The sweet smell of progress

December 18, 2008

Well It seems like I have been doing Rippetoe’s starting strength forever so today I checked my log .
Here’s the short story
I started on 8/4/08 today is 12/18/08  .. holy cow!!!! it’s just a little bit over 4 months a total of 41 workout session..
I have missed a few here and there so my progress is even more astonishing to me..

Starting stats as of 8/4/08
44 years old  5.7" 170lb   BF 16%
Squat - 130
bench - 120
deadlift - 215
Standing overhead press - 70
Power clean - 90
I started deadlifiting 1 week prior to starting strength with a weight of 100lb, I deadlifted every day doing between 18 and 6 set with 4 and 6 reps  I have a thread talking about this experiment
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=109491381

This is hilarious…. form my 3rd workout also my 3rd time squatting LOL

workout B

My stats as of 12/18/08
still 44 yo @ 5.7" I got my height from my mom, she’s 5.4" …  my dad is 6.2"
weight is around 185lbs after 3 months of GOMAD (gallon of milk a day) and a diet of 3000 to 5000 calories a day
current body fat is 18%

Squat - 290
bench - 185
deadlift - 345 hit a PR today
Standing overhead press - 135
Power clean - 125

these are all 5×3 (5 reps 3 sets)
And this is last week squat @255 it was a light day  ,  I am now up to 290 but I ran out of tape and couldn’t tape that session

225 squat

Pretty darn good I think, I am definitely happy with my progress  .

I am not progressing linearly anymore so It’s time to switch to an intermediate programming routine ,
a 5×5 routine or Rippetoe’s Texas method..

Starting strength

October 16, 2008

OK when I have time I will post some stats and share my experience while doing Mark Rippetoe’s starting strength .

To start, I would advise anyone new to lifting or returning to lifting after break to buy the book and do the damn program .. it just plain works
I changed my diet and started eating roughly 4k calories a day including GOMAD (gallon of milk a day) I drank whole milk
and it helps a lot ….
