Another Milestone Reached!
Ya know I’m not real big on setting personal records and all that garbage. I’ve always said that I’m a bodybuilder not a power lifter so I don’t get to wrapped up in moving huge amounts of weight. I do believe in going heavy but I don’t think I have to set PR’s to validate my strength.
With that being said I wanted to let everyone know that I set a PR Saturday that actually means something to me.
Saturday I met my training partner SusanBeth as I do every week and the plan was to work our legs and shoulders. Well as we were warming up we started talking about PR’s and I told her how I had never been able to get past a 200lb bench press. She said she was sure she could spot me if I wanted to go for a 1 rep max sooooo…just for shitz and giggles I decided to go for it.
Well I warmed up at 135 and then began working my way up. Next…155…noooo problem. 175.…piece of cake! 190 I hit a little hic-up but I was determined so I got right back under the bar and threw it right up. I’m starting to worry a little at this point though. I’ve hit 200 many times but for some reason I’ve never been able to get past that. Guess it was a mental block or something.
So next I decided to go right past 200 and put 205 on the bar. First attempt I went down to far and could only get up half way. DAMN IT! Ok I’m not giving up so with a little encouragement from Susan I grabbed the bar again and BOOM! Right up it went!
Needless to say I was pretty pumped!! Just thought I’d share that with you all.
Till next time…Lift Long and Prosper!

Congrats. Weight still is the measurement of improvement. Without increasing weight there is no increased gain.

Sweet! I use a similar tactic yelling at GJ sometimes to push one more and get her frustrated for that last bit of drive to make it happen. Good deal, man, welcome to the 200lb club!

Grate job dude! I had a similar story one day about 6 years back. I was feeling a little cocky and pumped (Full night of sleep after working 10 to 17 hour shifts for 3 days at a kids home) plus a few effedra tabs washed down with a speed stack efedra drink. And decided to go for some maxes after workout weight feeling real light. Grabed a dude i knew could handle spotting me and went for it!
benchpress
300×1 no problem!
350×1 no problem!
405×1 no problem!
435×1 no problem (Previous max!!!)
Still feeling pretty balsey I threw on another 25lbs and walked off.
I came back after about 5 minuets, like I had been doing and found that the guy had left!!
ARRRRGGGGG!!!!!
O.K I can handle this and found the closest warm body who seemed like he could handle it!
I had him help get it of the bench. Now the other guy knew to help me lower it to my chest so I could explode up..this guy did not get that part(Must have mised the memo!)
I relax a little to get ready to lower it and WAM!!
The thing hits my chest like a Volkswagon full of bricks!
BUT!!
I pushed that thing up like it weighed less than 300..it just flew up!!
Have not beat 450 since that day:(
But that day rocked!
Thank you for causing me to remember that day and congradulations on your equal acomploshment.

Bryan just getting around to congratulate you on your well deserving accomplishment. I like you do not get wrapped up in the numbers, someone asked me recently what my max bench press was I said don’t know and don’t care I’m here for my health.
