German adventures begin!

Well, I made it to Germany!  OK, I’ve been here for 3 days now (2.5 really), but it feels like I am just arriving today.  I’m actually writing this while cooking my first real protein meal since arriving!!  I have been totally slacking on my nutrition and workouts.  Of course, I’m not really upset….

There is a reason for all of this.  While we were waiting for our plane to board on Wednesday, we decided to have some lunch at a cafe in the airport.  I ordered a chicken caesar and we ordered a pizza for my son (his last American pizza for awhile).  My wife decided she didn’t really want anything except maybe a taste of my salad.  Well, while I was getting my son situated with his meal, she tasted mine and decided she wanted the whole thing.  So, I split my son’s pizza and she ate the whole salad.  Lucky me, too.  It turns out that the salad had some nasties in it somewhere and my wife had food poisoning.  Please keep in mind she is also a Type 1 diabetic and we were hopping on a trans-Atlantic flight to move to a new country where she has never even visited.  Needless to say, the last days have been filled with a plethora of ugh and ick.  We even spent some time in the local Krankenhaus, which is an experience in itself.  Perhaps I’ll write more about that later.  Right now, my food is almost done.

Also, I was excited to find out that our temporary long-term (ie first month) hotel provides free access to a local gym.  On Monday, I’ll have to go check that out!!  I’m quite excited, assuming of course the hours are reasonable and acceptable for my schedule.  If they’re not, I already have another gym picked out within walking distance!!  Germany is getting better all the time….

Glad you arrived safely! I’m sure it won’t take you long to get back to your regular workouts.
