Sciatica…

…is what I was told today was causing the pain shooting down my leg from my glute to my calf.  It started yesterday when I got home from work.  The pain was so severe each time I bent my right leg or tried to move it that I would almost pass out before it went away.  I had my regularly scheduled visit with the chiropractor today who checked me and said it was a clear sign of sciatica.  He prescribed that I take anti-inflammatory medicine to help bring the swelling down and told me to return on Friday.  I have to take it easy for the next few days to help it some, even though the chiro said the best thing for it is complete bed rest for 10 days!  I told him I was going to try everything before that, I can’t afford to be on bed rest I have a job, my classes that I take at night and my children to care for.  So I took the anti-inflammatory when I got home and have been taking it easy.  So far the pain has gone down a lot and I can move my leg freely without discomfort.  I have to laugh….last week I complained about not seeing the scale go down….I should have kept my mouth shut because you never know how worse it could actually be for you….and now I know!

Do you know what’s causing it? I’ve had issues with it too, related to a herniated disk and also possibly endometriosis. Had to have surgery for both last year and am much better. Continual nerve pain wears on you mentally…hang in there and do what you need to get better! I still can’t do squats and will miss straight-leg deadlifts for the rest of my life, but I want to stay as far away from sciatic pain as possible!!

Been there done that. I had 3 bulging discs in my back causing severe sciatica. I waited to long to do something about it. They had to take 2 discs out June of 2006. A cortisone shot will make the pain go away, but you need to take it easy on the weights. My suggestion would be to just use machines and do low intensity cardio untill you have an MRI to see what’s going on in there. I still have nerve damage in my left leg, ankle, and foot from it..

Aww breenee, Sorry to hear that…I hope it gets better for you real soon…stay positive and do some mental exercises to get you back on track after you get over this short pause. Take care.
