So it’s been a month now since I’ve been hitting the gym. Can’t say that I haven’t had my share of involuntary obstacles try to get in my way either. From over training to non gym related injury and illness, it’s all been thrown at me. I must say though that I haven’t given up. I’m gonna make this happen for me. I think the reason I’ve failed in the past is because I was doing it for other people. You know, "I’ll go the gym with my buddy and we’ll both progress together." Then, when the buddy starts to flake, you use it as an excuse not to go that day either. Days become weeks, weeks become months, and so on. If I miss now, it’s all on me and that’s just the way I like it because I don’t think there’s anybody in the world who’s more critical of all of my faults than me. So here’s to me completing my first 22 workout routines. Looking forward to the next 50 and the results that will accompany them.

So apparently, it takes about four days for over trained legs to heal; or at least my over trained legs. Good to know now so if it ever happens again I’ll know how to train around it. Hit the gym today and did Workout #1 by Arnold again. Didn’t progress too much as far as adding weight but then again I didn’t expect too much in gains since I only worked out each body part once last week and then took six days off. We’ll see how I do this week with a bit of consistency under my belt. I think I’m going to skip Arnold’s ab workout since it only says "crunches" with no specifics and instead, do the Power 90 Ab Ripper jobby that I bought a while back. It’s actually a full home workout, but I just want the ab routine for now. I figure I’ll get the routine down at home over my vacation and take it to the gym once I’m secure with it. Probably should start that today too since I want my abs to progress with the rest of my body. I kinda work them indirectly with other exercises but still. You know how it is.

Man, I really overtrained my legs this week. Hadn’t done any leg exercises in about 5 years and went to the gym on Wednesday and hit them as hard as I could. Guess I shouldn’t have done that. I’m supposed to do another leg workout tomorrow and so far not being able to walk properly or even bend over has cause me to miss 2 gym days for body parts that have actually recovered. I’m a little annoyed with myself right now, but it’s all a learning process. It’s only the first week. I just hope that my legs are functional again by the time the next leg routine rolls around.

So I started doing Arnold Schwarzenegger’s beginner weight training routine on the 15th. I’m supposed to go 6 days and then have Sunday off, but I found out just how out of shape I was after I did the first 3 days. Legs are gonna need a lot of training as I wasn’t even able to complete that whole workout yesterday. This morning I was in varying degrees of soreness and I felt like I just needed to take today to recuperate before I hit the gym hard again. Also, it’s almost Christmas and the gym is gonna basically force me to take this day off next week as well since they’ll be closed so it kinda works out. I’m feeling pretty good about my decision today and I think I’ll see massive improvements in how I perform this routine over the next couple of weeks. Then, just as I’m getting used to it, it’ll be time to change over to a whole new routine.
