Gym all-stars: sexy grandma

Wednesday, April 30th, 2008

Today’s all-star is ‘Sexy Grandma’.  Is she a grandma?  Maybe, maybe not.  But she looks darn good.  Actually, we really don’t know how old she is - her body is pretty good looking but her face is fallen a little bit, so she could either be a worn 45 year old or an incredible 60 year old.  My workout partner and I were constantly amazed, since she was almost always at the gym before us and stayed after we left, every day we were there - how often was she going?  We joked that she should be Ms. Olympia by now with all the hours put in.  But it is pretty awesome she’s so fit - if you don’t use it, you lose it!

Gym all-stars: legs only girl

Tuesday, April 29th, 2008

While bored at work, I’ll notate a list of people I call ‘Gym All-stars’, otherwise unique people I see often at the gym.

Yesterday while at the gym, I saw Legs Only Girl.  Now, that’s a little of a misnomer, because she does lots of ab and lower back/sides work too.  But that’s definitely her thing: she does only leg exercises, and lots of them.  Lots and lots - about an hours worth!  She’s got some pretty nice legs out of it too, but if her goal is to lean out and show some abs, an all machine workout isn’t going to do it.  I never see her do cardio or freeweights, just piles and piles of extensions and ab work.

I hope she reaches her goal, whatever it may be.  :)

Gear - running shoes

Monday, April 28th, 2008

I am a very picky person when it comes to my gear.  It’s taken a few tries for me to find a running shoe that I feel comfortable with, and I’m happy to say the Asics GT-2110 fits the bill.  It’s strength is that it is an all arounder that doesn’t favor or try to correct for pronation or any other gait abnormalities, so it’s best suited for small or medium runners with a ‘normal’ step.  So give these a look if you have the same needs as I do, I think you’ll be pleased.

A note: try not to wear running shoes to the gym if you are going to be doing standing weight lifting exercises - the gel/air/abzorb cushions in the soles can make balancing more difficult.

Got a workout partner

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

Exciting times, got my girlfriend to sign up to my gym.  I sponsored her, so hopefully this won’t come back to bite me!  We’ll see how much she can be pushed, because I think our goals for her are different.
