New Year & Newbies
Thursday, December 27th, 2007I am sure I am not the first or the last person to notice that for the last month and a half several new faces started appearing around the gym. Not to mention a lot of college kids home on break. Anyway back to those new faces. Are these people really new to the gym or have they been a member but are those that don’t do anything all year and then try to make themselves fell good by doing work-outs during the holiday season. I should not say much since I just returned back to the gym one year ago. But at least I have been there on a consist basis and will from know until the end of time.
They come in and mill around the gym like lost puppy dogs moving from one piece of equipment to the next. Their faces look like deer in headlights. If you look close you can see the gears turning in their head. Dugh! What was this for again? How did I do that? As much as it is entertaining it is also a major distraction. The gym becomes crowded and becomes hard to get the work-out in compared to getting it in say July or August.
I would love to see a study from all gym’s / fitness clubs the shows the rate of new enrollment into these establishments and the percentage of those individuals who are consist throughout the year working out compared to the people who come the first two months of the year and the last two months of the year. Or maybe just the amount of people using the gym in the first two and last two months compared to the rest of the months. How much does the average monthly use of the establishment drop of? 10, 0, 30%? I think this would be interesting to know. Or here is another one. What is the percentage of those users that use the gym for the first two and last two months that make up the purchases made in those fat burning products?
Like I said I know I am not the first to notice this and definitely will not be the last. To all of those out there that are dedicated to working-out all year round I feel your pain trying to get a good work-out in this time of year.
