gyms, nutrition, and no sex

Monday, January 19th, 2009

German excitement continues! :)   The German gym is not really adequate, but I am able to make due.  There are only two sets of 20kg plates!  No one else in the gym has ever used them, apparently, so I’m a freakin’ weirdo.  I really do need to find a real gym.  Although, this one is free (and I can be cheap at times, especially with what it’s going to cost me to ship over any supplements from the states).

Anyway, the real issue is still nutrition.  It is very, very difficult to cook in our little kitchen.  Seriously - it’s two burners and we only have one tiny little pan to cook in.  It’s OK for some meals, but not really ideal when you want to make a big hunk of meat that will last multiple meals.  The good news is that the fruits and vegetables are plentiful here.  So we’ve got that going for us.

We are still desperately in need of an apartment.  How hard can it be to find a furnished place that accepts cats and has 2 bedrooms?  One would think not that difficult, but we’d also like it close to school for my son and close to stores for my wife.  I still wouldn’t think that would be too hard, but apparently no one is renting apartments in Germany right now.  ;)   So, we’re hotel bound for now.  Our hotel staff is awesome, but it royally sucks to sleep in the same room as your 3 year-old for a month.  It just ain’t right, I tell ya!

Well, it’s off to be for me.  I had a killer chest / back workout.  Eventually I’ll get around to logging it all in my journal, but you’ll have to take my word on it for now.

German gym

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

The first trip to a German gym went well yesterday!  It wasn’t terribly well equipped, but there was enough equipment to get the job done (at least A job done).  :)   The important thing here is that I am getting closer to where I want to be: excellent nutrition and impeccable workouts.  It’s sort of odd, really, that I can’t settle into a routine here completely because within a month we will (hopefully) be moving into a real apartment rather than living in a long-term stay hotel.  I sincerely hope we’ll be able to find something similar to the location where we are now.  We have 2 butchers and 2 supermarkets within a short walk.  The markets have lots of fresh fruits & veggies.  It’s really great!

One interesting note: still haven’t had a single beer here in Germany!  I’m sure I will soon, though.  Carb night will come soon enough! ;)
