-five grams of the highest quality protein to your daily intake. The addition of this protein at each meal can have a very positive effect on your hormonal response to eating (more muscle building and fat burning hormones; and less fat storing hormones are produced). Over three months time you will have ingested almost 6000 grams of additional protein, and 24,000 calories of the highest quality nutrients available. Since it takes approximately 3500 additional calories to gain one pound of bodyweight, dividing 24,000 by 3500 results in a net gain of approximately seven (7) pounds more than if you hadn’t taken the Ultra 40 and Mass. It’s no wonder Beverly clients who compete naturally are coming into their contests leaner, yet 5 - 10 pounds heavier than before taking Mass and Ultra 40!
These amounts allow you to take in tremendous amounts of protein and nutrients without
large amounts of food. You should build up gradually to this amount to avoid upsetting your digestion.
While desiccated liver is not considered the cure-all it once was by bodybuilders, it has proved time and again invaluable in breaking through those sticking points in your strength as well as contributing to improved energy flow on a restricted diet. In short, Ultra 40 delivers results.
You know to build muscle it’s imperative that you intensify your rep and set efforts in the
gym. But it’s truly the other 23 hours of nutrient loading outside the gym that determines whether or not you’ll make the gains you’re after. If you’re seriously interested in getting the most out of your training stick with the basics of good bodybuilding nutrition and that means taking Ultra 40.
You can check out Beverly International at their website at Bodybuildingworld.com and see why I believe they are the number one maker of bodybuilding supplements in the world.

Magic in a bottle.

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Why is it that everyone who starts lifting weights and working out, from the absolute rank beginners to folks who haven’t picked up anything heavier than the remote in ten years, all want to start using supplements the very first day? What ever happened to going a month or two to establish a baseline of your own pure strength before adding anything to the mix? I have had a number of clients lately (both men and women) and while a couple had worked out a number of years ago the others have never been inside of a gym before and they all to a person wanted to know what supplements to buy and how to use them and one even asked me about the benefits of stacking. I can’t believe what magazine advertising is doing to people, and it doesn’t matter their ages either. The people I had ask about the supplements ranged in ages from 18 to 57 and as I said before were both men and women. What I say to all of my clients is to lift and workout for a while “au natural,” so that we can get a good baseline reading of their abilities and then after that we can start talking about adding supplements. Also, if they want to have me as their trainer they can use only certain supplements and ones that I believe in and have either used and know they work or someone whom I trust has used them and states that they work. I am amazed at the way people throw money away on supplements thinking that they are going to produce amazing results all by themselves. Some people believe that by taking supplements they are going to get steroid-like growth without them breaking a sweat and they believe if they take steroids the results will start happening overnight and without them pushing themselves to their limits. What I say to each of those people who ask me about supplements and steroids is to take a look at the DVD’s that each of the top named bodybuilding pros are selling, especially Ronnie Coleman’s and see how much effort he puts into his workouts and how much weight he moves. Supplements don’t do the lifting and neither do the steroids. The enormous amount of weight being moved is being moved by the person and the steroids and the supplements help them recover and assist their muscles in repairing themselves and growing day by day but you gotta do a lot of grunting if you want to do a lot of growing. Ever since Jack traded his cow for some magic beans people have been popping pills as a way to get everything from Arnold’s body to the anti aging effects of the Fountain of Youth. Ah, the impressionable mind and magic in a bottle, where will it all end?

Bodyfat still going down.

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

Many times I find that a lot of my hard work and clean eating doesn’t show on the tape, the scale or the body fat analyzer and it can make me a bit disappointed. I did a bodyfat measurement today for the first time since changing my diet about a six weeks ago so that I do not eat any carbs other than some type of salad at supper or after and I was shocked to see that I am down almost 5%. That is the only change to my routine and that makes me really happy and I feel that I can push myself a bit more to try and reach about 5% overall bodyfat by the end of the year or maybe even sooner. I will continue to have my last carbs of the day at lunch and stll eat a protein supper with only a salad as my side dish making sure that I still have my cottage cheese as my late nioght snack and hopefully will still see the bodyfat going down.
