Face the FEAR (For Every Ameuteur Relief)

Thursday, July 31st, 2008

http://www.chasthornhill.com/AirSketch.html

I am one of those people that never get things right first time. To be honest I can make a tit of it second time as well. As of late I just dont care. I am willing to give anything a go.

Let me clarify somewhat. When I first joined the gym I almost sneaked around my program. I was afraid to try different machines, how I would look if I was not lifting an acceptable amount of weights or doing a certain amount of reps. Acceptable to who??

So the last few weeks at the gym I have decided to go at everything that I have wanted to and face the fear! I was using the cable machine this morning. Now that’s something I really had shyed away from. I had pictured myself getting tangled up like an unwilling bondage victim in the cables. I quiet enjoyed using it when I got the hang of it and get your mind out of the gutter, it was purely excercise that I was using it for.

The other thing I copped is any time a newbie joins the gym, the majority of people want to see them do well and embrace things. Sure there are the usual few clowns who try and intimidate, but life aint ideal, so for every amateur out there, there is relief, give that machine or excercise a go you have always put off. You’ll wonder why you ever did in the first place.

More Reps, Less Cardio, Less Posing, Shoulder to the Wheel!

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

A fellow BB member helped me out no end by suggesting the above. It has become my mantra in the last few weeks and as such I seem to be making gains, where beforehand I had the physique of a cast member of return of the nerds. I had been plugging away at the same program for roughly a year and it may be obvious but if things don’t change they stay the same.

No doubt other people working would sigh ground hog day as I went through the same program again and again.  Now I am trying to work smarter not longer. Cardio that I do is intensive as opposed to prolonged.

The last month or so I have noticed a difference, in that I feel physically much stronger and am progressively moving up the weights in exercises. I squatted 80 lbs yesterday repeatedly and I felt fantastic about that. I am conscious that this cannot be the peak that I have to strive to constantly do more and that is my intention. It is now time that I step things up a notch. I will keep you posted.

Sex fruit and Number 16 bus shelter

Saturday, July 26th, 2008

http://lynnbecker.com/repeat/calatravachicago/calatravapersonsofinterest.htm

The following is a story I came across while surfing and it cracked me up!

A JUDGE in New Zealand has deplored the use of unusual children’s names after he made a nine-year-old girl called Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii a ward of court so her unfortunate moniker could be changed at her request.

Some of the rather creative names allowed by New Zealand registration officials and criticised by Judge Rob Murfitt include Number 16 Bus Shelter and Midnight Chardonnay. The judge described as “tragic” the decision to register one child under the name Violence.

The parents of twins were permitted to name their offspring Benson and Hedges, after the cigarette brand.

Among the names rejected by registration officials were Fish and Chips, Yeah Detroit, Stallion, Twisty Poi, Keenan Got Lucy and Sex Fruit. One mother even attempted to use SMS language for her daughter’s name.

In that case, the girl was initially called O.crnia, but the name was changed to Oceania during negotiations over a parenting order.

The judge listed the outlandish names in his written ruling on a custody battle over Talula Does The Hula From Hawaii, who lived with her family on New Zealand’s North Island.

A lawyer told the court the girl was so embarrassed by her name, she did not even tell her friends.

She said her name was “K” because she feared being “mocked and teased”, the lawyer added.

Judge Murfitt said such names risked exposing children to ridicule.

“The court is profoundly concerned about the very poor judgment which this child’s parents have shown in choosing this name,” he wrote. “It makes a fool of the child and sets her up with a social disability and handicap, unnecessarily.”

The court was told the girl fully understood the absurdity of her name, unlike her parents who had apparently not considered the implications of their unusual choice.

The judge ordered that the court take custody of the girl until her name could be formally changed. The ruling was issued in February but only came to light in law reports made public this week. The girl has since changed her name, but it has not been disclosed in order to protect her privacy.

Registrar Brian Clarke said New Zealand law prohibits names that would offend a reasonable person, that consist of more than 100 characters or that include titles, military rank, punctuation or numerals.

Impressionable?

This is no Carrie Fisher article. Your damn right I am impressionable. I am 29 years of age and still find that people can sway how I do things. Just past the stick my hand in the fire sort of stage. Yes you may well laugh out loud. Always want to be primetime. Mix that in with a competitive, explosive and very addictive personality. Sounds like a story for a slippery slope.

It is the opposite. This is my time to shine. Only thing stopping me posting photos is my camera has broken. That is another post all together. As such I’m using this as a time to go for it. My workout’s are reflected in my desire and want to succeed at everything I do. Progressing, enjoying, eating it all up. Feel like I’m having the good life. Morning in the gym, lifting hard, and then lifting hard again. Drive to work, everyone else zombies. Cant even say good morning to you. GOOD MORNING!! What a nice thing to say to someone. Feeling good and people look at you like "dont you be disrupting my bad morning". Damn right I will, spreading some goodness. It all stems from this working out.

My Gravel Pit

Saturday, July 5th, 2008

 http://www.dontlaughat.us/

As in something I like and at the moment nothing beats working out and music. I admittedly have an extremely wide range of taste in music, but if there is one thing that helps me push and get that extra rep it is music.

I am also concious that I have been having a whine on my blog of late and fellow BB members have pushed me so in my way of giving back hopefully I will make you laugh with the following couple of dublin tales. We are a people to our own, extremely patriotic, we are dubs first, Irish second.

In work during the week a colleague was asked for a net figure. Quick as a flash he replied……Who is she, does she work in accounts!

At hearing the weight of a new born baby another colleague responded, Jaysus that’s big for a baby, small for a turkey though!

As I lent around on my office chair to speak to a colleague who did n’t like what I was saying they told me to go swivel!

As dubs we can curse with the best of them, but prefer to call people clowns and donkey boy! Try it when someone upsets you, it realy cuts!

A journey not a destination!!

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Woody Woodpecker, from the opening title sequence for the 1951 short Puny Express.

A journey not a destination. I think I have finally got my mind around that and am now willing to embrace it! The penny drops so to speak but at 29 I’m glad it did not take any longer.

As I have been saying the last while things had not been going too well an become a bit of a slog for some unknown reason and a fellow bb member advised me to take a couple of rest days. I was sceptical if only for the fear that the rest day would turn into one long vacation and that’s not what I am hoping to achieve. So I took the weekend off and yesterday and hit the gym at six this morning with renewed passion and a zest for it and I have to say I have not enjoyed such a session in quite a while. It was almost like I have been sleeping in a tent for the past month and today I got to try out a mattress as advertised on the shopping channel (with J LO in it – couldn’t resist). Never will I underestimate the power of rest days on my body and mind again.

It is almost like I am starting again and getting to achieve goals and I have to remember that this is a journey not a destination. I’m now planning to set some new goals and update the old progress pictures so as to keep my focused on what I need to achieve.
