Really, I do like pain.  Not in a "hey, whip me harder baby" sort of way, but in a "was that thump the sound of my leg falling off from too many intervals" sort of way.  On a related note, I know my lats are still on my body because of the dull ache residing there from yesterday’s "I’m going to lift until I fail" workout.  Feels good in a semi-masochistic sort of way (see above).

I woke-up this AM to my alarm clock and enjoyed a solid session of flogging myself on my bike.  The temps in and around the D are much more congenial to running outside, but the rain (yes, rain) made what snow was still on the ground into a nice slushy, slippery mess.  So, no running outside.  I’m really looking forward to doing some interval work outside in teh spring, assuming spring is still coming.  ("Hi, Mom Nature, this is Jay and I put in an order for spring a few weeks ago.  Can you rush that please?")

Anyway, I had some Xtend pre/peri-workout today.  I spilled some on the floor when I was putting it in my water bottle.  Before I could wipe it up, I noticed the cat was inhaling it.  I’m not sure, but I thought I saw a rolled up dollar bill being used.  I was aghast, of course.  Now my cat is going to be all buff, too.  The only problem is, she’s an indoor cat and she has nothing to hunt.  That means she’ll be stealthily (is that a word?) hunting my nose while I sleep, waiting to pounce.  And being all buff, she’ll probably accidentally break it, meaning a trip to the ER where I’ll have to explain that my cat broke my nose while I was sleeping.  So, as a word of caution, be careful with your supplements.

OK, I did do a workout and feel like I should start adding those in here rather than just in my journal on the forums.  So, here it is:

  • 10min on TT bike @ AeT (HR: 132-137 BPM)
  • Intervals (work @ max / rest): 15s / 45s, 16/44, 17/43, 18/42, 19/41, 20/40, 19/41, 18/42, 17/43, 16/44, 15/45
  • 10min < AeT cooldown
  • don’t quit

It’s my 300th blog, so I’m going to dedicate this to all those waning New Year’s Resolutionists who are considering quitting.  Look, I know it’s tough.  You started a few weeks ago thinking you were really going to make a change this time.  You were excited about the new diet and the new gym membership.  You still don’t know how to use most of the equipment in the gym, but you’re learning.  You are grumpy a lot and always hungry.  The motivation is so low, you feel like quitting is really the best option.

Here’s what awaits you if you quit:  high blood pressure, a poor self-image, diabetes, lack of sex drive (seriously, do you want that to happen?), heart disease, renal issues, difficulty fitting into your clothes, having to buy two seats on an airplane for your vacation, public humiliation (hey, everyone knows you’re trying to lose weight), and the list continues.

Here’s what awaits you if you keep going: more energy, your tastes adjust and you actually like eating fruit & veggies, your body is all firm and sexy - your significant other will notice, you will have increased libido, your ability to focus will increase, you will have more confidence in any situation, and that list goes on and on.

Well, here’s the decision point.  What are you going to choose?  Do you really want to give up?  You know you chose a new lifestyle for a reason and that reason is still there.  You want a better you.  Remember that - it’s what you want.  Now follow through with it.  It does get easier as you move forward because it becomes habit.  You will get used to getting up early and eating right.  It does take patience and hard work, but you can do this.  Just stick with it.  You can quit if you want to and maybe no one will care.  But you will know the rest of your life.
