olympics
August 20, 2008Sometimes life just starts winding up and throwing knock-out punches. One choice is to give-up, admit your too tired, drop your hands and take it on the chin - kissing the mat seconds later. The other choice is to put your hands up, withstand the barage as life tires of trying to knock you down, and wait for that opportunity to strike your own knock-out blow. It’s just hard at times to see through all those punches coming at you. It’s difficult to believe that you can take whatever is being thrown at you - no matter how tough the opposition seems.
I imagine this is sort of what Lolo Jones is going through this morning. If you are under a rock and not watching the Olympics, you should know that Lolo is a dominant force in the 110m Women’s hurdles. She’s a bit cocky and a bit brash. It’s hard not to like her when you see the way she runs. Truely, it is beautiful. Last night she had the opportunity to win the gold in her event, but clipped her foot on the second-to-last hurdle and ended up not placing. It was awful to watch and your heart just sunk once you realized what happened. I, for one, will now be watching to see how she recovers from this. If she’s anything like I believe she is, she’ll be back in 4 years and win this event.
…..and on to more personal stuff. I did delts & traps today and LI cardio, of course. I would prefer to be doing some sprinting work, inspired by all those great athletes, but it isn’t in my program for now. Besides, I was never really a sprinter anyway.
