Q. How Do I Write A BodyBlog Post (Entry)?
A. Like this:
1) Log in to Bodyspace (http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/) and go to your profile (by clicking on your photo on the grey sidebar (right-hand column at the top).
2) Go to your blog by clicking on the “BodyBlog” link underneath your profile pic (on the left-hand side).
3) Find the “[YourName]’s Admin Area” section at the top, just under your blog’s main title area (in the center column).
4) Click on the “Write Post” link, then type away to your heart’s content.
5) Click “Save” when you’re finished. (Either one - “Save and Continue Editing,” or “Save and Exit”).
6) Click on “View my BodyBlog” near the top to view your changes.
Q. Can I Change My Forum/BodySpace Username?
A. Yes!
Please email us at “support@bodybuilding.com” from the email account on file, and give us your top 3 choices (in case one or more are already taken), and also explain why you want it changed. You can also contact Customer Service via telephone and/or chat, as well:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/email.htm
When you change usernames, it changes your displayed name on your profile and the name you use to log in, but it does not change your URL (profile address), your name in the photo gallery on existing photos, or your title on your blog (although you can change it anytime you want to in your blog settings).
Q. Can I Hide My BodySpace Profile?
A. Yes. Please email us at “support@bodybuilding.com” to have your profile deactivated. This will deactivate your BodySpace profile without affecting your forum/gallery/cart accounts. In other words, you’ll still be able to post on the forum and order from our store without having a BodySpace profile. You can also contact Customer Service via telephone and/or chat, as well:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/email.htm
Please note: this will not delete your forum threads/posts. Forum threads and posts are rarely (if ever) deleted. Also, if you want your gallery photos to disappear, you’ll need to remove them yourself first.
Q. Why Can’t I Get Activated?
A. Sometimes people have noticed some issues with activating their accounts, and also with changing their passwords. As it turns out, our emails are being blocked by a few ISPs as spam. We are working with these and other ISPs to have them unblock emails from us to you.
First, please try going to this page:
http://my.bodybuilding.com/register.php?a=ver&refsite=bodyspace
to have your activate codes resent to you.
If you still can’t activate your forum/BodySpace account or need to have your password “reset” (changed or recovered), please email us directly, and we’ll handle this for you until we can get these automated tools fixed. You can also contact Customer Service via telephone and/or chat, as well:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/email.htm
Q. Why Is My URL “Slug” Different From My Username?
A. The “slug” (the unique part of your BodySpace URL) might be different from your BodySpace username if it contained special/unusual characters which needed to be removed in order to prevent problems with BodySpace and/or your BodyBlog.
Things like spaces, dollar signs, percent signs, various other punctuations, etc. are all filtered out when your BodySpace profile is created. Then, your slug is compared against the database to make sure it’s unique. If it’s not, a three-digit random number is appended, and then it’s recompared. If it’s still not unique, a different three-digit random number is used. This process can happen up to 3 times, in order to make sure your slug (and therefore your URL) is unique.
If you absolutely hate your slug, your slug can be changed. Email us at “support@bodybuilding.com” to have this changed. You can also contact Customer Service via telephone and/or chat, as well:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/email.htm
Q. I Uploaded 3 Profile Pics, But Only 1 Is Showing. Other People Have 3. What Am I Doing Wrong?
A. There are actually 2 relevant photo sections. The main profile pic (the big one) only shows one, despite having three uploaded. The gallery thumbnail section, however, lets you have an additional 2 smaller images displayed right beneath the profile pic.
Reupload your photos into the gallery section (”Manage Your Personal Photo Gallery”), and then you have the option of having them displayed on your BodySpace profile.
Q. Can I embed Video In My BodyBlog Like You Guys Do?
A. Yes! For security reasons, however, we’ve turned off support for the embed and script tags used in the code some sites provide for embedding. We have, however, built an interface that allows you to include YouTube videos in your BodyBlog securely. Click here for instructions on YouTube that you want to use. Copy that URL (either from the browser address bar, or the URL box - see image):

and paste it into the BodySpace video form (see image):

It’s that easy! =)
Q. Can I Use Video From Other Sites (Besides YouTube) On My Profile?
A. Nope (not yet, anyway). If you have video elsewhere (MySpace, Google Video, DailyMotion, Brightcove, etc.), you’ll first need to upload them to YouTube, then add them to your profile from there. Yes, it’s an extra step, but we chose YouTube for many reasons (too numerous to list here!)
Q. Can I Delete A Comment That I Left For Someone Else?
A. No, not at this time. Only the person who received the comment can delete it. (In other words, double-check your spelling before submitting!)
Q. I Have Photos In My Blog That Are Too Wide! How Can I Fix Them?
A. This is only a problem in IE6. (This doesn’t happen in IE7 or Firefox.) Add this bit of code:
width="395"
inside the “img” tag, something like this:
<img src="http://your_image_address.com/photo.jpg" alt="" width="395" />
Q. How Do I Delete A BodyBlog Draft Post (Which Appears At The Top Of The Manage Page, Not Below)?
A. You have to click on it to edit it, then scroll down to the bottom of the page, and there’s a “Delete” button on the left-hand side.
Q. Why Does It Say I Don’t Have Permission To Use My Photo Gallery?
A. Because you forgot to confirm your email address after registration. An email was sent out to you which contained a link that needs to be clicked upon to confirm your email address. Doing so grants you access to the photo post. If you didn’t see the confirmation email, check in your junk mail folder, and if you still don’t have it, please click on this link to have your confirmation email sent out again:
http://my.bodybuilding.com/register.php?a=ver
Q. Why Aren’t My Progress Pics Displaying?
A. There are two primary reasons this happens to some people. First, if you only have one photo, none will display, since the whole point of this module is to show progress - you need two pics, a “before” and an “after” to effectively do this.
Secondly, the progress pics are date sensitive, which means that the dates must be different. If they’re the same, they won’t display. Once again, it’s kind of hard to show progress when the pics were taken on the same date.
Q. What Is The Definition Of Spam?
A. In order for a comment to be considered “spam,” it must be #1) unsolicited, and #2) trying to sell a commercial product. If someone is just leaving a ton of comments to get into the “Most Comments Left” spot, that’s actually okay. The only time someone is technically “spamming” BodySpace is when they’re trying to make a buck - which is not allowed.
Q. Where Can I Leave Feedback/Report Problems?
A. You can leave BodySpace/BodyBlog feedback here:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/help/feedback?type=feedback
or email us at “support@bodybuilding.com“. You can also contact Customer Service via telephone and/or chat, as well:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/email.htm
Q. What Is This “Token” Error Message For?
A. See this blog post about this mysterious topic.
Q. My Photos Are Too Big To Upload! How Small Need They Be?
A. Here are our current maximums:
BodySpace Profile Pic - 2 MB or smaller.
Photo Galleries - 1000 KB or smaller; 1200×1200 pixels or smaller.
Progress Pics - 2 MB or smaller.
Pics In Forum Posts - 1000×1000 pixels or smaller.
Blog Image Uploads - 2 MB or smaller.
Q. How/Where Can I Make My Digital Camera Photos Smaller?
A. Try using one of these third-party websites: Resize2Mail.com, Resizr.com, Resize.it, or PhotoSize.com.
Alternatively, if you are using Windows XP, you can do this right on your local computer. Here’s how:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/learnmore/tips/eschelman2.mspx
Q. How/Where Can I Turn My BMPs/GIFs/PNGs Into JPEGs?
A. Try using this third-party website: http://www.zamzar.com/
Q. How Do I Stop Spam In My Blog Comments?
A. You have full control of your blog comments. Go into your “Manage Blog” area, click on “Manage”, then click on the “Comments” tab, and finally click the “Change Commenting Options Here” link. To read more about the various options available, click here.
The recommended spam setting is to hold for moderation any comment that contains more than 2 links, don’t require the user to enter their email address, and to disallow trackbacks (uncheck that box).
Q. How Do I Delete That First “Welcome” Blog Post?
A. Do this:
1) From your blog main page, Click on “Manage Blog” underneath your big header.
2) Click on the “Manage” link.
3) You should be on a screen for managing your posts. “Welcome!” will be the last entry. There is a link on the right of that line (3 links, actually — one for Edit, one for View, and one for Delete.)
4) Click on Delete.
Q. How Do I Add Photos Into My Blog?
A. Images are simple. You can do images in 2 ways - the easy way, and the not-so-easy way.
If the image is already on the web (you have the URL), just use the “img” button on the toolbar (note: VB code is not supported). Alternatively, if you know HTML, you can switch the blog editor to HTML mode and use regular HTML code to include your images (using regular <img /> tags).
If the image isn’t already on the web, you can use the handy file uploader. After the image is uploaded, you’ll see a thumbnail (tiny version) in the upload area. You need to click on the thumbnail to see the code options. One of them is “use original file” or “use thumbnail.” Click on “using thumbnail” and it’ll change to “using original.” (Choose “using original.”) Then click on “Send to editor.”
Please note that all images will be automatically resized to fit the constraints of the blog (a maximum width of 395 pixels [389 in group blogs]), even if it’s a huge pic (within reason). This is done automatically (you don’t need to resize them first yourself).
Q. Is There A List Of Known Issues That I Can Peruse?
A. Why, yes - thanks for asking! Here ya go:
http://blog.bodybuilding.com/BodySpaceAdmin/known-issues/
Q. Is It Okay For Me To Post Nude Photos On BodySpace?
A. Ummm, no. Please review our BodySpace Photo Guidelines.
Q. How Can I Find My Friends On BodySpace?
A. There are several easy ways to find people on BodySpace:
1) This is a list of new profile photos, which often also indicates new profiles:
http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/activity.php?section=profilepics
2) The quick browse on the main page is useful if you know your friend’s gender and age:
http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/
3) The member listing can be used to search for names or parts of names, and filter out inactive users:
http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/members.php?active=1
4) The advanced search can be used to search on any number of criteria, including location, age, weight, height, supplements they’re taking, etc.:
http://bodyspace.bodybuilding.com/search.php
5) The site search at the top of every page:
is a free-text way to search for certain words or phrases that might be on a friend’s profile or in their blog.
Q. Why does my photo show up in Firefox but not IE7?
A. Because you used a GIF for a photo instead of a JPG. Please convert the photo into JPG, then reupload. (JPG’s are for color photos with millions of colors, and GIF’s are for simple 256-color graphics, logos, etc.) In addition, please note that PNG images, while technically supported, currently cause problems with our automated resizing libraries, so in essence, the PNG format is NOT currently supported on BodySpace. Thus, please always use JPG for photographs in all cases.
If you need help doing this, please see the “How/Where Can I Turn My BMPs/GIFs/PNGs Into JPEGs?” question (above).
Q. Why does my photo show up in Photoshop but not on the web?
A. Because your JPG is set as CMYK (print mode) instead of RGB (onscreen mode). Change modes in Photoshop from CMYK to RGB, then resave and reupload your images.
Q. How do I make clickable links in my blog?
A. Like this:
1) Type in some text.
2) Highlight it.
3) Click the “link” button (either says ‘link’ or shows a chain symbol)
4) If you get a warning about popups being blocked by your browser (or scripted windows), click the ‘allow popups from this site’ (or allow scripted windows) message. (If this happens, you’ll then need to click the link button again afterward.)
5) In the popup box, paste in or type in the URL you’re linking to, then hit ‘insert’ or ’save’.
The result should be a clickable link (when you save your post).
Q. Are BodyBlogs compatible with the Opera/Safari web browsers?
A. No, unfortunately. Please use either Firefox or Internet Explorer. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Q. Do the Forums have a FAQ?
A. Yes, here:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/faq.php
Q. Where are the Forum rules posted?
A. Here, for starters:
http://forum.bodybuilding.com/showthread.php?t=113610191
In addition, each particular forum (sub-section) may have additional, more specific rules and/or usage guidelines & tips marked as “stickies” at the top of it’s main page. If you’re going to post in a particular forum, please take a few moments and get familiar with said rules.
Q. Why don’t I show up in searches?
A. Google crawls BodySpace via links. Links on BodySpace are made through comments and friends. If you don’t have any friends and haven’t left any comments, you won’t ever be found… So, if you want to be found, start participating more!
Q. What does “stalking” mean?
A. On BodySpace, it’s just a funny (not serious) term for when you add a friend, but they haven’t (yet) added you in return.
You show up in their “fan club”, and they show up in your “stalking” list. When both of you add each other, then you both show up in each other’s “mutual friends” list.
Q. Where can I find the Terms Of Use, Privacy Policy & COPPA info?
A. Here:
Terms of Use:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/disclaim.htm
Privacy Policy:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/disclaim.htm#privacy
COPPA info:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/disclaim.htm#COPPA
Q. Why didn’t I get 500 BodyPoints for starting my blog?
A. If you didn’t receive BodyPoints for starting your BodySpace profile and/or for activating your BodyBlog, please email us, and we’ll credit you. You can also contact Customer Service via telephone and/or chat, as well:
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/email.htm
Q. Why aren’t my uploaded images showing up in my blog?
A. For possibly two reasons: the image filenames contain spaces. Rename the files, removing all spaces (use hyphens or underscores instead, if desired), then reupload. If that’s not the issue, then you uploaded the images, but didn’t “send them to the editor.” Click here for detailed instructions on how to upload images and include them in your blog.
Q. How do I take a “screenshot” for reporting problems?
A. Follow the simple instructions found here:
http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108297
Q. How do I opt-out of the BodyBlog email reminders?
A. Click here:
http://blog.bodybuilding.com/optout.php?opt_out_of=email_remindToBlog
Q. Why is my timezone off?
A. There are two places to adjust timezone settings. One is in your forum control panel (not the BodySpace control panel), and the other is in your BodyBlog admin area. Try adjusting those 2 settings, and then log out and log back in again to see if your times are fixed. =)
UPDATE: the BodyBlog timezone setting is not working. This will be fixed soon.
Q. Why aren’t I allowed some things in my forum signature?
A. Those are global settings that apply to everyone, even admins and mods. They’re set for security reasons and abuse prevention mainly, as well as for aesthetic reasons, as well. The following Signature Permissions options (found in your Forum CP) are not allowed:
Allow BB Code: No
Allow HTML: No
Allow Smilies: No
Can Upload Images for Signature: No
Can Upload Animated GIF for Signature: No
Q. How can I reset my Bodybuilders.com freemail account password?
A. http://freemail.bodybuilders.com/email/scripts/hints.pl?bounce=0
Q. Where can I change my BodySpace password and email address?
A. http://my.bodybuilding.com/profile.php?do=editprofile&refsite=my
Q. Can I create a BodySpace profile for my company/pet/club, etc?
A. No, sorry - BodySpace is for real individuals pursuing their personal fitness goals. Most of what is provided on BodySpace is not applicable to groups, companies, clubs, etc. Unlike MySpace, BodySpace does not allow advertising.
Q. I have more hits than everyone on the main page, so why aren’t I listed?
A. You haven’t selected either “male” or “female” in your control panel. The “Top Profiles (Last 24 Hours) - Men” only pulls from the list those who have specified themselves as “male”, and the same goes for the women.
Q. Why can I go to others’ profiles, but I still can’t get to my own (it says there are errors/maintenence…)?
A. This is fixed, but you need to do a “hard refresh” (simultaneously press CTRL+F5, or CTRL+R in your browser) to refresh your computer with the latest version from our site.
Q. I just wrote a new blog post and now my layout is hosed in IE. What gives?
A. You included double quotes (” “) in the title field. Change them to single quotes (’ ‘), then resave, and the problem will be fixed.
Q. Can you tell me how to delete pictures out of my gallery?
A. Click on the photo you want to delete, then click the “edit photo” link. Once there, you have the option to remove the photo by checking the checkbox, then hitting the submit button.
Q. Are people allowed to leave me low ratings in the photo gallery?
A. Yes, within reason. A long time ago, we had a rash of low ratings without comments from a single Brazilian troublemaker. He was leaving ratings of one or two on hundreds of women’s photos without any reason. This was deemed abuse.
Comments, however, are not required when leaving a rating, and hence cannot be used “against” someone who leaves a rating on your photo. Generally speaking, anything above a 3 or 4 is deemed “honest” - so if you receive a “7″, don’t be offended - that might just be someone’s honest viewpoint. That being said, if someone wants to leave some constructive criticism, it would be best to do so with an accompanying comment. That’s just good manners.
